Apr 20 2007Detonating 100 tons of explosives
This is a video of defense contractors detonating 100 tons of various explosive munitions. And yes, it's every bit as awesome as it sounds.

Does anyone know what the ring of "dust" is called that suddenly disappears as the two shock waves collide?
4. Harold Manchester - April 26, 2007 12:16 AM

the vertical shock waves aren't any type of smoke. That is actually air that's moving so rapidly that it causes the water it it to instantly condense.

I like 'bomb expert's comment - sounded so intelligent right up till the part where he f***s up and it makes no sense. Oh and the movie is cool to

That ring of "dust" is actually created by the two blasts colliding. It is water vapor in the air visible under preasure. You'll see the same thing come off commercial jets wingtips and fighter jets all the time when they change preasure on their surfaces.

I think I know where that is and the biggest shot they made when I was there was over 200 tons. The shockwave broke windows six miles away.

what i want to know is, what are they going to do with the giant crater? Answer: Fill it with water and make a lake resort. Defense Dept, make your check payable to (CENSORED), Lexington KY (CENSORED)

Thta was FREAKIN AWESOME... If that was the small shot I want em to post the large one.
@^@ Loved that shockwave. And that was actually the sand that was disturbed as the shockwave rolled through. You can actually see as each mote settles.
If you live in earthquake prone areas you'll know this. In any case that was pretty sweet.

Light and shock wave travel faster than sound.

The shockwave was the sound you gumba!,
why do you the we hear the blast as soon as the shockwave reaches the camera.

The vertical compression wave is sweet. Samething you see in videos of fighter jets breaking the sound barrier. You actually hear this compression wave (doppler effect?) in the form of that first DEEP bass sound. That compression wave is moving a fraction of a second faster than the sound of the actual explosions. Then you hear the loud cracks of the explosions as the shock wave reaches the camera. Bloody genius!
