May 4 2009 Tattooed Barbie: You're No Daughter Of Mine!

Mattel's new 'Totally Stylin' Barbie doll comes with a bunch of sticker tattoos you can apply all over her forehead and neck to make her look way more totally stylin'. Make her a little R2-D2 backpack and that is one fine piece of plastic ass (note to self: verify Barbie's age before using this). Plus, the doll comes with a fake tattoo gun and ink tattoos so your daughters (and sons) can apply tattoos to themselves! Shockingly, some parents aren't cool with the idea.
Barbie-maker Mattel has said the tattooed Barbie provides a way for kids to "be creative" with the doll. Some parents, naturally, see it differently, suggesting that a "Totally Pierced Barbie" or a "Divorce Barbie" could come next.
As for the tattooed Barbie, Mattel says it's selling better than expected and there are no plans to pull it from the product lineup.
Personally, I don't care, but that may just be because I don't have any daughters. No, I'm the proud father of three very handsome boys (woman always on top). Just kidding. But now that you know how they're made, ladies?

Feb 11 2009 Finally, Zelda II Has Been Translated To Latin

Somebody went and translated all of Zelda II into Latin for the three people out there that might actually play it that way. They also did the original Zelda and Final Fantasy VI. Whee. As many of you may know, Zelda II is a sore subject for me because it's the only game in the entire series I haven't beat. And believe me, I've tried. I fire that sucker up and play through it at least twice a year AND STILL CAN'T DEFEAT THE LAST PALACE. So, anybody want to come over and beat it for me while I watch? The game too. HIYO!
Hit the jump for some more screenshots of the translated games.

Jan 25 2009 Revenge For Bicyclists: Handlebar Key Plugs

Are you a bicyclist that's tired of being cut off and hit by cars? Well get a pair of these handlebar key plugs and you can at least deface the perpetrator's car in the process of getting run over.
These modified handlebar plugs speak to the disgruntled urban cyclist. By retro-fitting stock parts with up-cycled keys, bikers can now find satisfaction with close encounters. This concept puts a new twist on the timeless tradition of car-keying revenge. By Matt Braun and Jared Delorenzo.
They cost $5 for a set of two and fit snugly into regular handlebars and assholes. But in all honesty, if I catch you keying my car I can and will kill you. I'm serious -- if you don't like the way I drive, stay off the sidewalk.
Hit the jump for a couple more shots.

Dec 10 2008 Craft Time!: Make Your Own Zombie Barbie

Want to make your own zombified Barbie doll? No problem. All it takes is some paint, a razor blade, some Sculpey, a regular Barbie doll, and some brains (!). Hit the jump to see the basic process, which is so simple even a zombie could do it (!). Ha, this reminds me of when I was a kid and I'd always steal my little sister's Barbies and rip their heads off and set them on fire. Without fail the brat would always threatening to tell mom on me. So you know what I did? I told her I'd murder her imaginary friend if she even thought about it. Love you Kaitlyn!
Hit it for a bunch more, including the process.

Dec 4 2008 Terrorist LEGO Minifigs Stir Controversy

I can't say that I'm surprised, but apparently people are taking offense to LEGO minifigs that have been modded (by BrickArms) to resemble terrorists and Nazis.
Mohammed Shaffiq of Muslim organisation The Ramadhan Foundation told The Sun the figures were 'absolutely disgusting'. He said: 'It is glorifying terrorism - the makers should be ashamed. We should be coming together to unite against terrorism but how is that possible when children are playing with toys like this?'
Last night the business's founder Will Chapman said: 'It's not my intention to glorify terrorism or Nazis - but kids love the bad guys. He added: 'I can see why people might get offended but that is not what I'm trying to do. We have sold thousands and thousands of them.'
He later added: 'CHA-CHING!'
When reached for comment, the Geekologie Writer had this to say about the figures: 'Finally, terrorists versus Nazis! PEW PEW.'
Hit the jump for a few more of the offensive minifigs.

Oct 7 2008 Wait, What?: A Smart Car Monster Truck
Somebody modded a Smart Car into a monster truck because, well, that's what people do. You come up with a really bad idea after a long night of drinking, and the next day you make your inebriated dream a reality. Trust me, it's the human condition.
Thanks to Tim, who has drawn up plans for a Big Wheels monster truck.
Sep 30 2008 My Little Pony Star Wars Characters

We've seen custom ponies in the past, and here comes another batch, heavy on the Star Wars. That's Princess Leia there, and there's a Darth Vader and Stormtrooper after the jump. They were all made by deviantart user Spippo, who sells them if you're interested. And as a guy who grew up playing with My Little Ponies, I must admit: I collected Cabbage Patch Dolls too. And one time I tried on my sister's bra.
Hit the jump for two more, along with a link to Spippo's gallery with even more Batman, Alien, Pan, Superman and Edward Scissorhands pony action.
Sep 18 2008 I'll Send An O.S. To The World, I'll Send An O.S. To The World, I Hope That Someone Gets My, I Hope That Someone Gets My, I Hope That Someone Gets My, Computer In A Bottle

Some guy, tired of little ships, decided to build a PC in a bottle. As you can see, it's pretty damn good looking. Inspired, I made my own and brought it into work to show off. Hold on, I'll take some pictures of it and post them after the....goddamnit, who drank my computer? Superficial Writer, I catch you pissing RAM and I'll kill you.
Hit the jump for a couple more.
Aug 14 2008 Audi R8 That Would Make James Bond Proud

Some guy who insists on remaining anonymous but whose name is Chris Donovan of Denver, Colorado (kidding) has customized an Audi R8 with a ton of ridiculous awesomeness.
The Audi R8 Blackbird is perfect for gadget lovers, sporting "four GPS units, two radar detectors, police scanner, CB radio, kill switch for all rear lights, and high-speed broadband Internet with Wi-Fi running on a tablet PC."
Oh, and did I mention it's packing a liquid cooled infrasonic wave-pulse generator (2:10 in the video) that can fry your balls? I think it's one of those things Basher Tarr used in Ocean's Eleven to zap all the power sources within its blast radius, but I could be wrong. All I know is that I don't want any kids right now, so blast away! I even lift the lead shield off my nuts when the dentist takes X-rays. Free birth control!
Hit the jump for a video walkthrough of the car and an (off-camera) explanation by its creator. Note: Dude is clearly no James Bond.

Apr 21 2008 Corolla Rocks NES Controller Engine Cover

This is a Corolla with a custom NES controller engine block cover. It looks good and I wish my piece of crap Metro had one. That would easily double the car's value. Now if entering the ↑ ↑ ↓ ↓ ← → ← → B A Konami code gave you 30 gallons of free gas, then we'd really be talking.

Apr 15 2008 Dope: Gold NES With Triforce Window Mod

Damnit, I hate it when this happens. You find a sick Nintendo painted the same gold as the original Zelda cartridges (if you don't know about those I'm afraid we can't be friends), complete with custom cut-out Triforce window on top, and, just my luck -- the freaking eBay auction has already ended! Woe is me. The console even has a green LED power button (as a tribute to Link's clothing), a yellow LED that makes the Triforce glow, and backlit Nintendo logos on the controllers. And it sold for $52 (plus $15 shipping)! Talk about a disappointment.
And you know what else is disappointing? The open bar situation at the wedding I went to this weekend. No liquor! All the beer and wine you wanted, but none of the good stuff. I couldn't believe it. How am I supposed to dance without some high-octane life juice? I was so desperate I almost drank a bottle of isopropyl alcohol I found in the supply closet. That said, after 14 beers and a couple glasses of wine I did actually make it out onto the dance floor. Except there was no dancing going on! I look up, and the next thing I know, I've caught the bouquet. Two bridesmaids team-punched me in the neck and tried to snatch it. So I gave them the ol' 1-2-roundhouse kick. Their dresses were hideous anyways.
If you're sad about the Nintendo not being available there's still this piece of crap available for $60.
The guy says the pictures suck because his camera is broken and he had to take them with his phone. More shit-quality photos, and a link to the auction, after the jump.

Jan 21 2008 Weighted Companion Case Mod Looks Good

Someone went and made a Companion Cube computer case from Portal. It looks good and is small (20cm). It's used as a web browsing and music computer, so there isn't anything too fancy on the inside. Unlike the doughnuts I had for breakfast, which were chock full of fanciness. And by fanciness I mean Bavarian cream.
A few more pictures and a link to the build through the portal.
Dec 4 2007 Wii Mod: Looks Less Like A White Box

Kypes, a modder on Acidmods, pimped out his Wii with a "black face and stand, clear sides, painted Disk Drive and LEDs". It's also got an "additional SD slot in the back, a built in Game Cube memory card, and a new light for the load slot." Not too shabby Kypes. But does your Wii play burnt Pop Tarts? Because I modded mine to. Well I haven't actually gotten it to read one yet, but I've definitely jammed a couple in. The only downside is it seems to have stopped playing regular disks.
A video of the modded Wii after the jump.
Dec 3 2007 Guitar Hero: Touchscreen & Magnetic Switch

Just last week I posted a guitar modded with an LCD screen, and now a modder that goes by Cyberpyrot has added a touchscreen and magnetic switch to a Guitar Hero III guitar. The touchscreen just shows whateve is on the TV, but since it takes up the space of the normal strum bar he added a magnetic switch under the body so that you play the bitch with a magnetic pick instead! You can also brush you fingers across the screen to control the whammy bar.
The mod took "about 3 days to make, and it wasn't really expensive: $108 for Guitar Hero III, $77 for the LCD, $44 for the touch panel and about $30 for miscellaneous items."
Next the dude wants to add optics to the system so it can play itself. And if there's one thing that's fun about video games it's watching them play themselves while you do jack-shit. Whee!
A couple more pictures after the jam session.

Nov 26 2007 Electric Guitar Laptop Mod Is Pretty Sweet

Ben Lewry, a guitar and computer lover, modded a laptop to fit inside an electric guitar. It's called the LCDetar. Which is not the best name, but far better than Guitard. The laptop inside features a trippy music visualization program that responds to whatever you're playing on the guitar. Good job Ben, the thing looks sweet. As a matter of fact, it may be the best laptop mod I've ever seen. Well, except for the ukulele one I made last year. Ho ho, gotcha Ben! Ukulele laptop FTW. Better luck next time buddy.
A couple more pictures and two videos of it in action after the jam session.

Nov 26 2007 Man Takes Computer Cooling Way Too Far

Ever seen a computer case made out of cooling fans? Well here it is. Peter Edge made this case out of 66 individual case fans. The computer inside is "an Intel P4 3GHz Prescott CPU with MSI MS-6540 motherboard, 512MB DDR400 RAM, 40GB ATA HDD, and a 36xCDROM." Seems kind of overkill for a computer with those specs. I was expecting something a little bit more serious on the inside, Peter. That computer would run fine with a pillow smothering it. Under a pile of blankets. On fire.

Nov 15 2007 Handcarved Wood PC Looks Wooden, Scary

Valerie Beetle, a man from Pervomayske (probably where I should live) in southern Ukraine handcarved this PC case. It is wood and looks good. Now I'm all for cool computer mods and all, but I think we all know the true story behind this one. This man sold his soul to the devil for a custom wooden PC. The demonic accents were all the devil's idea -- Mr. Beetle actually asked for a unicorn climbing a rainbow over Strawberry Mountain. That's just what happens when you deal with the devil. Don't believe me? Just check out the pictures after the jump, particularly the one featuring Mr. Beetle's face. He might very well be the devil.
Two more pictures after the prayer.
Nov 13 2007 Steampunk Laptop Looks Old, Works

We've posted steampunk laptops in the past, and while this one doesn't quite have the extreme bad-assness as the first, it does work and can actually be closed and transported easily. I like the key there next to the left wrist-pad, I think that's a nice touch. I bet it unlocks a vintage porn stash, which is awesome. I wish my laptop had one of those, right next to Caps Lock. I love vintage porn. I think. If the women aren't hairy.
Four more pics after the time travel.
Oct 25 2007 One-Handed Controller For Serious Baters

Ben Heck, a man who loves modding, has produced the "Access Controller", which is a controller for the XBox 360 that you can use with one hand.
You lay this controller on your leg, table or arm of a chair and all the buttons are available on the top surface. The gag is that each of the five sections is removable and you can plug them anywhere you want. This not only makes the controller work for both left and right handed use (simply mirror the layout) but it also allows the user to optimize the button placement on a game-by-game basis.
Now when I first saw this I got really excited. Not because I have any interest in playing video games one-handed, because why the hell would I want to do that. No, I was excited because I thought it was a flask. I mean really, what good is a f'ing one-handed controller if it can't sneak booze into college football games.
Two more pictures after the jump.

Oct 15 2007 Sky Puter Case Mod Provides Good Airflow

The Sky Puter is one of the sweetest case mods (or lack thereof) I've seen in a long time. Sure there have been some pretty sweet cases in the past, but I think it's safe to say this one takes the cake. All pieces of the computer are suspended from cat5 or cat3 cable. Add a 20-inch box fan and your piece will be running at near sub-zero temperatures. Did I mention I actually think it looks like crap? I actually think it looks like crap. Novel concept though. I'll give it that. I like the coat hangers and speaker.
A couple more after the jump.
