Dec 20 2010British ISP's To Block Pr0n Sites As 'Default'?

Seen here dozing off into his newspaper after a long afternoon of browsing nudie shows on Live Jasmine (pay me) at his local Apple store, an old British man may no longer be able to get his pr0n fix at home without first contacting his ISP and requesting access to adult sites. LISTEN YOU YOU NAMBIE PAMBIES, I WANT THEM AND I WANT THEM NOW -- MY HEART COULD GO ANY SE...
...
...
...Haha, I'm still here. But seriously, cut the boob tubes back on already -- Gramps just took a handful of the blue and I'm already feelin' it. Literally -- while I talk to you.
In a move that smacks of the draconian Internet laws in place in countries like Australia, the UK government has plans to ask ISPs to block all pornography from home Internet connections by default, it's reported today. Under the plan, customers would have to ask the ISP for access to pornography.
The Sunday Times reports that the UK's largest ISPs will be called to a meeting next month to discuss the idea, which is being presented as a way of stopping children from accessing porn.
Not knowing that blonde Slythrin twink ruled Australia's internet aside (you should've elected a Hufflepuff!), this sounds like a pretty crappy idea. Sure you can take the internet out of pr0n, but can you really take pr0n out of the internet? You can't -- it's what it was invented for. *high-five, Al!*

Thanks to Bender, who doesn't need the internet, only booze. Lucky! I need both.

That's lame, most people don't even have porn on their pc's anymore because it's so easy to stream. the UK is fighting porn access progression. Until now, it's only become easier and easier. Thanks a lot you cheese-eating surrender monkeys

At least we still have literotica! Fangirls need not worry; LJ and FF.net are not considered "pron sites."
5. Watch-TB 303 - December 20, 2010 7:10 PM
easy fix, just use a proxy site to get around the block, no worries.
6. Rob - December 20, 2010 7:16 PM
If this is a "protect the children", rather than making it the default:
"Do you have any children under 18" - Yes - block by default. No, don't block.
7. WillC - December 20, 2010 7:18 PM
While I'm probably gunna get flamed for this:
I PERSONALLY believe that there should be an opt OUT option. I think that rather than having an ISP block it by default, I should have the right to call them up and tell them to block it. I don't want my government telling me that I can't see that hot asian banging that dinosaur. I will join the robots if they tried that crazy crap.
Make the PEOPLE actually be grownups and do the work. Instead we, as a society, are coddling our retards to the point that they are procreating faster than we can abort. (and heaven forbid the Republican's win THAT war)

Australia doesn't have any laws in place regarding filtering - It has been proposed for a long time now, but is not in place.
Nice research thenextweb.com ;)
10. j - December 20, 2010 7:40 PM
Don't worry everyone! Many ISPs, lawyers, & sensible citizens have already told the government to GTFO.
They said it'd be technically too difficult and a short step to government censorship of the entire web, also that concerned mothers should simply turn off the PC.
11. Loki - December 20, 2010 7:52 PM
@ 7. Why would you get flamed for that? It's true. Lol
Thank god I don't live there!
12. Omarzuqo - December 20, 2010 7:55 PM
LOL. Removing Pr0n from the Internet. That'd be like dehydrating water.
13. thedwarfer - December 20, 2010 7:59 PM
Mobile providers already do this kind of thing, I had to call orange to remove the block because the pirate bay was included, it was suspiciously classified as an 'adult' site. The MAFIAA have tried to lump file-sharing in with pron before, and I'd bet my left nut they are at least partially responsible in this case.
14. JJtoob - December 20, 2010 8:12 PM
Well the pr0n industry isn't the only one that will suffer, all those services that block sites for your children will be rendered useless...But hey, all you'd need to do is call your ISP and tell them you want your adult entertainment. It isn't banned, just restricted. Still, I agree that it should be an option and not the default.
15. meowskywalker - December 20, 2010 8:49 PM
If I were a 14 year old boy, I would be pissed. As a grown man, I don't give a shit. Maybe it's a stupid law, but I have no issue calling my isp and requesting it. So it would affect me.
16. Mark Hearn - December 20, 2010 9:02 PM
while I visit this site everyday, I rarely comment.
OMG..this is so stupid!!!
I people weren't using the internet and videogames to babysit thier children this issue would not even be an issue! GAH!! RAGE!!!
17. Ponkur - December 20, 2010 10:10 PM
FINALLY!!
My porno addiction is getting out of control.
18. DH - December 20, 2010 11:18 PM
@7 no man, you're spot on.
this is completely backwards. just have it so you can call and ASK for it to be blocked.
better yet, PARENTS, LEARN TO USE YOUR INTERWEBS BROWSER'S PARENTAL PROTECTION. SHIT EVEN WINDOWS COMES WITH SOME PARENTAL CONTROLS, LET'S UHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH IUNNO, USE THEM?!
so much hassle for something so easily remedied without blacklists, blocking, etc.
19. Nicktendo88 - December 20, 2010 11:26 PM
Did G.W. reference a blend of the GEICO commercial and a J.G. Wetnworth commercial?? Hooray for annoying ads!
"We sailed away on a weenturs day!"
20. Ed - December 21, 2010 12:22 AM
Lol the number to call to activate the pr0n will be ringing off the hook for months. "Experiencing high call volume, estimated wait time is approximately 32 days."
@6/7 Those are such simple and elegant compromises that no government would ever consider them.
21. jaime - December 21, 2010 12:38 AM
FUCK YOU, ISP's! why you gotta force some awkward conversations on the british boys?
22. ciao - December 21, 2010 1:39 AM
P0rn is actually good, it helps the tissue and lotion production companies. ;D
23. gaileo - December 21, 2010 2:36 AM
This is really dumb because proxys will let you go to see pr0n
so what's the point, unless the goverment bans proxy websites, but, i dont know if they can do that or not, and they are not that smart,
also, I can see websites starting to name their pron stuff like "tea party with Grandma" only to have a video of a woman with two pen!ses inside her, double pe netration style,
or I could see sites with names like Typographyforall.com and is really a black and white pron site
24. CheeseOnToast - December 21, 2010 4:02 AM
It shouldn't be up to the ISPs to block pr0n, it's that's the parent's responsibilty, surely?
25. Cakeflourz - December 21, 2010 4:03 AM
@12:Omarzuqo
ROFL!!! Best comment evah!
26. osiversen - December 21, 2010 6:15 AM
ISP need to block political parties too
27. Jonathan - December 21, 2010 9:08 AM
In America they're setting up a similar type of system, only instead of porn, we'll have to call our ISP in order to have them grant us access to the Wikileaks server.
Unfortunately, doing so doesn't actually take down the block for the site; instead, we just get a buttload of FBI agents breaking down our door with a warrant.
28. Not an idiot - December 21, 2010 10:00 AM
Notice that both articles says "asked" to block porn sites?
Result:
Q: Can you block porn please Mr.ISP owner?
A: Errr, na!
In other words, its not going to happen until it is made the law.

31. CalebJ - December 21, 2010 11:08 AM
Meh. At least they can request to unblock them. They only ISP I could get for DSL where I used to live automatically blocked Adult sites, proxy sites, and sites with the word "fuck" in them. No joke. I got pretty fucking good at surfing behind layers of proxies because of it. And you couldn't request them to unblock something unless it was blocked by 'mistake' like when they blocked failblog.org.
Also, for a while they auto-filtered google. I learned this when I was doing a research paper on Joseph Mengle and his twin experiments, and googled "Joseph Mengle Nazi experiments" and the word/every website that contained 'Nazi' was blocked.
The irony: The owner of the company has a confirmed mistress.

This could be a prolem for me...
1) I like in the UK
2) I love my pr0n
3) I dont want to have to call up someone just so I can watch some pr0n...
34. Bob - December 21, 2010 2:25 PM
Am I the only one who still gets his prOn via torrents? I don't see how this would change anything. Also having to burn files to DVD and hide them in their room teaches kids a valuable lesson about responsibility...
35. Anonymoose - December 21, 2010 3:29 PM
Do we have to go out and get laid now??!!
I have a feeling this is only going to lead to embarrassing events for girlfriends and ex-girlfriends when the guys want to have sex by themselves but still want the pleasure of a picture of a naked girl.
It's times like these I wish I had obscure fetishes that they wouldn't ban, like that dude with the cars fetish.
36. Axle - December 21, 2010 4:34 PM
why arn't parents monitoring little kids already? and what little kids search for that? and i wonder if parents even realise that they can block it themselves.
37. Bambi - December 21, 2010 8:28 PM
Seriously!? I'm not calling up some dude just to have an awkward conversation regarding unblocking my porn that will inevitably result in me crying and screaming "LADIES LIKE PORN TOO" down the phone.
