Sep 30 2010Whoo, Minecraft Mania!: Guy Building Fully Functional Computer Inside The Game

Haha, who just shaved their dog's genitals and gave him a bath in-between posts? This guy! Taking a clue from the guy who built a fully functional calculator in Little Big Planet, Youtube user theinternetftw is in the process of building an entire 16-bit computer in Minecraft. *mind explodes, sending erotic memories of past dino lovers everywhere*
This is the first part of a planned 16-bit computer that will run entirely in minecraft.
The design was drawn up in an awesome program called Redstone Simulator (does what it says on the tin), which was written by Baezon on the Minecraft ForumsMCEdit was used to help clear off space and import the design into minecraft. Hours of experimenting with prototypes, modifications to the design, and debugging took place in the game itself, however.
This project is far from over. Memory, here I come...
Impressive! What can't spending endless hours toiling away in Minecraft build? Haha, besides meaningful relationships. Which -- who needs 'em anyway? (I'm building a dino-park)
Hit the jump for a video of the computer in action.

Thanks to Von, TheTrav, Mike and Chen, who were going to build a fully functional sandwich maker in Minecraft before realizing that's what Subway is for.

Would you like BRAND NAME shoes at discount prices? NIKE, ADDIDAS, $PORT, KDAWG, and DINGALING? So, would I. But I can't afford 'em. UNLESS! There was a website, perhaps that had these incredible shoes at INCREDIBLE prices? FREE shipping with orders above absolute ZERO? ALL CREDIT CARD #'s PINS AND SECURITY CODES ACCEPTED? No, my friends, this is not a wishful dream. Such a place like that does EXIST! WHERE IS THIS INCREDIBLE WEBSITE, YOU ASK? Sorry, I can't tell you. I made a promise not to. I'm just here to tell you, keep looking, because it's out there. INCREDIBLE SHOES AT DISCOUNT PRICES AND ZERO CREDIT CHECK! Think about it.

@7 if it's a problem, support another site instead of bitching on this one.

It's extremely impressive that he was able to build a functional processor within a game system that offers no custom scripting language (akin to LBP) and is really meant for constructing castles for the purposes of defending against zombies.
That being said, a CPU that takes almost 10 minutes to calculate 1+2=3 is pretty much a failure in terms of logistical applications. You'd be better off giving a pencil and paper to a monkey on ritalin and shouting numbers at it.
14. Mecha-Hitler - September 30, 2010 3:29 PM
So how much did they pay you to advertise this game GW?
15. DH - September 30, 2010 3:32 PM

We are now through the looking glass, it won't be long now until minecraft is creating it's own computers and then robots who make games that design more robots. Yep, it's the end of the world.

@13 It only took a couple seconds. As he demonstrated at the very end when adding two large numbers, the result was already displayed when he walked to the output. He had to negate the result from where he was standing to show the cascading effect on the output. The rest of the time he was just giving everyone a tour of the bus and various gates.

26. VCobra - September 30, 2010 9:39 PM
Scary stuff..... but I don't know what's scarier.
The fact that this is possible OR the fact that all the minecraft videos I've seen sound like they're all from guys living in the same house.
27. Joebakb - September 30, 2010 10:38 PM
I half expected this guy to ask for his stapler.

a quarter way through this video and i wanted to kill myself.
31. Lulz - October 3, 2010 9:28 PM
This guy sounds like a loser. No offense to him, but really, it sounds like a voice throw you would do if you wanted to be a nerd >.< Of course, he's a nerd anyways, so I suppose it's fine.
32. funka - October 4, 2010 7:43 PM
Im with Lulz on this one, as soon as I started the video I immediately cracked up.
Though I think he is more a geek then a nerd.
He has so much time on his hands because he is homeschooled

LOL i think minecraft starts to look like real life,
if we can build a computer like this now, maybe we can make really awesome computers in the future, like a giant screen so far away the torches are making a picture...
(i hope minecraft gets toasters >_< i like toast!)
