Oct 11 2009 Speak For Yourself: Scientists Claim We Would Never Survive A Zombie Apocalypse

zombies.jpg

According to a couple of Canadian researchers, the human race could never weather a zombie uprising. Pfft, speak for yourselves, Canucks -- I'M A SURVIVOR!

Based on models of rampant infectious diseases, say researchers, civilization would be doomed if we were ever attacked by zombies.

If society were ever attacked by zombies, we would probably be doomed, and quickly. That was the conclusion of two university researchers in Ottawa, Ontario, who set up mathematical models hypothesizing zombie attacks as infectious diseases with the well-known characteristics of zombie biology from popular fiction. In fact, according to a July BBC News report, zombies are more threatening than virulent diseases because they can regenerate (unless decapitated or incinerated, of course). More troubling was the researchers' presumption that zombies move slowly, as in older movies, but in recent fiction, they're super-quick, making them nearly invincible.

Oh man, as much as I do respect a couple of Canadians with calculators plugging away at a mathematical model they created using the info they gathered from Shawn of the Dead and Zombieland, this is one blogger who isn't succumbing to the zombie apocalypse. Robot, sure, but not zombies.

Thanks to Gideon, who isn't going out in any sort of apocalypse. Except perhaps a sexpocalypse. Just kidding!

Sep 25 2009 They're Hugging Me!: Teddy Bear Jacket

teddybear-1.jpg

This is a jacket made out of teddy bears from artist/designer Sebastian Errazuriz (who also brought us the zipper dress). I like it, it looks really comfortable. Now I know what you're thinking, "I bet that son of a bitch GW still sleeps with a teddy bear!" AND SO WHAT IF I DO? I bet yooooou still sleep with your parents! Kidding, I'd know if you did. HIYO! Your dad's a snorer.

Hit the jump for a couple more sexy shots. I can't help it, I love bears!

Sep 24 2009 But It'll Scare All My Garden Gnomes Away!: Super Mario Piranha Plant Lawn Ornament

piranha-plant-1.jpg

DeviantARTist Kalupsa went and made an incredibly detailed (and frightening) Super Mario Piranha Plant lawn ornament out of modeling clay. And I think we can all agree, it's scary as shit. I sure as hell wouldn't water it, if you know what I mean. I'm talking about try to piss on it. NOT a good idea.

Hit the jump for a couple more shots and a video of how it was made.

Aug 1 2009 Geekologie Reader Makes Plasticine iPhone

plasticine-iphone.jpg

Geekologie loyalist Mark went and made an iPhone out of Placticine modeling clay. Now I know what you're thinking, and I agree -- JUST LIKE THE REAL THING! Granted, people have already made iPhones out of all sorts of stuff, but, quite frankly, those people don't read Geekologie. Or if they do they don't write telling me how much they like me and how awesome I am. FLATTERY PAYS, FOLKS. And, amazingly, blogging.

What you see is the result of a bored day at work plus a box of plasticine. The colours are a bit messed up as we only had yellow, red, orange, green and blue.... the rest we had to mix up.

(sorry I didn't add a dinosaur app to it)

So here's what you do: you ask to borrow somebody's real iPhone, and then, once you have it in hand, you slyly turn away and then replace it with this one. Then make ringing sounds until they try to pick up! HAHAHAHAHA -- good times.

Thanks Mark, now make me a dinosaur. Go on, you promised.

Mar 27 2009 Man Builds Large Wooden Dino From Model

wood dino 1.jpg

You know those little wooden models with the interlocking pieces? Yeah, well loyal Geekologie reader Vinss's father blew one of a dinosaur up to a much larger, more manageable size.

My father scanned each piece of one and scaled the pieces to a large scale in Photoshop, printed them out and then drew them on plywood planks, cutting them and then assembling them to form a giant version of it.

I hope it's interesting for you. If ever this makes it to the blog, we're a family from Quebec, Canada.

As for general feedback (in the same family as General Grievous), I really like this blog, it's always very interesting. The only thing I dislike is how you have to make everything vulgar. Anyhow, personal opinion. Keep up the great gadgets and stuff.

I'm trying, Vinss, but you're not making it easy with a dinosaur post. I mean, that's like asking [FAILURE TO KEEP IT CLEAN]. Seriously, I have joined a 12-step program though. The only problem is, a chick in one of the meetings was wearing a 'I Heart Dinosaurs' shirt and I lost my cool and [FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL] in front of the whole group. Then they all looked at me like I was some kind of weirdo. *phew* There, I think i did it. Now somebody put on The Land Before Time, I'm beat.

Hit the jump for several more of the awesome.

Mar 16 2009 They're After Our Skinny Coke Whores!: Japanese Unveil Robotic Fashion Model

fashion robot.jpg

Developed by Japan's National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (JAJINAS), HRP-4C is a robot designed to walk, talk, and work a catwalk like the sexy little vixen harbinger of death that she is.

Standing at just over 5-feet tall and 95-pounds....the she-bot features 30 motors spread throughout its body with an additional eight motors in its face for expressing general boredom and disgust with the help. Its main purpose is entertainment and to attract crowds much like its fleshy counterparts -- so don't expect home cooked meals and laundry service should you take the $200,000 robot home.

As is evident from the photo, that guy is a demented pervert. IT'S A ROBOT, BRO -- HER ASS IS METAL. Some people, I swear. So anyway, like I was saying: I hid in a bathroom stall at the Museum of Natural History this weekend until it closed and then had my way in the Hall of Dinosaurs. Best weekend EVER.

Hit the jump for another picture and a video proving why this is the worst model ever.

Feb 24 2009 Okay, Sure: A Golden AT-AT iPod Dock

ipod atat 1.jpg

Not to be outdone by yesterday's AT-AT boombox, some cat went and made an AT-AT iPod dock. Which is basically an AT-AT toy with an electronic turntable glued to the side and spray painted gold. Neat. Might be just the thing I need to add a little geeky flair to my bedroom. Just saying, I made buttermilk pancakes for breakfast. With sprinkles, bitches. Who's gangster?

Hit the jump for two closeups.

Jan 30 2009 Augmented Reality Coming To LEGO Retailers

lego-augmented-reality.jpg

We've already seen several examples of augmented reality here on Geekologie. Some sexier than others. And now the technology may be coming to everybody's favorite modular plastic blocks -- LEGO!

LEGO will apparently be rolling out these new 'Digital Box' kiosks to select toyshops around the world that allow you to see a 3D representation of what the LEGO model looks like when fully assembled. The kiosk uses a built-in video camera and custom augmented reality software developed by a German company called Metaio, and because the model exists in 3D, you're able to interactively turn and move it around to see it from all sides.

Sweet! I've always had trouble telling what a LEGO set will look like when it's finished because I usually end up with a belly full few pieces. So this won't help at all. But still, they should use this technology for something more practical -- like microwaveable meals. Am I right? Yes, now hit the jump to see my lunch.

Jan 13 2009 Over And Out: LEGO Making Digital Cameras, Walk Talkies For Children, Adults Like Me

lego-camera.jpg

Modular plastic god LEGO has "teamed with Digital Blue to bring out a line of digital cameras, PMPs (portable media players), and walkie talkies for children". Dropping sometime this summer, the devices will run $19 - $60 and not be made of actual LEGO blocks. They'll look like it though. And looking, my friends, is half the battle. Touching is the other, trickier half.

Lego announces line of digital cameras, PMPs, etc. for your teeny human friends

Thanks to Julian, who once convinced a model to let him take nude pictures of her with an alleged LEGO camera. It was just a castle set.

Dec 8 2008 Amazing Battlestar Galactica Case Mod

bgat-1.jpg

There are case mods, and then there are case mods. And then there's this Battlestar Galactic case by L337 modder Boddaker.

This liquid-cooled work of art has a numerous video screens, a side window hidden by a servo-controlled door, and a slot-loading DVD drive that lets you see its disc spinning through its semi-transparent front.

Freaking amazing. You've really got to see the rest of the pictures and video after the jump to fully appreciate the case. Boddaker clearly has some wicked modding skills. AND modeling skills. Dude can really strut his stuff on the catwalk like nobody's business. In all seriousness though, I'm too sexy for my shirt.

Hit it for the rest of the amazingosity.

Sep 3 2008 Star Trek Set Built Out Of Rice Krispie Boxes

rice-crispies-1.jpg

Mmmm, looks delicious, doesn't it? Sure does. Self proclaimed Trekkie and Krispie Bob Prior built various Star Trek sets out of Rice Krispie boxes. Why? Because they're goddamn delicious, that's why.

His 50 models include the Starship Enterprise, its command bridge and captains James T Kirk and Jean-Luc Picard.

The car park attendant, who says his favorite characters are Kirk, Scotty and McCoy, took six months to put together his cardboard collection, and roped in sons Nigel, 25, and Daniel, 20.

Uh-oh, this is worse than I thought. Run away, Nigel and Daniel. Run away from your virginity! Let the old man build all the cereal ships he wants, he's already stuck eating the same brand everyday. But for you, there are still options -- Lucky Charms, Raisin Nut Bran, Cookie Crisp, and, if you swing that way, Fruity Pebbles and Honey Bunches of Nuts. The point is, taste the different flavors before it's too late! Ha, you see what I did there? I used cereal as a metaphor for being sexually promiscuous. You just got your RDA of Literary Krispies!

Hit the jump for a picture of some ships and the man himself.

Aug 15 2008 The 2008 Olympics: Now In LEGO Form

olympics-1.jpg

This is the Olympic village made entirely out of LEGO. It was recently on display in Hong Kong to get everyone excited about the games and contains over 300,000 blocks and 4,500 minifigs. Hit the jump for a whole bunch more, including a damn good looking Water Cube. You know, I was so inspired by the work that went into this that I decided to write my congressman about getting a medal above the gold awarded in the Olympics. This medal, of course, would be LEGO. Pretty great idea, huh? Well that's what I thought -- but you know what he wrote back? "Stop writing me about all your stupid freaking ideas." Can you believe that? He said the exact same thing about the possibility of getting my likeness on a coin. What a dick!

Hit it for a bunch more.

Aug 14 2008 That's Freaking Huge!: Scale Model Shanghai

shanghai-1.jpg

This is a scale model of what Shanghai will look like in 2020 if they complete all the buildings slated to be up by that time. The model takes up over 1,000 square feet and resides on the third floor of the Shanghai Urban Planning Museum. Pretty impressive Shanghai, but I completed a much larger scale model years ago. It was 1:2 scale replica of one of my nuts. Sadly, it was too big to display in the backyard. And that, students, is where the moon came from. This concludes your astronomy lesson for the day, tomorrow: how I invented black holes.

Hit the jump for several more worthwhile shots of the model.

Jul 1 2008 Urban Lounge Gear: The SumoSac

sumo-sac-1.jpg

From Sumo Lounge, the same company that brought us the Omni Chair, comes the SumoSac. I personally have one, and it's awesome. And I'm not just saying that because I want to get in good with the company so they'll send me that model's number, but I do think we'd make a good couple. Anyway, SumoSac review in three words: comfortable as hell.

I have the 6 foot model (top right, middle right), but they also come in 5 foot (top left, bottom right) and 4 foot models (bottom left). They'll run you $229, $199, and $179, respectively, and all come with free shipping.

An improved version of the beanbag chair, SumoSac is a more savvy, stylish & comfortable alternative. This product will never decompress & is truly the most comfortable chair in the world at 3ft. high & 6ft. wide covered in micro suede. Made with 100% shredded furniture grade urethane foam. Covers zip-off for machine washing.

They're really not lying about it being the most comfortable thing in the world. I've gamed in it, blogged in it, slept in it, passed out drunk in it, caught the pets curled up in it, gotten intimate with a lady-friend in it, and even hidden underneath it when my girlfriend came home while the aforementioned lady-friend was still there. Needless to say I pretended I was a big, soft-shelled turtle watching a catfight. Unfortunately, I couldn't operate the video camera with my flippers.

Hit the jump for a couple more pictures.

May 23 2008 My New Favorite Website: Knicker Pickers

knicker-pickers.jpg

Knicker Pickers is my new favorite website. It's a virtual dressing room for intimate wear (read: bras and panties!). I posted a picture of a sportswear selection there, but that's only because I was looking for the most SFW screencap I could find. I've been perusing the site for several months, and can remember when they only had three models. Well now they have five and the site is better than ever! You just pick whatever delicates you want the model to wear, and then you can make her turn around, come closer, come closer and then turn around, and walk away. It's awesome. I mean I'd never buy anything from the freaking site, but that hasn't stopped me from seeing every outfit. Even my girlfriend likes it. And by "likes it" I mean she makes me tell her how imperfect the girls look and how beautiful she is. The same thing she used to do at strip clubs until I started leaving her in the car. Now I know what you feminists are thinking, and yes, I leave a window cracked if I'm parked in the sun.

May 21 2008 LEGO Guns Look Dangerous, But Aren't

mp5.jpg

BrickGun makes LEGO kits that resemble real guns. The company is not to be confused with Brickarms, which makes little guns for LEGO figures. And unlike Forbidden LEGO sets, these won't actually shoot anything. But hey, they still look like guns.

We are the world leader in custom Lego weapon models. We specialize in creating the coolest, most realistic kits that can be built using genuine Lego parts. Each model is life-sized, with accurate dimensions and details. They feature functioning mechanics such as triggers, hammers, slides, safeties and magazines so they not only look like the real thing, they work like the real thing as well.

Yeah, they work just like the real thing. You know, except firing anything. But seriously, that's only a small part of a gun's function anyways. The MP5 kit was a limited edition set and is already sold out, but they still have plenty of Berettas, Glocks and Desert Eagle models (see pictures of these after the jump). All kits range in price from $40 - $60. And honestly, what could be cooler than owning a LEGO gun? Besides, oh I don't know, cutting the grass with a really shitty old mower because your wife won't let you buy a ride-on model. God I hate cutting the grass. Don't some people just like burn their lawn or something?

UPDATE: Oh f***. I'll man the garden hose, you call the fire department. Just tell them you're with The Geekologie Writer, they'll know what to do.

Pictures of all the models after the jump.

Jan 24 2008 I'm In Love With The Day-To-Night Solar Dress

awesome-dress.jpg

Well we've posted unusual dresses (must watch if you haven't seen it before) and solar bikinis here in the past, and now there's a solar dress making its way down the runway.

The Day-For-Night dress is a modular, reconfigurable dress comprised of 448 white circuit boards (although the number changes as the dress can get longer or shorter). Each tile is designed in such a way as to accommodate a solar cell, a RGB LED, or a photocell, and jumper connectors (in the form of 0 Ohm resistors). A control board provides power, communicates with the tiles, and links to a computer via RF. The dress is completely modular both in terms of software and hardware.

To be honest I have no idea what that means because I didn't bother reading it. I just copied and pasted it there with the hope that it would make sense and answer any questions you may have. I apologize, but I've been preoccupied with staring at the picture. I think I'm in love with that model. She's just the way I like my women -- leggy, scantily clad, and faceless from the nose up. Yow Yow!! Did I really just yell that? You're damn right I did, and I meant it.

Dec 11 2007 Star Wars AT-AT Wins Modeling Contest

awesome-at-at.jpg

Dimitri Kaliviotis made a badass AT-AT model that recently won a "wreck" themed modeling contest. As you can see, the 1/32 scale AT-AT has certainly seen better days.

This entry is a heavily modified ATATRON kit. The ATATRON kit is a garage kit which is not commercially available but a few models have been made over the years. I managed to get hold of one because I was commissioned to put some finishing touches on the prototype model and to make the molds for it, so later I was given one of the castings as a “bonus gift”. However the ATATRON I got was one containing mostly reject cast pieces. So Instead of repairing the reject/miscasts I decided to use those imperfections in my favor.

I too use my imperfections in my favor. Instead of being bummed out about how ugly I am and crying about the face God gave me, I turned the situation around and got a great gig scaring kids in the "Haunted House of Disfigured Freaks" at the county fair. I get $5.50 an hour too. Here's to living the high life!

A TON more pictures after the jump, because I'm sure you've all been good girls and boys this year.

Jul 18 2007 Full Scale Gundam Robot

gundam-robot.jpg

Some folks in Japan took it upon themselves to make a full scale, 59-feet-tall Gundam robot. I can't tell out if they're going to leave it on the ground or prop it up standing, but I can tell you one thing: this is madness! Beautiful, beautiful, madness. You can't tell, but a single tear is rolling down my cheek right now.

Apr 19 2007 Star Wars papercraft figurines

papercraft-star-wars.jpgPiro model has instructions on how to create your own papercraft Star Wars mini figurines. Assuming, of course, you can either read Japanese or are really good at deciphering stuff. Personally, I thought these were instructions on how to hoola hoop.
