Nov 18 2009 I Like: Geekologie Reader's Mario Animation

This is a 'Pulp Fiction' styled Mario animation that Geekologie Reader Jeremie made. It is most impressive and has restored my faith in Geekologie Readers. For awhile there I was worried you were just a bunch of no-talent FIRST!ing ass-hats. So yeah -- thanks Jeremie, I needed that. *removes laser blaster from mouth*

Thanks to Jeremie, whose starcoin-purse is the one that says 'bad mother f***er' on it.

Oct 27 2009 World's Largest LEGO Mario Up On eBay

mario.jpg

You probably already know this because you searched "giant LEGO Mario" on eBay this morning, but for those of you that didn't, the world's largest LEGO Mario statue is for sale on eBay.

Biggest Lego-Mario in the World - (Size over 5 ft 9 / 70.8 in)

Game Mania Started the build of this statue with aid of a professional Lego builder 2 weeks before officially revealing it at the LEGO WORLD fair 22nd October 2009. This statue measures 70.87 inch (5.9 ft / 180 cm), contains more than 40.000 Lego bricks and weights over 110 lb (50 kg).

Profit will be donated to charity: The Ronald McDonald House Charity in The Netherlands.

Mario has been completely glued together so he doesn't arrive like that pre-built LEGO castle I ordered and is currently at €3,250 (~$4,800). Anybody own an arcade? Because I think he'd look great standing outside an arcade (not unlike a cigar store Indian). Haha, like arcades even exist anymore! Wait -- what do you mean your mall has one? ZOMG CAN YOU GET YOUR MOM TO DRIVE US?!

Hit the jump for a couple more shots and a link to the auction.

Oct 19 2009 Aww: Custom Mario Level Wedding Proposal

Some guy proposed to his girlfriend by spelling out 'LISA WILL YOU MARRY ME?' in coins in a Super Mario World level he edited. This is the video of Lisa playing the game and accepting his proposal.

My nerdy way to propose. On October 15th 2009, it was out 5 year anniversary so i decided to propose. Using a program called lunar magic I was able to spell "lisa... Will you marry me?" she may not look too surprised in the video but you should of seen her afterwords, she couldn't sit still!!! And no it wasn't staged, but I did sit her down told her to play some Super Mario World, but she totally didn't know she was being recorded!!

Cute! This gives me a great idea about how I'm going to propose. By never asking. What do you think -- too romantic?

Youtube

Thanks to mygirlfriendtoldmetosendthisin, Alex, Geo, Steve and Chaemelion, who all proposed the old fashioned way: by hacking roadsigns.

Oct 12 2009 I Would 100% Eat Those: Mario Bon-Bons

mario-bons-1.jpg

These Mario bon-bons were all created by L337 skilled pastry artist (and Flickr user) Ana Fuji (like the apple!) and feature a fondant character atop a delectable chocolate ball. I think my favorite is either the fire-flower or Bomb-omb (another picture after the jump). Also, Ana did a series of Pokémon characters as well, which I think we can all agree brings new meaning to the term "Poké-bons", am I right? Or any meaning at all SEEING HOW IT DIDN'T EXIST BEFORE I JUST MADE IT UP! Word wizarding degree: I got mine from Hogwarts. Get jealousful!

Hit the jump for another shot of the Mario-bons and one of the Poké-bons.

Oct 7 2009 I Like Turtles: Woman Birthing Drybones

drybones.jpg

This is a mammogram ultrasound of a woman who, quite clearly, is gonna give birth to a Super Mario character. It came with the following note:

I think maybe Amy has been playing too much Nintendo....

(When you work around designers - it only takes an off hand half-mention of something visual for it to end up in a photo.)

Congratulations, Amy. Maybe your little Drybones will be the minion to finally put those pesky Mario Brothers under! Then, Peach will be mine. MWAHAHAHAHA! Suck it, Bowser! No I mean it -- you look like a dinosaur.

Thanks to PolarBearAttack, who will be the last thing you ever see before everything fades to white. Snowstorm!

Sep 29 2009 Super Mario 2 With Hardcore Commentary

NOTE: Video is NSFW due to language.

This is a video of some guy playing Super Mario 2 with running hardcore commentary. I thought it was pretty funny. And the couple of people that I sent it to thought it was pretty funny too. But hey, maybe you'll think it's stupid. That's cool, you can't please everybody. And trust me, I've tried. Remember that 2007 Geekologie Gangbang? There were a lot of you guys just standing around all awkward-like. Sorry.

Thanks to JDarkside, who lives HER whole life hardcore cause that's all she knows.

Sep 12 2009 Scratch Meeeeee!: Super Mario Fingernails

mario-nails-1.jpg

This is somebody's false fingernails that photobucket user nailchick27 painted with a Super Mario Bros. 3 theme. As you can see, they're good looking. I can't say for certain I'd date a girl with nails like that (because I wouldn't), but I would let her give me a back scratch. Harder. Go on, harder. HARDER. DO IT TILL YOU SEE RIBS! Now smoke a rack, I'm getting hungry.

Hit the jump for one more shot of the whole set.

Sep 4 2009 Oldschool Flavor: Epic Farm In Farmville

farmville.jpg

I don't play Farmville because I don't have time (also, for those of you that do play on Facebook -- I'm tired of getting updates every time your cow gives birth). But if I did you better believe this is what my farm would look like (higher res version HERE). Except Kid Icarus would be there banging Samus in a cornfield. Say metroid! Say it!

Jul 20 2009 N64 Mod Looks Like Super Mario 64 Castle

mario-n64-1.jpg

Some guy went and modded an N64 to look like Princess Peach's castle from Super Mario 64. I think he used modeling clay or something. Anyway, it sold on eBay for a cool Eisenhower Franklin. That's $100 for those of you who have never seen one.

Up for auction is a hand-designed custom Nintendo 64 made to look like Peach's Castle from Super Mario 64. The exterior of the castle has been molded to look like the bricks and roof tiles, then painted. The mural of Princess Peach is a very detailed mosaic and the five flags are made of cloth. The top part of the castle is removable so you can put a game cartridge inside when you need to.

Yeah well what if I don't wanna put a game cartridge inside? What if I want to jam a piece of bread in there? "That isn't a toaster, GW!" SHUT UP I KNOW WHAT I'M DOING! Now, why is my bread still cold?

Hit the jump for a couple more pictures, including a closeup of the mosaic.

Jun 8 2009 Conan Does Bit About Super Mario Backdrop

This is a video of Conan O'Brien talking about his new Mushroom Kingdom inspired backdrop. I don't want to ruin it for you, but there were no dinosaurs. Also, that's two plugs now Conan, it's time you holler back at your boy.

Youtube

Thanks to Fally, who agrees late-night television is seriously lacking in the dinosaur department.

May 30 2009 She Laid An Egg!: A Cute Yoshi Nursery

yoshi nursery 1.jpg

This is a cute Yoshi nursery made by Flickr user meadblog for his first little bundle of pain joy. And, according to a recent study conducted by yours truly, raising your child in a video game-themed nursery helps the youngster develop better hand eye coordination and ability to pwn others in the future. Isn't that right, little Geekologie Jr.? "pew pew!" Awh, that's my boy!

Hit the jump for a couple more shots and a link to his Flickr gallery, with has a ton of work-in-progress pictures.

May 23 2009 He's An Addict!: Mario Buying Mushrooms

mario shrooms 1.jpg

This is a new $18 shirt from Threadless that features Mario buying drugs from his little mushroom-headed dealer. As you can see, one star coin scores three whole shrooms, which is a pretty good deal if you ask me. But who's asking me? YO MAMA. Ooooh, burn! But seriously, this reminds me of the time I was duped into buying a bag of oregano for $40 and, knowing good and well what it was, still smoked it. ZOMG I got sooooo crunked!

Hit the jump for two shots of what the shirt looks like on bodies.

Hit the jump for some Zelda, Pac-Man and Tetris action. Shit, there might even be an $8 cheeseburger coaster set. Hit the jump for a whole bunch more and link to the store.

Apr 17 2009 Super Mario Theme Played On Laser Cutter

This is the Super Mario Bros. theme being played using the step motors of a laser cutter. It sounds just like you think it would (read: PEWLESS). Still, it's kinda cool. Not as cool as a cold one, but *glug glug glug* my God that's delicious. Now, what were we just talking about? Right, you getting me another beer. I vote yay.

Video: Laser cutter plays Super Mario Bros. theme [offworld]

Thanks to Sr. Laser Mario, who once played the Mario theme on a powerful burning laser and lost four fingers on one hand and two on the other. Still, it was beautiful, Sr. Mario.

Apr 7 2009 Now That's Fine Art: Mario Strikes Back

maro strikes back.jpg

This is painting by Los Angeles artist Misha entitled Empire. There are two others after the jump, both of which feature some relatively not-at-all-hot slave-girl Peach action (okay, the second one did a little something). They're all available for sale if you're interested, to the tune of $1,400. Which, haha, is a little out of my range. You see, I only sing bass. And speaking of which -- all yours are belong to me!

Hit it for the others.

Mar 27 2009 Warp Whistle: Mario In The Real World

We've already seen several different versions of what it would be like if Mario existed in the real world. And, well, I hope you liked them because here comes another. This one is entitled 'Warp Whistle' and documents the plump little plumber's visit to Chicago. It's only three minutes long, so even if you hate it, you only wasted three minutes. Which, be honest, you would have blown just acting like you were working anyways. And speaking of acting like you're working -- can one of you tell The Superficial Writer or Iwatchstuff to jiggle my mouse -- I was supposed to come in today but decided to get drunk and lay on the bathroom floor instead.

Thanks to Lindsay, who looks a lot better in a raccoon suit than Mario. Furplay, YOW YOW!

Feb 20 2009 Talented Geekologie Reader Makes Mario 1-Up Mushroom From Tequila Bottle Cork

tequila shroom.jpg

It never ceases to amaze me the talent you Geekologie Readers possess. In this particular case, reader Bexx B. made a 1-Up mushroom out of the cork from a bottle of tequila she chugged. *swoon*

So, because I am a drunkard. After finishing off my bottle of Trader joes Tequila - I looked @ the cork.. and thought WELL goddamn! it looks like a mushroom.

So I made this from it. A 1-up Mushroom! HA!

Wow, creative AND an alcoholic. Really reminds me of somebody I know -- The Superficial Writer! Half burn?

Thanks Bexx, now eat it and tell us what happens.

Feb 18 2009 Toadstool Brains: A Super Mario Zombie Shirt

zombie mario.jpg

Zombie Mario, who would have thought? Not me, but that's because I'm not creative. One time in grade school our teacher told us to draw a made-up animal and I drew a cat. I did not receive full credit. And that, dear reader, is how I developed a stuttering problem. But that's neither here nor there, just traumatizing. This Zombario t-shirt costs $16 and features everybody's favorite mushroom munchin' fool out on the prowl for brains. And as you can see, he found some. Toadstool's. Ha, he's probably tripping his ass off right now, just look at his eyes. So dreamy. *swoon*

Jan 21 2009 Sure, Why Not?: Dude Laser Etches All The Levels Of Super Mario Land Onto His Eee Pc

etch-1.jpg

Remember Super Mario Land for the Gameboy? Yeah, that shit was hard. Well Flickr user revolvingdork went and laser etched the top of his Eee PC with the entire freaking game.

Everything from the familiar layouts of 1-1 to the climactic battle with Tatanga in the clouds at the end of 4-3 is represented in the etching.

This was made possible with the laser cutter at NYC Resistor in Brooklyn, where you can go to get your laptop etched too!

I set the laser in raster mode at 70% speed and 40% power to achieve this look.

There you have it folks, now get out there and laser-etch your laptops! Except for best results I recommend setting the laser for 1% speed and 100% power. Just trust me -- if your computer catches fire, it's working.

Hit the jump for a closeup in which you can really appreciate the detail.
