Dec 12 2007The Shotcaller Calls The Shots (Of Beer)

I remember the days in college when we'd play Power Hour. Except it's not so much a game as it is drinking a shot of beer every minute for an hour. Ah, fond memories. Well if you still play now you can buy the Shot Caller device, which flashes a light and makes an audible announcement every minute so you know when to drink. It's nice and big too so it'll be easy to read when things start to get blurry. It costs $15 and can be set to any length of time you want to play. Which is actually a lie, because when I tried to set it for "the rest of my life" the thing started smoking and then exploded.

do you REALLY need one of these to tell you the minute just changed on the clock? That being said I think it's a great invention

A shot of BEER every minute for an hour? How are you supposed to get drunk?

@2 you've OBVIOUSLY never tried it.

@3.. 2 is right. What kind of lightweight are you to get drunk from a shot of beer per minute. That's like 2 pints per hour!

@4.. no, #3 is right. you've obviously don't know how big a shot is. or maybe you don't know how many minutes in an hour. a shot is 1.5 ounces. that's 90 ounces per hour. that's over 5 pints in an hour (a pint is 16 ounces, since you probably didn't know that either).

#4, it winds up being between about five beers=50 ounces=three pints in an hour. Why don't you and Joel give it a try tonight and let us know how that goes.

Clearly I'm not a math major. Anyway, yeah, it'll f*** you up.

a full AMERICAN shot is 1.5 ounces, not 1 ounce. and a regular beer is 12 ounces, not 10 ("five beers=50 ounces").
1.5 ounces/shot * 60 minutes = 90 ounces
90 oz / 12 = 7.5 beers
90 oz / 16 = 5.6 pints

and if a 180 lb guy drank 8 beers in one hour, his BAC would be .16 - that's double the legal limit in most states
http://www.ou.edu/oupd/bac.htm
and its 8 times the limit in Estonia (where ever the hell that is)

Thank you all for clearing that up for me mathematically. I've personally tried it a couple times and you loose half the contestants at about the 1/2 hour mark. It's fun to do though if you can handle your liquor

I prefer chugging contests, myself. too damn much time wasted pouring all those little glasses.
or a funnel - that's a great way to get wasted. 3 beers in under a minute. assuming you don't spew it all over yourself.
