Mar 18 2008OLD!: How (Not) To Safely Transport Pets

For all the lovers of old news out there, here's a post for you: the dog-toting running board sack. It was published in Popular Mechanics in 1936 and still remains the safest way to travel with your pet.
When you take your dog along for a ride, but prefer not having it inside the car, it can ride safely and comfortably in this sack, which is carried on the running board. The bottom of the sack is clamped to the running board and the top is fastened to the lower part of an open window with hooks, covered with small rubber tubing to prevent marring the car.
I know what you're thinking, and yes, this is a great idea. I'm going to build one for my wife's dog and take her for a spin around town. I'll let you know how it goes.
UPDATE: Okay the dog bit me and refused to get in the sack. Luckily I'm babysitting my little brother later so maybe he'll want to go for a ride.
UPDATE: I backed over him. It's okay though, I was smart enough to test the sack on a bike first before moving to a car. I've made a few modifications, and I think he's down for another go at it.
UPDATE: Okay, I think he's somewhere between the gas station and the movie theater.

Has anyone else noticed that the man in the car will take out the dog's head when he gets OUT of the car?

#2: you're right.
I'm surprised no one mentioned National Lampoon's Vacation
"Clark, where's the dog?"
"um, well he was on the leash when we left...*closes eyes*"
"Oh Clark, you forgot to put him in the car!"

Mitt Romney is the official "test dog" for this carrier and the running expert on how to attach the family dog to the family car for a family trip.

Dude, do you steal everything from Ogizmo? (with the exception of Lego crap) (OK, the Lego crap is sometimes pretty cool, but I'm just sayin')

What is it for, to keep dog hair out of the interior? Why not just put them in the bag and secure it inside the vehicle?
Better yet, if this were at all an option for a sadistic pet owner, he or she could just throw the animal in the trunk.

@2 it's not that bad when he gets out and hits the dog in the head ( I know my dog has a hard head), the problem arises when he's not paying attention and slams the door shut on the dog's head. Or even better considering the car in the pick has suicide doors, imagine what would happen if the door came open while he was going down the highway. Door would fly open (for those that don't know about suicide doors they FLY open if you are mocing) and would probablye eject the dog quite a good distance

This man needs to be arrested before he does something..

If someone had one of these in the area where I live, I am afraid they wouldn't make it down their driveway without knocking their poor doggies head right off. What I mean is people in Detroit can't drive!

#8: mocing?
Suicide doors don't simply "fly open," as they have a latch that prevents them from doing so (like normal doors). It'd only happen if someone were to open the door.

mocing, moving whatever. Oh and I don't mean they just fly open randomly but if you notice the strap in the picture goes under the door handle. what I was referring to was a normal door if opened when moving will be forced shut where as a suicide door will actually fly open if you touch the handle while moving

Ogizmo? How about Gizmodo? I tried to post earlier that pretty much everything on the front page could be found at Gizmodo a day earlier, but I got censored.. I've multiple posted on entries before now within minutes of each other and not gotten this message, but as soon as I try and post the links as proof, I get this:
"Your comment has been received. To protect against malicious comments, we have enabled a feature that allows your comments to be held for approval the first time you post a comment. We will approve your comment when convenient; there is no need to re-post your comment."
I come back a day later and the post still isn't there! They tried to censor me!

@ cheese it proabaly has to do with the number of links you put in. you can only put in three if you read the instruction up there ^
15. Scott - March 19, 2008 3:27 PM
@13, I actually misspelled Ohgizmo but maybe they left mine in because it's the truth or maybe you're an assclown or maybe @14 is right. Don't get too frustrated, it's just a comments jigger.
I did give them credit for lego crap.
16. boredom - March 19, 2008 4:29 PM
do you guys read all the other sites and then come to this one just to post how you already ready it on a different site a day earlier?
17. cheeseycom - March 20, 2008 10:11 AM
Actually I only put in 3 links, that's why I suspected foul play... no biggy, but I was just disappointed to discover they were pretty much just reposting everything from another site.
@Scott: I'd never heard of Ohgizmo, so the mispelling wasn't the bit that puzzled me.. Hey, no need for name calling.
@Boredom: No I don't read all the other sites. I read one site and I came across a page with all of the exact same items posted, so I thought I'd mention it here. I do come here to read the site, not just post random crap.. but it's annoying as now I've seen everything they've posted days ahead of time. I still enjoy the funny & random comments that they tack on to the reposts though..
