Jun 19 2009Wow, Just Wow: NES Controller Scarification

Link is possibly NSFW depending on how your boss feels about vomit on your keyboard. GRAPHIC: LOOK AT YOUR OWN RISK.
After the jump you will find a picture of BME member Metal_Games, who had the likeness of a NES controller cut into the back of his leg AND THEN THE SKIN REMOVED. Hey, different strokes for different folks. I like freestyle.
The stencil went on, and we were ready to go. Starting with the lines, the pain wasn't half as bad as I'd expected. In fact, it was a breeze for the most part. It took Jeffrey, the artist, about 20 minutes to cut all the lines. A couple of deep breaths, and we went straight on to removing the skin...
Fun fact: it took me five smelling salts to write this post.
Hit it if you dare.

If you're going to massacre yourself like that I suggest doing super mario land

badass scars
this reminds me of the occasion when I took a 18 inch hunting knife and carved the preamble to the constitution into my upper thigh.
Then on an "unrelated" note... one day most of the ladies in the tri-county were suddenly able to recite the preamble to the constitution by heart.
13. naas - June 19, 2009 12:37 PM
@11 funny, I was waiting for someone stupid to question when Daisy would say his/her not funny photoshop line
14. Daisy - June 19, 2009 12:37 PM
FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max killed a drug dealer and then dumped his body in the ocean. Another guy who the drug dealer owed money to assumed the dead guy took off to avoid paying him, and started peeling the skin off all his friends trying to get someone to tell where the dealer was hiding.
15. daizeemae - June 19, 2009 12:39 PM
the outline looks pretty neat but he totally went overboard on the whole "lemme take my skin off while i'm at it" part.
he probably has a mad case of ocd. he saw that the lines were'nt straight and decided to pick his skin off because of it.
=/

Eventually the scars from wound like this lose their pigment. Then you get skin cancer.
I can't believe people deface their bodies in the name of stupidity. I can't even come up with one of my witty monologues on this one. If I were the Fonz this would be thumbs down.

26. .circles. - June 19, 2009 1:05 PM
Just FYI to everyone commenting, scarification is common in the body modification community. When done properly and treated properly (as with piercings and tattoos), they have varied outcomes, but typically turn out just fine.

Yea, it doesn't even look that good. I bet, once that heals, he'll have to explain to everyone what it is. Hopefully he doesn't get an infection and lose his leg. I wonder what a person is trying to "say" by doing something like this.
"I really like video games" ?
"I think the old school video games are better" ?
"I am incapable of imagining my life 5 or 10 years in the future " ?

http://wiki.bmezine.com/index.php/Scarification
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarification
Grow up, children. Scarification in and of itself is not guaranteed for infection the same as neither a tattoo nor piercing is guaranteed for infection- the majority of people attempting a procedure like this are more aware of the risks associated than your average person getting a tattoo, and infections are much more rare than you would assume. Friendlystoner: what a great comparison. I'm sure someone would have to be a murdering sociopath to get such a bizarre modification. And Mirror Mirror- duh, that is the point. The skin will grow back and, depending on the recipient's desire for a more/less intense scar will be irritated somewhat in order to make that likelihood possible, though it's very difficult to predict exactly how a person's body will scar from any given procedure.
That being said: I personally think this looks stupid. It probably could be improved by a box around it and in a different location.

Scarification is on thing to denote a moment in ones life some great happening, an achievement, or a milestone like passing into manhood. I will admit the NES was a great happening but not enough to tear my skin off, there is no achievement here, no great happening nor is it a milestone(unless stupidity is a milestone) there is just one Grade A dumbass. Its a great system I still have and play it, but this is not to way to remember it, cant he play the system?

49. daizeemae - June 19, 2009 1:55 PM
there is nothing wrong with scarification. when someone goes into a fight dont they expect to get hurt? battle scars have been viewed as powerful and strong. i find it intimidating if anything. but this one right here.... it just looks nasty to touch if you ask me.
50. $.02 and a pocket full of FAH-Q - June 19, 2009 1:57 PM
To all of the people saying "it doesn't hurt that much" think about the itching and cracking the scabs will make. Ahh, long term irritation, like a hundred papercuts daily until it heals. Think ahead people, think ahead.
51. Trioxinator - June 19, 2009 2:07 PM
A tattoo would have been neater, cooler, less likely to case gang green, septic shock, or the possible removal of his leg. I've seen scarification, done right (as in dashes or symmetric shapes which don't have to be precise) they look fine and can have tribal meaning , this however will shrink, distort and otherwise morph its way into an unintelligible blob. Nice Work!

59. The Realist - June 19, 2009 3:22 PM
It funny how you can see peoples egos battling it out in this comment section. You have the "normal" people, who are making funny, slapstick-esque type posts, the "scrubs-lovers" going off on Dr. Cox like rants trying to sound smart, and then you have the poor people that wish they worked at Miami Ink or at least knew someone that did, defending body mods and this ducking idiot that obviously is just random guy "A" from somewhere out there, that made a stupid move, but who cares really. I am now going to go outside and beat my own ass for even participating in this comment forum. To those of you keeping it light, you guys rock. To those of you taking the internet seriously, duck you, and the horse you rode in on.

64. ahha - June 19, 2009 4:35 PM
@59 - It is also funny how you omitted that third group which is also present in this comment section. It is most important to your rant as you are a perfect example of it. Those people that occasionally weigh in with these comments as if you are some all knowing, all seeing eye that perceives these truths about the rest of us that no one else could hope to see. Not only are these comments trolls but it usually reveals just how far you have your head up your ass. You know, the guy that tries to make mildly insightful observations and turn them into witty, cynical put-downs but only does so because he lacks the knowledge and creativity to make a meaningful statement about the topic at hand. I'm sure you've been sitting there, ever since you submitted your little tirade, stroking your little kitty cat and feeling oh so superior to the rest of us. Truth is, Mr. The Realist, most people know their posts are of less than perfect substance. It doesn't make you better for pointing it out, it just makes you a dick for trying to condescend to the other posters and make them feel bad about it.
By the way, I like what you did there, the whole "I'm going to beat my own ass for even participating" thing. You know, like you aren't going to sit there and hit refresh over and over. Waiting for someone to respond to what you have said.

IDIOT!!!!
This is a complete comment spoof. You can tell they've got nothing better to do and their apostrophe use is all wrong.
This is exactly like that chapter in the book I've Got Internet Anonymity where Daisy spams a comment thread with the same useless spiel again and again with little variation. Other guys like to pretend to be her with their own version of the tired old formula but it never makes the fact that we're constantly subjected to their lame humor any better. At the end, all the fellow Geekologie commenters light torches and march to his/her house with an appetite for a good old fashioned moron lynching.
70. Jaded Icon - June 19, 2009 6:08 PM

What bothers me most is that it isn't actual size. Unless it's a little person. Is it a little person? Plus you have to play one handed. It's hard to do moves one handed. Unless someone else plays, and then you have to face away from the TV and you miss the whole game. Also, I can never remember which buttons are which. Labels would have been shiny. (Sorry, been rewatching Firefly.)
Fail.
