Oct 31 2006 Power Aware Cord tells you how much power you use

power-cord-glow.jpg

The concept of Static! Power-Aware Cord is to give you a visual representation of how much energy you're using. Rather than covering it up, the cord lights up with glowing pulses, flows, and different intensities of light depending on the amount of energy going through. So now you'll know whether your TV or vacuum cleaner or computer is killing the Earth the fastest.

Oct 30 2006 Futaba robot can really move, super expensive

Futaba showed a new 20-servo humanoid robot at the iHobbyExpo this year. The robot contains carries 11 high-torque servos and 9 lightweight servos, and uses them to move super fast and do a variety of cool moves like flips and hand stands. And all for only $1,700. Which sounds like a lot in theory, but can you really put a price on a robot that runs around doing cool things? Yes. Yes you can. And it's $2.99. So unless it comes in a McDonald's Happy Meal you're screwed.

More shots of the robot after the jump.

Oct 26 2006 Cuboglass doesn't know what it is

cuboglass_01.jpg

Cuboglass is a television set that's designed to look like, uh, not a television set. When it's off you can't even tell what it is due to its stronger solid lines and more transparent crystals. Just make sure nobody mistakes it for a microwave and tries stuffing their Hot Pocket in there. Because even though they're awesome on their own, TV's and Hot Pockets do not mix well at all. Like pizza and boobies. Although that one actually works.

Some more pics of the Cuboglass after the jump.

Oct 26 2006 Robotic hand plays air piano

pianist-hand.jpg

The various gears and levers inside this clear plastic hand interact to move the fingers as if they're playing one of six classic piano pieces. Although I think with a little clever programming I can get this bad boy to curse in sign language. Nothing says classy like a clear robotic hand that makes you feel bad about yourself and calls your mother a whore.

Oct 25 2006 Bush uses the Google

bush-google.jpg

I've been known to use the Google occasionally too. But only to find the pornographies. I know the guy isn't a genius, but this is Google. Google. It's like being unfamiliar with that thing we call the Sun.

Oct 25 2006 Woofer is decapitated head speaker

woofer.jpg

If you're into murdering people or collecting fingers or any other weird ass hobbies these speakers are right up your alley. While they might have the best sound quality, are there any other speakers out there that'll make the neighborhood children fear you? I think not.

Oct 24 2006 Navirobo is a GPS teddy bear

gps-bear.jpg

The Navirobo from iXs is a GPS device, but instead of giving audible directions the 9.8-inch bear sits on your dash and raises his paw to point you toward your destination. He even does other cool stuff like turning around to mock you by pointing at a turn you missed or doing a happy little dance once you arrive at your destination. It sounds awesome in theory, but so did trying to make love to my new flat panel TV.

Oct 23 2006 Glass CD doesn't warp, lasts longer

glass-cd.jpg

A Japanese recording engineer has created the world's first glass CD. Because existing plastic CDs are not completely transparent, information on them cannot be read perfectly. They are also susceptible to bending or warping if left in sunlight or humid areas, which leads to sound distortion. However, glass CDs are completely transparent so information on them can be read perfectly, improving sound quality. They're not affected by heat or humidity and remain in perfect condition forever. Unfortunately, each one has to be made by hand and costs 98,700 yen (about $875), which makes them virtually pointless. Unless there's a market of people out there who'd rather listen to really good CD's than pay their rent.

Oct 20 2006 Samsung builds the thinnest TV ever

thin-tv.jpg

Samsung has created the world's thinnest TV, with this 17" display coming in at just half an inch thick. Using a combination of OLED and LCD technologies they've eliminated the backlight which is the largest and heaviest part of the set. Besides, it's about time they invented a TV that makes me question my own personal weight issues. Looking at supermodels all day just wasn't cutting it for me.

Oct 19 2006 Bling H20 is as ridiculous as it sounds

bling-h20.jpg

From the Bling H20 website:

Bling H2O is the inspiration of Kevin G. Boyd, Hollywood writer-producer. While working on various studio lots where image is of the utmost importance he noticed that you could tell a lot about a person by the bottled water they carried.

In Hollywood it seemed as if people flaunted their bottled water like it was part of their presentation. Whether the bottles had a cool shape or came from an exotic island, none truly made that defining statement. Bling H2O was fashioned to make that defining statement. The mission was to offer a product with an exquisite face to match exquisite taste. The product is strategically positioned to target the expanding super-luxury consumer market. Initially introduced to hand-selected athletes and actors, Bling H2O is now excitedly expanding it's availability. Bling H2O has been featured at many recent celebrity events including the MTV Video Music Awards and television's biggest event, The Emmys. Bling H20 is pop-culture in a bottle. But it's not for everyone, just those that Bling.

A bottle of this stuff costs $35. And by stuff I mean water. Because this is water. And it's $35. Per bottle. I'm not saying you're an idiot if you actually buy it, but odds are I wouldn't trust you around any children. Or a stove. Or anything even remotely fragile. And if its inherent stupidity wasn't clear enough, Paris Hilton was seen pouring a bottle of this stuff for her dog. That alone speaks volumes.

Oct 18 2006 Ms. Dewey is an angry search engine

ms-dewey.jpg

Feel like your search engines don't have enough attitude? Want your search engine to scream things at you and make you feel like your life isn't worth living? Then Ms. Dewey is for you. Quite possibly the sassiest search engine you'll ever use, this thing reads magazines, yells, and pretty much does everything you never knew your search engine could do. Or would want to do. Unless you're very lonely, in which case this might be about as close to a friend as you could possibly hope for.

Oct 16 2006 Dome screen gives 360 degree view

tv-head.jpg

This 40 cm dome screen from Toshiba is capable of producing a full 360-degree view. The only drawback is you have to actually use it. Although God forbid anybody sees you, because before you can explain yourself they'll already have shot you dead for invading Earth.

Oct 13 2006 Steampunk laptop looks awesome; works

streampunk-laptop.jpg

This amazing looking steampunk laptop has a Morse key over the trackball and a manual typewriter keyboard. And the most amazing part of all? It actually works. I don't know how and I don't know what it does, but I bet a lot of smoke billows out of it when you turn it on. Which automatically makes it the best laptop ever.

Oct 11 2006 3D display cube displays stuff in 3D cube

3d-display-cube.jpg

If youv'e got $3000 lying around you can get yourself this very awesome looking 3D cube which utilizes 1000 individually controllable LEDs to create 3D forms and animations. Although the only use I can imagine for something like this is spelling out profane words and giggling like a little schoolgirl. Best $3000 you'll ever spend.

Oct 10 2006 Google buys YouTube for $1.65 billion

The internet has reached new levels of insanity. These are the two YouTube founders discussing the acquisition by Google. Each of their laughs is like a tiny dagger stabbing me through my empty wallet. $1.65 billion! Not million. Billion! If you'll excuse me there's a closet I need to go curl up and cry in right now.

Oct 9 2006 Fanatec Heäd$h0t mouse is super ridiculous

head-shot-mouse.jpg

No your computer isn't broken, this $100 gaming mouse is actually called the Fanatec Heäd$h0t. And although it's been loaded to the brim with every unncecessary feature imaginable (who doesn't need their mouse to have adjustable width), the name might put off some consumers. Lame consumers that is. Who don't appreciate the total pwnage of elite game speak to caricature-like levels.

Oct 5 2006 South Park meets World of Warcraft

Didn't catch last night's episode of South Park featuring the World of Warcraft crossover? Then you're a loser. But fear not, for I will save you from embarrassment when people ask you about it and you have no idea what happened. This is the entire episode and - though not entirely accurate to WoW - should be sufficiently amusing to any gamers out there or people who like to pretend they're gamers. I'm looking at you grandma. Stop pretending you know what a Tauren is because it's not a plate of freshly baked cookies.

UPDATE: The silly fellows at Google took it down. Boo.

Oct 5 2006 Logitech diNovo Edge makes your keyboard look like poo

logitech-edge.jpg

If you've got $200 to spend on a keyboard then stop reading this and mail it over, because I sure could use $200. But if you don't feel like doing that Logitech released their new Edge keyboard yesterday and it pretty much makes every other keyboard out there look like human feces. Plus it's only 11mm thick, so if you can't find your frisbee you can just use this bad boy instead.

Oct 5 2006 Richard Lawson's 9Vo(l)tive is sweet mini lamp

richard_lawson_lamp.jpg

If you can't figure out any uses for your 9 volt batteries besides letting them die in your smoke detector, check out these very cool looking miniature lamps. What, you're not a fan of light? Freak.

Oct 3 2006 Venturi Astrolab is another solar car

sun-car.jpg

Apparently all these guys make are solar powered cars. This one doesn't have the extra wind power, but it does look significantly more appropriate than their golf cart version. Fully charged this thing can reach 120 kmh and has a minimum range of 110 km. The only problem I see is that you're sitting in the middle of the solar panels. It's not that I don't enjoy being cooked while I drive, I just usally wait until after I've rubbed myself down with butter.

Oct 2 2006 Venturi Eclectic car powered by wind and sun

solar-power-car.jpg

This little bad boy was shown at the Paris Auto Show and is capable of running without any fuel, being powered by solar and wind energy instead. The Venturi Eclectic can travel 50km on a full charge, can reach speeds of 50 km/h, and can go 15km on wind power alone after a full day of charging. Unfortunately, all the sun and wind power in the world won't protect you from the points and laughs of every stranger you pass because you're driving the world's ugliest car. You'd be better off just gluing some batteries to a trash can and taking that out for a spin.
