Aug 23 2009 They're Coming: Space Invaders Lamp Shade

invaders-lamp.jpg

This Space Invaders lamp shade is available from meninos in both ceiling and table varieties for 60 bones. Each side of the cube features a different invader from the game and is sure to scare the crap out of you on your way to the kitchen in the middle of the night. Just sayin', I used to have a Frogger lamp in the dining room and some of the shit on the walls is so high I can't even reach it. Dinner anyone?

Thanks to Tizer, who knows the only acceptable lamp shade comes in dinosaur form.

May 7 2009 FAKE: Shadow Chair's Shadows Are All Wrong

shadow chair.jpg

The $1,050 Shadow Chair may appear to defy the laws of decency, but it's actually not. IT'S A TRAP TRICK! SPOILER ALERT: The shadow is actually part of the chair's frame. HIYO -- I bet you didn't see that coming, did you? You did? Oh, well aren't you just the little Sherlock Geekologie Reader!? Well riddle me this then: if a train departs Washington DC traveling north at 60 MPH, and another one leaves NYC going south at 55 MPH, does anyone get groped on the subway in Japan? Probably -- and that's just wrong.

Hit the jump for a picture of the seat in action.

Mar 6 2009 FAKE!: Magnetic Photoshop Picture Boards

photoshop boards.jpg

From meninos, the same company that's bringing us tampon flash drives, comes some Photoshop/Illustrator picture boards. They're basically magnetic whiteboards that come with magnet sets that look like the various Photoshop/Illustrator toolboxes. The toolbox magnets for either program will set you back $25, $65 with a 20" magnetic board, and $80 with a 30" board. So buy one for your cubicle, and then start hanging all your memos/emails. That way when your boss comes by to ask why you haven't done jackshit for the day, you can tell him the most recent memo was clearly a fake, and has been Photoshopped -- you could tell because the shadows were all wrong. You will then be applauded for your detective skills and promoted. Or fired. Hopefully fired.

Hit the jump to see closeups of the two magnet sets.

Apr 18 2008 Sunlight Poem Projector Is Brilliant, Beautiful

sun-poem-1.jpg

The One Day Poem Pavilion is cool and proof that the sun is smarter than you think. By sending his rays through an arrangement of pre-cut perforations he makes poems appear in the shadow of the little pavilion. You only get to see one stanza at a time, so it takes a good while to read an entire poem (worthwhile time lapse video here).

Using a complex array of perforations, the pavilion's surface allows light to pass through creating shifting patterns, which-during specific times of the year-transform into the legible text of a poem. The specific arrangements of the perforations reveal different shadow-poems according to the solar calendar: a theme of new-life during the summer solstice, a reflection on the passing of time at the period of the winter solstice.

That's beautiful. If I had any talent for building things I'd be tempted to construct one in the backyard with a little bench and maybe a garden gnome. No, a whole family of garden gnomes. I love those ornery little bastards. Well, except for papa gnome -- he's always trying to steal vegetables out of my garden. Plant some yourself you lazy freaking cheeseweasel!

Another picture of the pavilion's poetic beauty and a link to the time lapse video (in case you missed the link in the text), after the jump.

Jan 17 2008 The LapDome Should Have Never Been Made

ridiculous-laptent.jpg

The LapDome is a tent for your laptop so you can see the screen when you're computing in places you shouldn't be. They run $30 - $80 depending on which ridiculous model you choose and are totally not worth every cent. My rule of thumb for laptop use is as follows: if you can't see the screen you should close the laptop and enjoy the outdoors. I mean that couple in the picture is at a nice pool with a diving board. What kind of damn fool uses a laptop by the pool when you could be playing that game where someone throws a beach ball and you jump off the diving board and try to catch it. I mean that shit is fun. Way fun. Just make sure there's water in the pool first. Trust me. R.I.P. "Pool Games" Pete.
