First of all, acronyms aren't allowed in Scrabble. Or proper names. Making this 'the least played by the rules' game of Scrabble ever. That aside, is it the geekiest? Maybe -- you be the judge. I will be the jury. Except, instead of paying attention and taking notes, I'll be doing a Sudoku. You hear that, court system? STOP CALLING ME FOR JURY DUTY! I have the attention span of

Feb 23 2009 And The Scrabble Word Of The Day Is....

scrabble.jpg

Dildo. Every day on Hasbro's Scrabble homepage it gives a word of the day and definition from the Official Scrabble Dictionary. Yesterday's was dildo. I took the screenshot myself too so I know there was no Photoshoppery involved. Just a disgruntled employee. Or, I dunno, a random word generator. Good looking, Scrabble, I guess kids gotta learn somehow. I happened to learn rummaging through my sister's nightstand looking for a G.I. Joe she stole. That was Saturday. I'm growing up quick!

Thanks to Wes, who is a wordsmith, but unfortunately, not a locksmith. I'm about to break a window.

Jan 19 2009 Wood Is Good: A Scrabble Keyboard

scrabble-1.jpg

Ever wondered what a keyboard would look like if it had Scrabble tiles for keys? This. Finally, you can sleep at night.

This keyboard was commissioned by a couple of friends of mine from back east (NJ) who are avid Scrabble players. Most of the keys are made from real Scrabble tiles that were all hand-beveled (truly an exercise in patience/masochism!) and built onto a USB, clicky, mechanical-switch keyboard. This keyboard was going into a Mac environment so I decided to use brushed aluminum for the casing and round all of the corners to keep with the sleek, simple Macintosh styling. Near the end of the build, I decided that the keyboard looked a little too minimalist so I added some silver hardware and a seam to put a slightly industrialized twist on the design.

Alternatively, glue Scrabble tiles to your current keyboard. Just make sure you put the correct letters on. O YJOML O YXDEW IT IO! That's a bingo, count it.

Hit the jump for a bunch of closeups.

Feb 13 2008 Chocolate Scrabble Looks Yummy, Delicious

chocolate-scrabble.jpg

Chocolate Scrabble is a chocolate bar with the alphabet on it. It's 3.5 ounces of delicious dark chocolate. Unfortunately one set of the alphabet does not constitute the tiles necessary to play a round of the awesomest word game ever. So you'll have to buy a bunch of bars. Like 12 (the number of E's in a regular set). Then you'd have to eat 11 Z's, X's, and Q's along with a bunch other letters. Still, I love the idea. It looks a lot more delicious than the Scrabble tiles I made, which are razor blades. Deadliest game of Scrabble you'll ever play.
