May 12 2010It's About Time: 3-D Glasses That Look Cool

cool-3d-glasses.jpg

But not really. I'd actually feel cooler wearing Geordi La Forge glasses because at least then people would think they're x-ray specs when I'm staring at their crotch and laughing. Now they just think I'm a creep.

Look3D is one of a handful of companies readying "designer" 3D glasses, with a wide variety of frames, colors and prescription styles available. Some are "RealD certified" and quite a few look quite wearable. The company isn't exactly treading unexplored ground, but if you scoff at Ray Ban or Gucci prices, it's an option.

Yeah I still don't know how I feel about all this 3-D business. I'm on the proverbial fence, if you will. And not just because I have a post up my ass and I'm afraid to move, but I 100% am and please call a doctor.

Hit the jump to see a ton of the "designer" styles.

Thanks to Sven, who may or may not be a viking (I suspect he is, plus blond).

-SHIT! I'M PREGNANT!-

Can't wait till a cop pulls me over wearing one of those aviator glasses.

hey sup man-

WHOAAA DAAAAAYUUM YOU'S IN 3D SON YOU GOTTA GET SOMA DEEZ

Not so much style beyond the need to address the ergonomic nature of the current (coming straight out of 1982 technology) beasts that accompanies the 3D tvs today that weigh 6,000 pounds and could probably shield the wearer's eyes from prolonged plutonium exposure. Seriously, beyond that there really isn't a need to appear fashionable with something that you're only going to be wearing while watching tv. I don't think the OLED is going to judge you too much. Next thing you know Snuggies will be Hugo Boss'd....

Sounds like a great way to slowly phase out the stupid hipster kids that poke the lenses out of the free ones you get at the movies. Yes please!

@5 Yo I got this amazing product you might be interested in!!! Why have your son or daughter walking around in those every day Snuggies when you could....

I actually kept a set of quality 3D glasses. I've seen 3 3D movies lately. First glasses = okay, second movie = craptastic, third = nice, folding set. I'm prepared.

@2: Nice!

What I'd like is the old school red/cyan in big gold Elvis frames just like the dude in BTTF2!

When 3D movies were being talked about a few years ago articles at the time mentioned designer's like Gucci and Ray Ban making glasses for 3D viewing. Excluding a high price I welcome nicer, more comfortable 3D glasses for 3D theater viewing. I tore apart a pair from the theater and tried to make my own because the recycled glasses at the theater are so uncomfortable. It totally didn't work. The lenses need to stay flat or something because my ghetto glasses distorted the image. Personally I would like an Oakley Blade version. Something without a frame and a single lens. Something that probably looks really stupid but has less obstruction. Something not unlike Jordi's visor.

This is probably one of the first post's without someone saying first....
Until I ruined it. ^_^

That style hasn't been cool since 1996.

Most of those glasses look dorky to me. Who would wear 3D sunglasses in a theater anyway? What's next, 3D contacts?

FAKE!!!!

This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadows are all wrong.

This is exactly like the scene in the movie Never Back Down where Jake and Baja attempt to model some glasses for Michael Jackson's children on youtube. After some tense words not only does Tony Stark want them dead but now the jackson trio (as they call themselves) wants their heads on a silver plate. The Trio is offering a 5 million dollar reward for jake and Baja's termination.

First off, Daisy, you're awesome sauce.

Second off, these glasses look like they would compliment the pedophile beard very well.

They bite. The Bausch &Lomb 3D glasses we wore at Tavern on the Grill for Avatat were the most awesome.

@10 The Oakley Blade is a watch. I assume you just mean one of their frameless styles.

@13. I know it's a joke, but for contacts, you'd need either shuttering (for 3D TVs), which I don't see any time soon, or polarized, which I bet would be difficult to keep aligned.

@10

You really are stupid. You put the glasses on your face, and be happy... plus who the hell in their right mind will spend $100s more just to get some bullshit glasses? Firstly, when you buy the stupid 3D TV they should INCLUDE the FUC*ING glasses! I seen you had to buy special glasses that were over $400!

So not only do they FUC* you on the TV cost, they FUC* you on the glasses, and now companies want to make you pay even more for a failed technology! PLEASE!

This shit will fade out like the laser disk.

glasses look great. too bad they couldnt get a guy who didn't resemble "Powder" to model them. I imagine this ad is a hit with all the pasty white, bald, 70s wannabe losers.

LaForge's "Glasses" are called his visor. Which allow him to see in electromagnetic spectrum.

@15
Is that Captain Jean-Luc Picard?

It seems like I had a dream last night where LaForge turned out to be an android spy and actually had no need for the visor. It was just part of the disguise.... or maybe that was an episode... ?

It is really looking awesome and the idea of making 3D glasses is really cool. I like to wear glasses very much and this is very good news for me.
