Nov 5 2009 Shower With 3-D Wrap Around Touchscreen

shark-in-the-shower.jpg

Listen, I love standing in the shower watching full-length movies as much as the next water waster (which is why I just had a swimming pool sized hot water heater installed), but what's the matter with a traditional projection setup? I swear, people are always trying to one-up me. Too bad I know how to do that turtle shell trick in world 3-1 of the original Super Mario and can get unlimited one-ups. Suck it -- I will always out one-up you!

The Roca Waterdrop Shower Room surrounds you by a 3D touchscreen, allowing you to watch movies while you bathe. The touchscreen also allows you to control the temperature of the water and the intensity of the jets.

I mean, sure if you want to be tacky about it. I think we can all agree the touchscreen is a little much. I would have gone with voice-control. AND WHERE ARE THE LASER EXFOLIATORS? Cheapskates.

Mar 13 2009 Sissypants Suing Over Exploded iPod Touch

boom touch.jpg

A 17-year old and his family are suing Apple after an iPod Touch allegedly blew up in the sissy's pocket and caused 2nd degree burns.

It claims the boy had his i-pod touch off and in his pocket at school on December 4th, when he heard a pop and felt a burning sensation.

The lawsuit is seeking more than 200-thousand dollars in damages.

Pfft, I've got some 2nd degree burns but you don't see me trying to sue Cup Noodles. No, I think there's more to this story than the family is telling us. Namely, their house is about to be foreclosed and there was a reciprocating saw involved in the explosion. Elementary my dear, Watson. Now, fetch me a glass of the good stuff and come sit on Sherlock's lap.

Thanks to Douche McAllister, who had an entire sever blow up and catch fire in his pants but refused to sue because he's a real man with wrought-iron genitalia.

Mar 2 2009 Bought It!: Dogs Licking your iPhone Clean

iClean is a 99¢ iPhone/iPod Touch application that makes it look like a dog is lick-cleaning your screen from the inside out. How precious! Currently there are only three lickers available, but more are promised in future updates. I just bought it! Best 99¢ I've ever spent. Well, except for the time I put $1 in a vending machine and got two bags of Doritos. There was a Cool Ranch hanger!

Thanks to Seth, who promises to make a human version soon. I can hardly wait! No thanks.

Feb 24 2009 LG Watch Phone Coming Soon, Costing A Lot

lg-watchphone.jpg

The LG touchscreen G910 watchphone is both watch and cellphone and is actually being made. The drop will start in Europe with a pricetag of £1,000 / €1,144 and then make its way to the states for somewhere between $1,000 and $1,500. So, you willing to pay a cool grand to be the first one with a watchphone? How much you willing to pay to be the first to kiss the Geekologie Writer? Do I hear $10? $5? The ice-cream truck? Wait for me, mister, I want a rocket-pop!

Feb 9 2009 'Sixth Sense' Device Created, Sadly Doesn't Capture The Ghost That Lives In My Closet

sixth-sense-device.jpg

The brainiacs at MIT have gone and created a 'sixth sense' device, which is basically a smart phone/camera/projector combo small enough to be worn on your face like my fist. KA-POW! Also, it does stuff, and won't leave you bruised.

The device...can turn any surface into a touch-screen for computing, controlled by simple hand gestures. The gadget can even take photographs if a user frames a scene with his or her hands, or project a watch face with the proper time on a wrist if the user makes a circle there with a finger. The device can recognize items on store shelves, retrieving and projecting information about products or even providing quick signals to let users know which choices suit their tastes.

Other than letting some of you live out your fantasy of looking as cool as Tom Cruise in 'Minority Report' it can really let you connect as a sixth sense device with whatever is in front of you," said MIT researcher Patty Maes.

"It is very much a work in progress. Maybe in ten years we will be here with the ultimate sixth-sense brain implant."

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Brain implants -- that's where I draw the line. There may be nothing but cobwebs, The Golden Girls theme song, and a candy bar wrapper up there, but, damnit, this is my brain we're talking about here. That said, I'll saw my own skull open if it gives me x-ray vision.

Thanks to Ain and Icehawg, who created a 7th sense device but their research was muffled because it was too far ahead of its time.

Dec 17 2008 I Am Stupid, These Are Better iPhone Gloves

real-iphone-gloves.jpg

Okay, so apparently that last pair of gloves I posted for using touchscreen devices suck because your fingers get all cold. Boy was that a stupid product design. But apparently these DOTS gloves will still work AND keep your digits nice and toasty. They work via those magical little dots on the tips of the fingers. A knit pair will set you back $15, wool $20. Despite contacting the company, I received no word on what the dots are actually made of, which begs the question -- angel nipples?

Thanks to egleaves and David for pointing out that the other gloves are for nose-pickers, not iPhoners.

Dec 15 2008 Are You Even Surprised?: iPhone Gloves

iphone-gloves.jpg

The $23 Etre Touchy gloves are handwear designed for using your iPhone or other touchscreen device in the harsh months of winter. They're just gloves with the index fingers and thumbs cut off. Which *SPOILER ALERT* you can do yourself to any pair of gloves, even $5 ones. Ha, but not while you're wearing them you stupid idiot!

Dec 11 2008 Oh Snap, There's A Zune Phone Coming!

zune-phone.jpg

Or is there? I don't know, I'm not good at speculation. But I am good at making shit up. And also, making out. Ladies?

According to Trip Chowdhry, an analyst at Global Equities Research, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will announce a Zune-style mobile device during his keynote address at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, on January 7, 2009. In an article in Barron's, Chowdhry claims that the company's new centerpiece will combine the best features of the Zune media player with the hardware design of Danger's mobile Sidekick, in addition to "motion enhancement features," like an accelerometer.

Basically, this means the device will come with a physical keyboard like HTC's G1 and will likely feature a larger screen to accommodate heavy multimedia elements. And since we're all here copying each other's mobile phone features, we'll be shocked if the Zune phone doesn't feature multitouch capabilities.

Wow, way to make my new-phone boner shrivel like a century-old prune. Microsoft, Microsoft, Microsoft. Did you not learn anything from yesterday's lesson? Are you trying to drop hints about a new phone or not? If so, this is how it's done:

Steve Ballmer: Zune phone? Who said anything about a Zune phone? Psyche -- gimme them digits, bitches! BA-DOW!

Remember Microsoft, I'm still available for hire.

Nov 10 2008 Not Just A Pretty (Reflected) Face: An Interactive, Touch-Sensitive Mirror

It's a mirror. It's interactive. It's an interactive mirror. You can touch it to paint pictures and manipulate text. "Conceptualized by Alpay Kasal of Lit Studios and Sam Ewen of Interference Inc. This is a patent pending touch capable mirror." Now I'm not sure about the practical applications of such a reflectionary device, but hey, who said anything about practicality? If I wanna do my hair and browse recipes at the same time, that's my God-given right. Kidding ladies, that one's yours.

Sep 25 2008 Best iPhone Application EVER

iboobs.jpg

paiTouch, an iPhone application created by Japanese blogger Technohippy, is a virtual breast. You can poke and prod it all you want and it kind of jiggles around. It's actually pretty crappy. You can test it out here, just click and drag the cursor around. I've got to admit: if this is what touching a booby is like, I'm not that excited about it anymore. Now a penis....JK!

Jul 22 2008 MacBook Touch Hitting Streets In October?

macbook-touch.jpg

There have been rumors flying that a MacBook touch could be hitting the market as early as October. Allegedly these rumors are substantiated too, as they came from a MacDailyNews source that broke the wireless iTunes story early as well.

Think MacBook screen, possibly a bit smaller, in glass with iPhone-like, but fuller-featured Multi-Touch. Gesture library. Full Mac OS X. This is why they bought P.A. Semi. Possibly with Immersion's haptic tech. Slot-loading SuperDrive. Accelerometer. GPS. Pretty expensive to produce initially, but sold at "low" price that will reduce margins. Apple wants to move these babies. And move they will. This is some sick shit. App Store-compatible, able to run Mac apps, too. By October at the latest.

Okay, I've heard enough. Admittedly, I was believing it at first, but now I can tell it's is a lie. How? Trusted sources don't say "This is some sick shit." That's like a back alley plastic surgeon promising you "the sweetest f***in' knockers this eye ever saw" while tapping his eyepatch and waving a machete. Sure you want to believe it, but you also want to know why the guy is working out the back of an Italian restaurant.

That said, I'm sure it's true.

Jun 9 2008 The 3G iPhone Is Here, Fanboys Rejoice And Start Waiting Outside Apple Stores, I Get Drunk And Try To Forget About Life Like Any Other Day

3g-iphone.jpg

Well folks, after months of rumors and speculation, Apple officially announced the new 3G iPhone today at the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference. It has exactly everything everyone thought it would. Well, except when I thought it was going to be a 3D iPhone. Because it doesn't have that. Everything else though, like 3G speed and GPS. The only real news is the price -- $199 for an 8GB, $299 for 16GB. And as an added bonus, the 16 is also available in white. Oh happy day! They'll all be available starting July 11th, so I'm headed up to the closest Apple store to start my month-long camp out. And by "start my month-long camp out" I mean I'll plow my car into the front of the line right before the store opens so I can be first. And by "plow my car into the front of the line right before the store opens" I mean continue lying on the couch. And by "continue lying on the couch" I quite literally mean I'm just gonna keep lying here.

May 27 2008 Touchscreen Turntables Require No Records

digital-turntables.jpg

Let's face it: records are round and made of vinyl. The ATTIGO: TT is the brainchild of Dundee University student Scott Hobbs and is basically two digital turntables (with waveforms displayed) that allows DJ's to "loop, sample and scratch wave forms just as you would a record." Scott is currently looking for manufacturers interested in producing the ATTIGO, and I'm currently looking for a new girlfriend interested in producing beautiful music. But just with me -- not my roommate and the Fed-Ex guy while I'm busy mowing the yard. I HATE YOU JANET! YOU'RE LOOSE AND NOW EVERYONE ON GEEKOLOGIE KNOWS IT.

UPDATE: YOU DIRTY STRUMPET!

UPDATE: Okay, we're back together. But I'm leaving this up because I know she's gonna end up banging the dude that works the aquarium section at the local pet store. I've seen the way they flirt around the cichlids.

UPDATE: Wow, the reptile guy too. Didn't see that coming. Nice touch you skank.

A worthwhile VIDEO of the unit in action after the jump.

May 22 2008 OLED Phone Will Stick Out Of Your Pocket

oled-phone-1.jpg

That is one looong phone. It certainly brings new meaning to the phrase "long distance calling" doesn't it? No, it doesn't, and that didn't make any freaking sense. If you thought it did you should see someone. Like me -- I love crazy people. So what we have here is the "NEED", a two OLED touchscreen phone by designer Tamer Koseli, whose aim was a "no frills" design.

He argues mobile phones are basic multimedia gadgets, far from their traditional aim of communication. He wanted to create a device with no superfluous features. That's right, you won't find a MP3 player, video capabilities, or even a camera.

Now call me an evil genius, but I'm pretty sure having two OLED touchscreens isn't a "no frills" feature. Honestly, that shit is frilly as hell. I mean, you write the damn number you want to call and it dials it? I think that's a little more superfluous than, oh I don't know, punching numbered buttons. That said, what in the hell kind of number is D544 B7B 3...? Do you think it's one of those phone sex things? I love those. I don't even need to talk to a real person, the automated part at the beginning is enough for me.

A bunch more pictures of the thing after the ring-a-ling-a-ding-dong. God I need help.

Jan 3 2008 Optimus Tactus Keyboard Is Questionable

optimus-questionablenus.jpg

We've posted the Art Lebedev 'Optimus Maximus' keyboard in the past, and now the company has another, entirely touch-surface model as a concept. If you're not familiar with the Maximus, it's a keyboard in which every key is a little OLED display, customizable to whatever you want. The 'Optimus Tactus' would be the same, except the whole damn thing is one huge flat surface. Which I don't like because I like pushing buttons, it's rewarding. However with the extreme customization possible, I'm sure there are some good uses for the thing (video, music, graphic work, etc.). But seeing how Art has already been seriously struggling to get the Maximus out the door, I wouldn't get too excited. What I will get excited about is lunch. Because my girlfriend is fixing one of my favorites -- crackers on a hotdog bun. Damn we're poor. That's okay though, because we've got love. And by love I mean scabies.

Jan 2 2008 Start Saving: Mac Tablet Begins Shipping

mac-tablet.jpg

The Modbook from Axiotron is the only Apple-authorized Mac tablet available, and it just began shipping. It's basically a Macbook coupled with Wacom's pen-sensitive digitizer technology. "The Modbook will come pre-loaded with Mac OS X Leopard and is powered by either a 2GHz or 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Other hardware specifications include an iSight camera, an integrated 24x DVD Combo drive/8x DVD SuperDrive, and built-in GPS capability." It also sports a 13.3" display and starting price of $2,290, which isn't too bad. I actually considered getting one as a late Christmas gift for my wife until I realized it would be a waste of money. With all the ribbons, wrapping paper and a box to play with, she would never even use the damn computer.

Dec 3 2007 Guitar Hero: Touchscreen & Magnetic Switch

guitar-hero-touchscreen.jpg

Just last week I posted a guitar modded with an LCD screen, and now a modder that goes by Cyberpyrot has added a touchscreen and magnetic switch to a Guitar Hero III guitar. The touchscreen just shows whateve is on the TV, but since it takes up the space of the normal strum bar he added a magnetic switch under the body so that you play the bitch with a magnetic pick instead! You can also brush you fingers across the screen to control the whammy bar.

The mod took "about 3 days to make, and it wasn't really expensive: $108 for Guitar Hero III, $77 for the LCD, $44 for the touch panel and about $30 for miscellaneous items."

Next the dude wants to add optics to the system so it can play itself. And if there's one thing that's fun about video games it's watching them play themselves while you do jack-shit. Whee!

A couple more pictures after the jam session.

Nov 7 2007 Pressure Sensitive Table Lights Up, Is Thin

light-table.jpg

The pressure-sensitive DeLighTable lights up when you rub your hand across it. If you set down a glass the drink will glow from beneath. The actual surface is only 2 cm thick and runs on 12 volts of energy. They're made to order from KLOSS and start at $2,300. There's a video demonstration after the jump, but it leaves something to be desired. It kind of reminds me of my friend's pressure-sensitive table. It was made out of wood, and was pressure sensitive to car keys and pocket knives. Very long lasting. I bet some of my best penis doodles are still visible to this day.
Video after the touch.

Sep 18 2007 Japanese Card Game Looks Awesome

japanese-card-video-game.jpg

Not totally sure how it works or if we'll ever see it anywhere but Japan, but damn does this thing look like Magic on acid. It's a video game released by Taito at a recent arcade game show in the land of the rising sun. Apparently the touchscreen is interactive, and responds to the cards you place via RFID recognition. If anyone has any more information, or can make better sense of the translated page, feel free to add. All I know is I need one. I haven't had a good game of Magic in a long time. Mostly because I don't have any friends. That, and my freaking dog eats the cards when he loses. Poor sport.

A few more after the jump.

Aug 14 2007 Robot Bartender

robot-bartender.jpg

If you don't like talking to anyone when getting drunk, then check out the Digital Beverages MyFountain (which we will now refer to as the Robot Bartender). It basically looks like a monster piece of crap that sits on a counter with a touchscreen that makes drinks. It holds 12 bottles of liquid happiness and can be programmed to make any drink with said bottles. The only real benefit I see in this thing is it not knowing when to cut you off. Oh, and don't tell me that damn thing squeezed those pieces of fruit out its pipe. How did those get there, Mr. Bartender Robot?
