Can someone please tell me what the big deal about a tablet is? For weeks, months even I've been reading about tablets. Who cares? Tablets are nothing new. Sure, with an Apple one you'll be able to touch and pinch the screen but tablets with touch (stylus) screens have been around for at least a decade and have yet to take off. What good is a giant iPhone if it doesn't have a keyboard?
5. Closet Nerd - January 13, 2010 3:04 PM
Can you use it as a rolling tray?
6. dubba - January 13, 2010 3:07 PM

so if this is gonna be 1000$ then it will be 5000$ in Croatia..
so yeah. F* Jobs and F* Apple
13. Xodus I - January 13, 2010 3:28 PM
So it's a portable computer...okay...I have one of those called a laptop that does everything that one does, minus the touchscreen, and guess what...IT STILL WORKS IF YOU DROP IT.
Can you imagine how badly that thing is going to get scratched up with normal use? That big of a touch screen is bound to be doomed with french fry grease and ketchup
14. Dishy Dishyington - January 13, 2010 3:29 PM
Can I use it to find a job? To read the book of Job? Will it give me a nose job? Hand job?
It's all about Jobs.

@15...didn't your president just die or something?
19. Pat - January 13, 2010 3:39 PM
@4 It's the latest thing and, for certain applications, it certainly is useful. For instance, a doctor's office I visited last year used tablets so that nurses could pass preliminary information about patients to each other and then to the doctors in the practice.
Will we all be needing them at our desks come summer? Probably not.
20. ~zeus~ - January 13, 2010 3:44 PM

Make that three tacos.
24. Dasha - January 13, 2010 4:05 PM
Either there is no 16, or its really obvious.
25. Xodus I - January 13, 2010 4:05 PM
Well, if it is running ont he IPhone engine then it will be pretty simple to use. But as far as their OSX goes, it's complete bullshit.
26. McFeely Smackup - January 13, 2010 4:12 PM
I realize it's getting overly trendy to be excited about slate PC's (I'm avoiding the term "tablet" because that's already a VERY different product), but it's equally as trendy to pretend there's not use whatsoever for such a device.
I've been wanting/waiting for a true slate PC for many years, the horrid abortions of the "tablet" laptops that simply turn the monitor around and claim Technology Revolution!! are just silly. Lose the keyboard, lose the I/O ports, lose every damn thing except the touchscreen, THERE you have a useful slate.
People are complaining because a slate isn't the same as a laptop. Well good for you genius, you figure it out. It's a different fucking market segment. Personally, I think it would be the ideal couch-lounging web browsing appliance, tack onto that the iphone/ipod app store and you've got a pretty useful device.
27. naas - January 13, 2010 4:15 PM
ladies & gentlemen..... McFeely Smackup
*applauding is heard throughout the building
Well done
28. Xodus I - January 13, 2010 4:16 PM
@26
People are having abortions of tablet PC's? How'd they get there to begin with?
29. ecn - January 13, 2010 5:09 PM

30. mike - January 13, 2010 5:15 PM
its crazy how much life is beginning to imitate star trek. see through screens, touch pads, touch tablets, i wonder when the tricorder will come out.
kinda cool that we are reverting to using tablets, tho. if it was good enough for moses, its good enough for me!
31. Sheldon - January 13, 2010 5:23 PM
So it's a slightly larger, and yet far more expensive version of an iPhone? Wooptie-fucking-doo!
32. corey - January 13, 2010 5:31 PM

33. joe - January 13, 2010 6:30 PM

Hmm...apparently a 10' (that's ten feet) display is likely. Both surprising and awesome
39. Rer - January 14, 2010 12:51 AM
Apple is awful. They lost the PC battle 20 years ago because of the same problems they still have today.
- The Apple tax (we all know what that is)
- Yesterday's technology, today!
- Hardware incompatibility.
- And last but not least, the stigma of being an Apple DB by owning their products.
40. Epacs - January 14, 2010 12:56 AM
If that's supposed to be a 10 inch screen. How big are those fucking headphones laying next to it.

45. Tako - January 14, 2010 3:13 PM
WHy are Crapple still around, their the mightmare of the old age where all the computers cost 6000$ and only 10 people had them. Why are they trying to drag us back?
And why do they always release 10 years old crap for 10 times the price? Die already. Make something that does something, or works.
46. ~zeus~ - January 14, 2010 7:40 PM
