Jul 6 2009 26-Year Old Easter Egg Found In Donkey Kong

dk easter egg.jpg

You see those initials? Those are a 26-year old Easter egg from the Atari 800 release of Donkey Kong. Landon M. Dyer, the programmer responsible, just recently unveiled that he secretly put his initials in the game. Want to see them for yourself? It isn't easy:

1. Play a game and get a score of 33,000 through 33,900. This score must become the new high score. [Some other scores will work as well, see below.]

2. Kill off all of your remaining lives. However, your last life must be killed off by falling too far - by walking or jumping off a girder that is too high to land safely. If the last life is killed any other way, the egg will not appear.

3. Set the game difficulty to 4 by pressing the Option button 3 times. The icon for this difficulty is a firefox.

4. Wait a few minutes, and the demo screen where Kong jumps across the screen will appear.

5. The title screen will then appear, and Landon Dyer's initials [LMD] will be at the bottom center of the screen:

Yeah, I'll just settle for the screencap. Aaaaaand I'm good.

UPDATE: Video added after the jump. Warning: don't expect much.

Jun 18 2009 Boom Boom Candles Sadly Not Explosive

boom boom candles.jpg

These candles were designed by Mystake to look dynamite and bombs. They're called notmy candles, as in "those are notmy penis tracks in the peanut butter". The bomb costs $5 and the dynamite $7, but you can get them both for $11 and save a Lincoln. I mean Washington. Or do I? I don't know anymore.

bomb and dynamite candles are a real blast [technabob]

Apr 16 2009 Faceless Watch Lacks Face, Hides LEDs

faceless watch 1.jpg

The LED watch was designed by Hironao Tsuboi and appears to just be a metal band. But it's actually hiding a deep, dark secret: it once ran over a bum and didn't stop! Or, LEDs. Push a button, BOOM: the time. Don't push the button, BOOM: no time. Push my buttons, BOOM: fisticuffs.

Hit the jump for another picture.

Jan 25 2009 T-Mobile's Dance Spectacular Commercial

This is a recent commercial from T-Mobile that is almost identical in execution to this stunt (the second video), except there's like a billion times more dancing in this one. Basically a bunch of confederates (damn you, the north!) are walking around in a train station when they bust out in dance and get all wild up in that bitch while onlookers go "what the f***?" and a couple old people question if they remembered to take their medication. Good times. Oh man -- can you imagine if you were just been passing through on your way to catch a train? You'd have missed it. Then been pissed.

Youtube

Thanks to Jon and Mr M, who did a dance number in the middle school talent show but got booed off stage so they set off a stink-bomb in the back of the auditorium.

Oct 8 2008 It's A Surprise!: Wario-Land Promo Video

wario-land.jpg

This is a promo video for Wario-Land. Except, technically, it's not an actual video, it's just a screen capture. You have to hit this link to watch the video. It's a surprise. And speaking of which, did I tell you my friends threw a surprise party for my last birthday? It was awesome, I walked into my apartment and -- SURPRISE! -- they all freaking forgot the most important day of the year.

Thanks to Josh, Kyle, and Mark, who know the only good surprise is an accidental nipple slip.

Jul 15 2008 Evan, 5, Gets Transformers Cake For Birthday

transformer-cake-1.jpg

Evan, a 5-year old from Whoknows, Orcares, got a Transformers cake for his birthday. As you can see, it's fairly well made and features a lead-based Transformers logo on top. But don't eat the figurines, Evan, or your fifth birthday may transform into your last. HAHA AHAH! Seriously though, Evan, I had a real-life Transformer at my 5th birthday. He started off as my dad, but after a bottle of Evan Williams transformed into a guy that made out with the magician's assistant and sat on my cake.

Hit the jump for a close-up of the logo.
