Sep 29 2009 Limited Edition Timepieces From Tokyoflash

This is a line of limited edition Casio watches available from Tokyoflash. Now I know what you're thinking, "Gosh, it's been forever -- I didn't think we'd eeeever see any more Tokyoflashes here on Geekologie." Well think again, suckers! Like a Phoenix, Tokyoflash is a fiery dragon created by Gaia to rise from a Japanese ashtray and aid Godzilla in ridding the world of our robotic overlords. And these designs, nowhere near as tricky to read as Tokyoflash's typical offerings, are perfect for those of you with special needs. I ordered the Cubic Puzzle model for myself. What? There's no shame in my special needs game! Now, help me tie this shoe, it's being tricky.

Apr 30 2009 Dead Bugs + Old Watch Parts = 'Cybugs'

Mike Libby is a Maine-based artist who glues old watch parts on dead bugs to create steampunk looking insects. Which actually seem pretty cool until you realize that this is what robots will really look like in a few years. True story: one time I let a beetle crawl into my ear just to know what it would feel like. Unfortunately, it burrowed into my head (not unlike a Ceti eel) and I had to brain myself with an ice pick to get it out. If you couldn't tell, that was a pickup line. Ladies?
The artist, who holds a degree in sculpture from the Rhode Island School of Design, says his Insect Lab began after he found a dead, intact beetle. He thought the bug looked and operated like a little mechanical device, and decided to combine the two in a statement about the similarities and contradictions between nature and technology.
And speaking of statements about the similarities and contradictions between nature and technology: I just zip-tied a laser pointer to my penis. Now -- who wants to see some REAL art?

Mar 10 2009 I Told You I'd Make It Up To You -- And I Keep My Promises: The Tokyoflash Hanko

Remember when I told you I'd make up for my lack of Tokyoflash posts lately? BA-DOW! I am a man of my word. And, as a man of his word (when his fingers aren't crossed), here comes Flash's latest: The Hanko.
Sharp black acrylic lenses reminiscent of a Japanese signature stamp give this watch its name and a newly designed stainless steel case with custom curves provide an additional design edge.
One touch of the upper button animates the sub-surface LEDs in a clockwise direction before the time is presented. Hours are shown in the centre circle of the watch, groups of five minutes are shown in the outer circle in the same position as numbers on a clock and single minutes are shown in the areas between.
Peep the diagram above to better understand how to read the time. The Hanko is available with blue, white or multi-colored LEDs and is one of Tokyoflash's most moderately priced time-receptacles, at about $97. So it might be a good model to get your feet wet -- you know, test the waters. Just be careful of the undertow. It caught hold of me and now I've got Tokyoflash watches coming out the wazoo. But -- I had to swallow them first.
Nov 25 2008 Oh Snap, You Just Got Tokyoflashed!

The Kisai Denshoku (Illumination) is an all new watch design available from Tokyoflash. With the push of a button the 12 bars light up in a three-part sequence to tell the time. First hours, then 10-minute blocks, then individual minutes. So simple even undersirable Geekologie commentors can do it (and then, God willing, die). The watch is available now for $247 and available in both black and gary. Did I say gary? I meant gray. I would hope it's not available in gary, although I did lose a watch in a Samantha once.
Hit the jump to see it in gray, then buy one.
Nov 11 2008 Fire: Set Your Wrist Ablaze! (Metaphorically)

Tokyoflash is back at it, this time with their new Fire design.
Created from a fusion of plastics carefully wrapped around a solid, seamless sheet of highly polished stainless steel, Tokyoflash Fire features a new formation of multi-colored LEDs and is a lightweight design, built to last.
Each hole, with two LEDs beneath the surface represents one unit of time. Yellow LEDs indicate hours 1-12, red LEDs indicate groups of 10 minutes and green LEDs indicate single minutes 1-9.
So it's a fairly easy to read model too. Go ahead -- test yourself on the watch in the picture. Did you get it right? If so, pat yourself on the back. If not, put your helmet back on, your mommy's probably worried about you. The Fire is available now for about $130 and makes the perfect Christmas gift for the person who has everything -- particularly wrists.
UPDATE: F*** it, kankles work too.

Jul 31 2008 Limited Edition Watches At Tokyoflash

I love wearing a watch, mostly because I hate fishing around in my purse to find my cellphone. Also, they're stylish. Well now Tokyoflash has got a couple limited editions from Independent (manufactured by Citizen) and Seiko.
The Independent Retrograde Dualtime features a citizen analogue movement with hours, minutes and seconds presented in the center of the watch beneath the uniquely shaped lens. The date is also displayed in the small window at the top and a 24 hour clock is included in an originally designed L-shaped window at the bottom of the face.
That one is available in several different finishes and will set you back $250 or $280 depending on which you choose. Now the Seiko, this is the one I've got my eyes on.
This is the first watch series we have seen that uses three rotating aluminum discs to represent the time, neatly and mechanically set beneath a brushed stainless steel case. The time is shown in the window on the left of the watch face, each of the discs indicating a different aspect of time, the outer disc showing hours, the center disc showing minutes and the inner disc showing seconds. The use of 23 jewels in the high precision movement ensure that the watch is as accurate as any in this price range.
23 jewels, that's 21 more than I've got. Seriously though, I love the look of that watch. Unfortunately, I don't have the $946 -- but I will make a trade for one.
FOR TRADE: Balls (one pair) -- light wear from kicking, never punctured or played in a real game. Used for practice only.

Jul 17 2008 New Analog Watch Models From Tokyoflash

In a departure from their typically cryptic watches, Tokyoflash has just dropped a line of easier to read analog models from Nekura. That's three of the them there, but there are five in total, so hit the jump for high-res pictures of all of them. Each sells for $85, has an engraved strap which is available with a black or clear outer, and is sure to get you laid. Trust me, I have the Twilight (the middle one) and that thing attracts the ladies like a rare earth magnet attracts a female rare earth magnet. I just strapped that baby on and BA-BOOM, mad chicks were hanging all up on me and fondling my watch. It was sensual. I mean these chicks were so close their chestfruits were like a foot and half away from my mouth (a first!). Mmmm, I could smell the intoxicating scent of their shampoos and I just wanted to eat them up like a zombie chomping on a brain. You feeling me? Because I'm feeling you. Literally. And no, this doesn't count as sexual harassment. This is totally legit.
Hit the jump for a big picture of each one.

Apr 9 2008 Watch Only Tells If It's Day Or Night, Has Rusted Looking Bezel, Costs $300,000

Admittedly we've seen some really freaking ridiculous and expensive watches here in the past, but the Day&Night watch from Romain Jerome takes the cake for the least bang for your buck. It has a Tourbillon movement that only tells you if it's day or night. All this for $300,000. Holy sundials, Blindman, that's a ripoff. Yes, it is. And the real sick kicker is that the thing sold out within 48 hours of its release, making it an instant timeless (!!) classic. WTF!? I mean, for only $30 you can call me whenever you want and I'll tell you if it's day or night. Or you could, oh I don't know, open your eyes. I'm downtown right now, and I swear, the first person I see wearing an expensive watch is getting shanked.*
*Shanked is prison-talk for being stabbed with a makeshift knife. In this particular instance, a sharp piece of tailpipe that broke off when I was trying to parallel park.

Feb 27 2008 Star Watches Let You Know What's Up (!)

These Celestial Watches from Citizen let you know what's going on up in the heavens at any given time. They're a limited edition of 200 yellow ones and 500 blue, and run $585 for the large size and $449 for the smaller one. Basically the face rotates around in real time giving you an exact picture of the night sky that's currently visible. Then using the various dials you can, um, do other stuff that is way over my head because I'm a stupid a-hole. All I'm hoping is that it comes with an alarm that warns of an impending alien visit and subsequent probing. This alarm will be known as Uranus alarm, because it helps protects it from experimentation.
