Sep 8 2008Giant Liverpudlian Spider Didn't Kill Anyone
Remember the giant robotic spider that was supposed to destroy Liverpool over the weekend? Well it didn't. From the reports I've read not a single person was bitten or squished. So maybe we do have a couple more years before the robots finally Tet Offend. Just kidding, a friend's Roomba told me we'll all be dead before Christmas. So you know what that means -- Santa better stuff his fat ass down my chimney early this year.
Search La Machine, Liverpool spider or La Princess on Youtube to see a bunch more of the beast.

What's the point of having it in Liverpool if it wasn't going to kill at least a few scousers.
5. Count Orlock - September 8, 2008 11:05 AM
Well we have...uhmmm...Americans?
That alone trumps 99% of what the rest of the world has.

Hard to tell, but it looks to me like it's just resting on a flat bed truck and the legs are just for show. Am I wrong?
7. Count Orlock - September 8, 2008 11:24 AM
Indeed it's sitting on some sort of truck that's actually moving the spider.

that was a huge spider as well as a huge disappointment. it looked about two½ times cooler when it was hanging dormant on the side of that building.

The spider was alright, but I'm worried about what that elephant was doing to that poor girl.

Clearly the reports that there wasn't carnage were fakes. The shadows are all wrong.
You better check the liverpudlians quite closely. They are pod people replacements for the real ones. Pod people always have terrible teeth, so you can tell.

lame.
Giant animatronic spider sculptures are cool and all, but as soon as you start towing it on a trailer while flailing the legs to try to give the impression of "walking", then it degenerates into lameness.

It's a trap! It's all a lie! It killed thousands!
15. Kurt - September 8, 2008 1:24 PM
So it was just a parade float. Lame.

Wow... Seriously? I thought this thing was actually gonna be awesome... And then... this? -sighs- Well atleast the Geekologie writer can pass off another day without worrying quite as much about a robotic apocalypse or anything like that....
18. I hate Scousers - September 8, 2008 3:49 PM
I very much wished that this spider would kill every last one of them. Shame.

That "little girl" was also featured on Geekologie. She's a robot that has "realistic movements." Same thing with the elephant.
Shame it didn't really move on its own...and shame it can't scale the sides of buildings and the like.

Sad to say, Liverpool was ripped off.
I was initially excited about this spider.
Until I saw the rig underneath and the people operating the thing.
It's completely depressing.
(They could have at least made the operators wear black to blend in.)
Why didn't they just hire the Japanese? They'd build an unmanned (or at least internally-piloted), fully-robotic spider with flamethrowers and random AI.
And they could throw in Ultraman for free.

@20 Amen to the Ultraman.
