Feb 28 2007 Freedom chair fits all

super-comfy-chair.jpg

You know the number one thing I look for in an office chair? That I be afraid of it. That I think if I sit in it I'll never get out. And that's why Humanscale's Freedom chair might be the most exciting chair I've ever seen. It features a counterbalance system that adjusts itself to the sitter, eliminating the need for recline controls. Plus I've always wanted an office chair that looks it could fire nuclear weapons and overthrow a small country. And maybe come alive when nobody is in the room.

Feb 28 2007 Wonder Pizza creates a pizza vending machine

pizza-vending-machine-01.jpg

Wonder Pizza USA is developing a vending machine that cooks and serves 9" whole pizzas in just under 2 minutes. Each machine can have up to three different kinds of pizzas available at a time, although I'm curious as to what kind of quality you'd get from a vending machine. I suspect you'd be better off eating pizza you found in a dumpster and washing it down with urine.

Feb 28 2007 Dexter the robot walks like humans

anybot1.jpg

Dexter is a dynamically balancing robot that's been in development since 2001. Unlike other walking robots which have stiff joints and a pre-planned set of movements, Dexter can dynamically adjust. It's joints are driven by air cylinders and are springy like human muscle. It has no statically stable posture which means it has to keep balancing the way a human does. And because there's no programmed walking motion, Dexter had to learn how to walk, allowing for a much wider range of walking abilities than could've been programmed. His walking is still a little stiff though, so I give it another ten years before they perfect this thing and put an Arnold Schwarzenegger skin over it.

There's another picture after the jump, as well as a video of Dexter getting pushed and learning how to walk.

Feb 28 2007 Remote Wrangler puts remotes on your head

remote-head.jpg

Always losing your remotes? Well it'd be pretty hard to if they were all strapped to your face. That's the "idea" behind the Multimedia Remote Control Wrangler (aka Remote Wrangler). And I use the quotes, because I don't think any actual thought went into this. On the plus side, you could always put it on and fight crime as Remote Head Man. I mean c'mon, there has to be better places to store remotes than on your head. Like, say, a table perhaps. A drawer? The face should be your absolute last option, right after the inside of a blender or the toilet.

Feb 28 2007 Pixelnotes is a wall made out of post-it notes

pixelnotes-03.jpg

pixelnotes-02.jpg

Pixelnotes is a wallpaper consisting of four layers of varying gray tones, with each layer perforated in a grid format and backed with an adhesive similar to post-it notes. So basically you write a message on the wall, peel a square off, and reveal the gray beneath it. The wall will eventually form a pixelated image depending on how you use it. Unless you're like me and use post-it notes as toilet paper. In which case it'll be less of a 'pixelated image' and more of a 'giant wall covered in feces.'

More shots of the Pixelnotes design after the jump.

Feb 28 2007 Legos playing Wii

lego-playing-wii-01.jpg

This guy is significantly more talented at Legos than I am. If I tried putting this together I'd probably end up with half the pieces in my stomach and the other half glued to my face.

The rest of the Lego Wii series after the jump.

Feb 27 2007 Robotic Beer Launching Refrigerator

For the ultimate in lazy, this is a mini-fridge that launches beers so you don't have to get up off the couch. I'm just glad there's somebody out there focusing their energies on the important stuff. Who needs a cure for cancer as long as we've got a fridge that shoots beer at us?

Feb 27 2007 Bloomframe is collapsable balcony

bloom-frame.jpg

Bloomframe is a window that can fold down into a balcony. I don't know if I'd actually trust it to hold my weight, but it's an excellent idea for people who like things that can transform into other things. Cars for examples. Into robots. If you don't like that you're clearly in need of counseling.

Feb 27 2007 Missile balloons make your car exciting

missile-balloons.jpg

These are kind of old, but they're still cool so you should get some. They're 4-foot-long mylar missile shaped balloons that you fill with helium and tie to your car to make it look awesome. And what's even more awesome? The real bullet holes the cops will put in your car if you actually try using them.

Feb 26 2007 Wave clock sort of tells time

wave-clock.jpg

The Wave Clock is part timepiece, part kinetic sculpture, and uses ball bearings as its hands. The ball bearings are moved by unseen magnets below the clock's surface, with the only marking being a dimple signifying 12 o'clock. So basically it's perfect for anybody who doesn't want to know the exact time, just something close to it.

Feb 23 2007 Photo illusions

photo-illusions.jpg

Here are a bunch of photo illusions where the guy recreates the landscape by holding something up. Although it's not really an illusion. It's more of a, uh, regular photograph of some guy holding something up. Sawing a woman in half, now that's an illusion! Except when it's real. Then it's just gross.

Feb 23 2007 Verbarius clock prints time with words

verbarius.jpg

Verbarius is the first clock in the world that gives the time like a person, so instead of using numbers it prints out something like forty-five minutes past four, or fifteen minutes to five, or four forty-five, or a quarter to five. Five languages are available out of the box but you can upload any other language using a PC.

This is a cool idea, but it seems way harder to read forty-five minutes past four than it is to read 4:45. Instead of glancing at the time you actually have to read and interpret it. Which is extra hard for me because I never learned how to read. Or spel. Or rite wurds.

Feb 22 2007 Time Table is table clock, play on words

time-table.jpg

The entire top surface of the Time Table is a digital clock made of electro-luminescent film. The table includes an alarm and a timer to switch the light off at night. And sure, why not. How many times have you ever been eating dinner thinking to yourself, "I really wish my table had an alarm." It's like these guys read my mind.

One more shot of the Time Table after the jump.

Feb 21 2007 Laser graffiti writes on buildings

laser-grafiti.jpg

The guys at Graffiti Research Lab have developed a way to graffiti on buildings using lasers. It's not permanent of course, but I'm always looking for cool new ways to draw giant penises on things.

Feb 21 2007 Reflect is mirrored chrome-finish iPod case

shiny-ipod.jpg

Griffin Technologies has released a new set of chrome-finish iPod cases which are made from a mirrored-chrome polycarbonate shell and are so reflective the display almost entirely vanishes when the backlight is turned off. There's also a matte black rubberized case back to complement the chrome and provide a good grip. Although who needs music when you can stare at yourself in your iPod all day. My eyes are dreamy.

Feb 20 2007 Tesla coil prevents car thieves, boggles mind

eye-of-sauron.jpg

This guy attached a tesla coil to the roof of his car, creating the coolest anti-theft device ever. It probably wouldn't even work as an anti-theft device, but it looks so awesome who cares. The guy named it the Eye of Sauron which is cooler than the name I came up with: Wowee Electric Car.

Feb 20 2007 Musical Chair has built in subwoofer

musical-chair.jpg

This musical chair designed by Jacob Mathew has a calcium carbonate poly-coned woofer seated in the belly of the chair. It's hard to tell if it's actually functional and the site doesn't say if it is or not, but it looks cool. And I'm really hoping it is, because I've always wanted to eat dinner while bumping up and down to the hip hop stylings of Celine Dion.

Feb 20 2007 Porsche Design Studios' first boat

porsche-yacht.jpg

Porsche Design Studios has created its first ever boat, set to debut at next week's Miami Boat Show. The 28-foot-long high-speed cruiser is a collaboration with Fearless Yachts, and looks like the boat Batman would have if he were real. It has a fiberglass hull, a 525-horsepower Viper engine, and can reach a top speed of 80mph. And at $300,000 you'll only have to sell your home to own it. And maybe your car. It's almost too cheap.

Feb 19 2007 Toast skulls onto your bread

skull-toast.jpg

Need skulls toasted onto your bread? If you answered 'no' then you're an idiot. Everybody needs skulls toasted onto their bread. Not only does it look cool, it also makes it taste better. And that's a scientific fact. I can't read the site but you can get this bad boy for 32.95 Euros. Which, if my math is still up to par, is roughly 100 gajillion dollars.

Feb 16 2007 Turn your AA into a D

battery-converter.jpg

For $5 this battery converter will turn your AA-size battery into a D-size battery. It won't last nearly as long, but It's better than nothing. Besides, how long do you need to power your sex toys for anyway? Pervert.

Feb 16 2007 Clocky is alarm clock that runs away

clocky.jpg

Clocky is an alarm clock that runs away and hides when you don't wake up. It gives you one chance to get up, but if you snooze it jumps off your nightstand and starts wheeling around the room looking for a place to hide. Yeah, I'm sure it's as annoying as it sounds, but at least it'd force you to wake up. As would a ninja that really really needs to be on time. Silent assassins are punctual as hell.

Feb 15 2007 iPod bikini just as awesome as it sounds

ipod-bikini.jpg

This is Marisa Miller posing in the iPod bikini for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Although it's not really a bikini, just sort of a, uh, iPod. I mean you could cover your crotch with a slice of pie but that doesn't make it a bikini. It does, however, make it a super genius idea.

Feb 14 2007 Defying gravity in photographs

anti-gravity.jpg

Here's a neat gallery of people appearing to defy the laws of gravity. Obviously they're just being photographed in mid air, but their poses make for some pretty nice shots. Especially the one with the naked woman spreading her legs. Hmm, I might be looking at the wrong site.

Feb 14 2007 Largest drain hole in the world

largest-drain-hole.jpg

This is the world's largest drain hole, and is located at the Monticello Dam in northern California. When the dam reaches capacity the spillway swallows water at a rate of 48,800 cubic feet per second, emptying about 700 feet away. Super cool? Hecks yeah it is.

Feb 13 2007 Milk desk is like a giant iPod desk

milk_table.jpg

Milk is a Danish combination office desk and has a built in fish tank, penholder, garbage bin, file cabinets, height adjuster, and a storage box for your iPod. Half of those things are pointless, but it's also white (like milk!) and looks pretty neat. If you stick it in your office you'll feel like you're from the future!

A bunch more shots of the Milk desk after the jump.

Feb 12 2007 The Cyclone is vertical fireplace

cyclone-fire-place.jpg

The Cyclone is a fireplace that features a spinning tower of fire encased in a free-standing glass cylinder. It has pretty low heat so you can install it in hallways or lobbys or anyplace else, but at $3,799 it'd probably look best attached to your solid gold car.

Feb 12 2007 Rubikcubism is art with Rubik's Cubes

rubikcubism.jpg

This guy makes art using Rubik's cubes. Which means he has to solve the Rubik's cube (on one face at least) to fit what he wants. Well that, or peeling off the stickers and putting them on in the correct order. Which I wouldn't know anything about. I'm a genius, not a cheater.

Feb 9 2007 iPod lock protects your iPod

Feb 8 2007 Ring faucet reinvents the faucet

Feb 8 2007 LCD monitor vs Airsoft Desert Eagle

This guy's LCD monitor died so instead of throwing it out he decided to shoot it with his Tokyo Marui Airsoft Desert Eagle. Although I wish he tried it with a real Desert Eagle. I guarantee you it would've been exactly 1.3 billion times cooler.

Feb 6 2007 Ex-girlfriend throws 4 computers out highrise balcony

computer-out-window.jpg

I had 4 computers doing folding (what is folding? - www.grid.org) on my ex's balcony in her highrise apt, and she supposedly got into some problems with her current BF and threw all of them off the building, and here are the photos to show what's left of it.... after 50lbs going through a 200ft fall.

I'm glad no one was killed...... These machines have been dedicated folding machine for couple of years, I did not see the end coming like this.

2 were IBM intellistations M Pro, 2 were HP pavilion P4s.... The force of them falling was so great it flattened a full steel chair at kookooroo's dining area. The restuarant was not open, otherwise you would be reading this on CNN.

Feb 6 2007 Electrical socket closet

Feb 2 2007 Switchable mirror glass makes energy efficient windows

mirror-window.jpg

A group from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) has designed glass which can switch between window and mirror. The switch is done by altering the gas content between the two glass panes. By introducing a small amount of hydrogen into the atmosphere between the panes, the glass acts as a transparent window. Alternatively, adding a small amount of oxygen with no hydrogen forms a reflecting mirror. The idea is to save energy in buildings by reflecting away heat on heavily sunny days. But really I'd just use it to spy on women in my bathroom. Wait, I didn't just say that.

These little plants attach to your cell phone and have everything they need to last 6-8 months. They live off the nutrient-rich gel they grow in and the little exposure to sun from your daily activities and room lighting is enough to sustain them. Plus if you ever get lost in the desert it'll provide you the food necessary to last, what, a couple more minutes before starving to death? Awesome!

Feb 1 2007 Robot tooth dispenses medicine

Have some Grape Nuts for breakfast and the thing would malfunction on you and inject you with Viagra or something.

Feb 1 2007 Huge cliff jump into boxes

This guy does an insanely dangerous cliff jump without a parachute into a pile of boxes. And yeah, it's every bit as awesome as it sounds. The little backflip he does at the beginning isn't even necessary. He could slowly inch out with his toe and it would still be an incredible feat.
