Oct 21 2009 Stop Motion Of Papercraft Link Construction
This is a little stop motion video of a papercrafter constructing a Link model. The model is amazing, and so is the build, so you should check it out. But you shouldn't check out library books that will get you blacklisted. Or women on the street. BECAUSE I AM AGAINST THE OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN. Women are people too, you know. Except those crazy bodybuilding ones. They're wild animals.
Thanks to Jessica, who once made a papercraft model of the Geekologie Writer and then burn it as an effigy. Gee, thanks.
Oct 10 2009 Arguably The Best Haircut OF ALL TIME

This kid has what might very well be the best haircut of all time. It definitely beats the bowl cut I used to rock as a kid. Also, I had a rat-tail. Which, I'm not ashamed to admit, my mom still has saved in an envelope somewhere (not even kidding). What?! Don't even act like your parents don't still have all your baby teeth!
My Hair is Batman, Your Argument is Invalid. [geekstir]
Thanks to cody, who didn't have hair until he was two and then only on his back. Tough break, kid. There's always the carnival.
Jul 29 2009 Unhappy Hump Day: Another Learning Robot

Just look at that picture. Do you see anything wrong with it? If you answered, "yes -- absolutely everything, there is not a single thing right about that photo", congratulations, there's hope for you yet. Anyway, a group of hellbent fools at the Developmental Robotics Laboratory at Iowa State University have developed a robot that they hope will be able to learn things similar to the way a child does.
Rather than pre-program it to perform a set of tasks, the team believes that robots need to experience the same kind of development that humans and animals do.
To that end, their 'bot is equipped with two long arms and a pair of webcam-looking eyes. It can hear and see, and learns to identify objects by picking them up and performing different tests, such as shaking or dropping them.
Yes, shaking and dropping them. Just wait until it identifies a human. Also, whose bright idea was it to give that thing a pair of scissors. I'M NOT EVEN ALLOWED TO USE SCISSORS AND I'M HUMAN! Moooooooom -- the dog made me glue my head to the carpet again!
Video of the learning baby deathbot in action after the jump.

Dec 12 2008 Sweet: Wicked Zelda Papercraft Models

Zelda. I almost named my dog Zelda. But then I realized the real princess probably wouldn't eat cat shit, so I didn't. Anyway, this is a papercraft model of Link's hat and hair from Twilight Princess. But it's only one of a million different Zelda models available over at Nintendo Papercraft (which has tons of other Nintendo characters as well). If you're good with scissors and glue go check them out, make some, then send them to me. I'm not allowed to use scissors anymore because I cut my own hair once when my mom wasn't paying attention. Then I ate it. It tasted hairy.

Nov 24 2008 Bullets And Paper Cuts: Hellboy's Samaritan

This is a papercraft model of Hellboy's revolver, the Samaritan. It's pretty freaking wicked and features a working hinge, loadable bullets, and complicated instructions. Hit the jump to see another pictures of the intricacy. But if there's one thing I've learned during my brief tenure on this planet we call f***ed, it's this: don't ever bring a paper gun to a knife fight -- you're gonna get stabbed.
Hit the link for the 14-page printable instructions.

Sep 9 2008 Make Your Own Mario Hat -- From Paper!

Always wanted Mario's iconic red cap but hate fabric? Well how about a paper one? That's right folks -- for the low, low price of some paper, printer ink, and Band-Aids you too can have your very own Mario cap. Looks too complicated for me though. The last time I made a paper hat it broke and my girlfriend got pregnant.

Jul 28 2008 Wait, What?: 25 Gesture Rock-Paper-Scissors

PRS 25 is rock-paper-scissors with 25 different gestures, also known as rock, paper, scissors, gun, dynamite, nuke, devil, laser, alien, moon, snake, sponge, cardboard, spoon, candle, dragon, geekologie writer, bowl, water, magic, dagger, tank, air, something, nachos, leopard, something, etc.. If 25 gestures is too many for you, there is also standard rock-paper-scissors and 5, 7, 9, 11, and 15 gesture varieties (and a mind-boggling 101-gesture version HERE). I like some of the explanations for why one particular sign beats another. Like, "Rock crushes woman", "Monkey flings poop at woman", and "Woman has sex with dragon". Okay, I made that last one up, but I did see it in a movie once. And that movie, my friends, was Harry Potter.

Thanks SomeGeek, you beat me again.

Papercraft Fun Frustration: Batman's Tumbler

Ah, Papercraft. A hobby that involves two of my favorite pastimes: cutting things, and glue. Did I mention I huff glue? I huff glue. Did I mention I huff glue? Freaking love that stuff. Anyway, this is a Papercraft Tumbler. It looks complicated and I could never make it. Not in a hundred years. I could cut the tip of a finger off though. Or, if the price is right, a toe. "You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon...with nail polish." While I have no Papercraft skills, my roommate has been up for two days straight working on this thing. I just peeked in his room and he's passed out on a pile of dirty clothes with one ball hanging out the fly of his boxers. But the car looks finished. So while he's sleeping I'm gonna tape a couple fireworks to the back and shoot it down the street.
UPDATE: So it, uh, burnt up pretty quick.
Hit the jump for several more shots and a link to the PDF's if you want to make your own.

Feb 27 2008 Papercut Art Is Stunning And Made Of Paper

Peter Callesen is an artist who cuts up paper into beautiful little things. Sort of like Papercraft, but he always uses the actual sheet from which the design was cut as part of the piece. They're all absolutely beautiful. I posted a few of my favorites, along with a link to the whole gallery after the jump, which is a must see. I really admire the time and patience this takes. I know, because I've tried to make Papercraft objects before and I sliced off a finger and glued my hand to my privates.
Several more pieces and a link to the gallery after the cut.
