Oct 21 2009 Stop Motion Of Papercraft Link Construction

This is a little stop motion video of a papercrafter constructing a Link model. The model is amazing, and so is the build, so you should check it out. But you shouldn't check out library books that will get you blacklisted. Or women on the street. BECAUSE I AM AGAINST THE OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN. Women are people too, you know. Except those crazy bodybuilding ones. They're wild animals.

Thanks to Jessica, who once made a papercraft model of the Geekologie Writer and then burn it as an effigy. Gee, thanks.

Sep 12 2009 Master Cuts: Life-Size Link Papercraft

paper-zelda.jpg

Papercrafter Haywan got ambitious and decided to make a life-size Link. Out of paper. Making it quite possibly the most amazing feat I've ever seen in my entire life. Be sure to follow the links to see more pictures and ten videos of Haywan putting the thing together. WARNING: It's mind bogglingly complicated. Good lookin', Haywan, now how about a life-size Zelda? What? I LIKE PAPERCUTS DOWN THERE.

Jan 20 2009 Fire Hazards: $5,000 Paper Houses

paper-house-1.jpg

The Wall AG is a Swiss company out to solve the problem of homelessness, particularly in third-world countries, with the Universal World House -- a $5,000 paper house.

This isn't mere papercraft--the Universal World House is a $5,000, 390-square-foot modular home, outfitted with plumbing and boarding facilities to support up to eight (eight!) residents each. The secret of its construction is its "paper" shell; the resin-soaked cellulose, made from recycled paper, is shaped into honeycomb walls, which provide structural integrity and insulation to the houses.

Concerned about your ability to slaughter an animal in your new abode? Worry not!

It has been designed so that a family can slaughter an animal on the veranda, wash it in the shower and hang it, along with fish, on an integrated washing line.

Sweet! The only problem is the, uh, the paper. Remember The Three Little Pigs. Even the dumbest one used straw. Just saying.

$5,000 Paper House is the World's Swankiest Hobo Pad [gizmodo]

Thanks to kristy, who was smart enough to build with Styrofoam.

Dec 12 2008 Sweet: Wicked Zelda Papercraft Models

zelda-paper-1.jpg

Zelda. I almost named my dog Zelda. But then I realized the real princess probably wouldn't eat cat shit, so I didn't. Anyway, this is a papercraft model of Link's hat and hair from Twilight Princess. But it's only one of a million different Zelda models available over at Nintendo Papercraft (which has tons of other Nintendo characters as well). If you're good with scissors and glue go check them out, make some, then send them to me. I'm not allowed to use scissors anymore because I cut my own hair once when my mom wasn't paying attention. Then I ate it. It tasted hairy.

Hit the jump for a whole bunch more of my favorites, then check out the link for tons and tons more.

Nov 24 2008 Bullets And Paper Cuts: Hellboy's Samaritan

paper-gun-1.jpg

This is a papercraft model of Hellboy's revolver, the Samaritan. It's pretty freaking wicked and features a working hinge, loadable bullets, and complicated instructions. Hit the jump to see another pictures of the intricacy. But if there's one thing I've learned during my brief tenure on this planet we call f***ed, it's this: don't ever bring a paper gun to a knife fight -- you're gonna get stabbed.

Sep 19 2008 Sure, Why Not?: Cardboard Cat Playhouses

cat-playhouses.jpg

These fold-it-yourself cat playhouses from suckUK are made from grade-A cardboard and there is no way in hell my cats could fit through that little hole in the top without utterly destroying the thing. But if you have small cats, each one costs about $27, making them some of the most expensive pieces of soon-to-be shredded cardboard I've ever seen. Seriously, if you love your cats and want to get them the nicest playthings, do what I did and get them all Power Wheels. Oh, hold on. "Jimmy, what did I tell you about running over the dog's tail? Haha, yeah, you want to be going full speed. Good kitty."

Sep 9 2008 Make Your Own Mario Hat -- From Paper!

mario-paperhat.jpg

Always wanted Mario's iconic red cap but hate fabric? Well how about a paper one? That's right folks -- for the low, low price of some paper, printer ink, and Band-Aids you too can have your very own Mario cap. Looks too complicated for me though. The last time I made a paper hat it broke and my girlfriend got pregnant.

Sep 3 2008 Star Trek Set Built Out Of Rice Krispie Boxes

rice-crispies-1.jpg

Mmmm, looks delicious, doesn't it? Sure does. Self proclaimed Trekkie and Krispie Bob Prior built various Star Trek sets out of Rice Krispie boxes. Why? Because they're goddamn delicious, that's why.

His 50 models include the Starship Enterprise, its command bridge and captains James T Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard.

The car park attendant, who says his favorite characters are Kirk, Scotty and McCoy, took six months to put together his cardboard collection, and roped in sons Nigel, 25, and Daniel, 20.

Uh-oh, this is worse than I thought. Run away, Nigel and Daniel. Run away from your virginity! Let the old man build all the cereal ships he wants, he's already stuck eating the same brand everyday. But for you, there are still options -- Lucky Charms, Raisin Nut Bran, Cookie Crisp, and, if you swing that way, Fruity Pebbles and Honey Bunches of Nuts. The point is, taste the different flavors before it's too late! Ha, you see what I did there? I used cereal as a metaphor for being sexually promiscuous. You just got your RDA of Literary Krispies!

Hit the jump for a picture of some ships and the man himself.

Jul 21 2008 Papercraft Fun Frustration: Batman's Tumbler

paper-tumbler-1.jpg

Ah, Papercraft. A hobby that involves two of my favorite pastimes: cutting things, and glue. Did I mention I huff glue? I huff glue. Did I mention I huff glue? Freaking love that stuff. Anyway, this is a Papercraft Tumbler. It looks complicated and I could never make it. Not in a hundred years. I could cut the tip of a finger off though. Or, if the price is right, a toe. "You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon...with nail polish." While I have no Papercraft skills, my roommate has been up for two days straight working on this thing. I just peeked in his room and he's passed out on a pile of dirty clothes with one ball hanging out the fly of his boxers. But the car looks finished. So while he's sleeping I'm gonna tape a couple fireworks to the back and shoot it down the street.

UPDATE: So it, uh, burnt up pretty quick.

Hit the jump for several more shots and a link to the PDF's if you want to make your own.

Feb 29 2008 C-3PO Papercraft Looks Good, Strung Out. I Could Never Make It In A Million Years

c3po-gold.jpg

This week's earlier Papercut Art really got me thinking about paper in a bad way. Needless to say I've been looking up Papercraft stuff since then and wishing I was more patient and skilled with my hands. But alas, God gave me club-hands and they're good for very little but playing Whac-A-Mole without the mallet. At least I can still look at these marvels of paper. Well, not technically, since I was born with peg-eyes. My girlfriend describes them to me though, and they sound super awesome. Except I can't really hear because God forgot to cut out my ear-holes, so she just punches me in Morse-code. You know, sometimes I wonder if life could get any better.

Three more cool Papercrafts after the jump, one of K-3PO (C-3's bastard cousin), one of the Links from 4 Swords, and a really clever one from Paper Gear Solid (which might be considered cardboardcraft).

Feb 27 2008 Papercut Art Is Stunning And Made Of Paper

papercut-2.jpg

Peter Callesen is an artist who cuts up paper into beautiful little things. Sort of like Papercraft, but he always uses the actual sheet from which the design was cut as part of the piece. They're all absolutely beautiful. I posted a few of my favorites, along with a link to the whole gallery after the jump, which is a must see. I really admire the time and patience this takes. I know, because I've tried to make Papercraft objects before and I sliced off a finger and glued my hand to my privates.

Several more pieces and a link to the gallery after the cut.

Jan 28 2008 V-12 Engine Made Entirely Out Of Paper

v12-paper-1.jpg

This V-12 four-stroke engine was constructed entirely out of paper -- 1,978 pieces to be exact. Weighing in at a little over 3 pounds, it certainly ranks as one of the lightest V-12s around. It also ranks as the one most likely to cause a serious paper cut. Perhaps the most amazing part of the whole thing is that it works -- producing a 13.5RPM crankshaft speed via 2 AA batteries. Over two years in the making it truly is a work of art. Well, it was until I filled it with gas and produced a spark. Then it was truly a fireball.

Several more pictures and a video of the action after the jump.

Oct 30 2007 Paper Master Chief Looks Better Than Mine

papercraft-master-chief.jpg

Billybob884 of deviantART has developed a Papercraft style Master Chief model. The final product "comes out to be 13" (33 cm) tall, has roughly 2,100 faces (+ ~800 for the gun), and is made up of 42 pieces (+ 10 for the gun)." If you want to give it a go follow the link and print out the instructions, PDF pieces, and grab the model file. They say it is not a model recommended for beginner paper-folders. And they weren't lying. Mine turned out a lot less like Master Chief and a lot more like a crumpled green paper turd that the cats are batting around.

Jul 27 2007 Bee Miniature Paper Sculpture

paper-bee.jpg

This is a miniature paper sculpture of a bee which stands at 6 cm tall and was designed and crafted by artist Elsita.

For the making of this bee I arranged 25 little pieces of paper that I carefully cut with a sharp knife and scissors. I gave volume to the pieces by pressing them from the backside with a wooden tool. Then the parts were glued together with professional acid free glue. The paper used is white 260 g/m smooth Bristol.

Each is hand made and will look slightly different. The artist is selling them for $49.50 each, which seems a little steep for something I could probably make myself. And by 'probably make myself' I mean crumple up some paper and glue it together and then start crying because it looks absolutely nothing like this.

Jul 13 2007 Super Mario Bros. Papercraft

paper-mario-7-2.jpg

This guy recreated World 7-3 from Super Mario Bros using Papercraft. Wait, did I say "guy"? I mean nerd. Big nerd. But a big nerd that's won a place in my heart.
