Nov 16 2009 The Sky Is Falling!: Leonid Meteor Shower Peaks Tonight/Early Tommorrow Morning
For those of you that like to get high and lie in the middle of a field staring up, the Leonid meteor shower is supposed to reach its peak tonight from 1AM to dawn. Great, I'll be hiding in the back of the hallway closet waiting for the apocalypse. It, uh, is 2012, right?
The best seats are in Asia, but North American observers should be treated to an above average performance of the Leonid meteor shower, weather permitting. The trick for all observers is to head outside in the wee hours of the morning - between 1 a.m. and dawn - regardless where you live.
"We're predicting 20 to 30 meteors per hour over the Americas, and as many as 200 to 300 per hour over Asia," said Bill Cooke of NASA's Meteoroid Environment Office. Other astronomers who work in the nascent field of meteor shower prediction have put out similar forecasts.
Listen, I've been disappointed by these things before. Those NASA Meteoroidoligists are almost as bad as the cloud and rain ones. Still, I recommend everyone that hasn't seen the Leonid Shower to get out there and check it out. Me? I'm holding out for the Girl's Locker Room Shower.

This handmade bed blanket was created by Etsy seller punzie and looks great (punzie also does custom work and has a bunch of other designs if you look in the sold items section). Granted, it would look even better with you underneath it. I'm not talking dead hooker style either, I'm talking real romantical like. What do you say, come over around 8? We'll fire up some oldschool NES, drink some sparkling cider (my parents don't allow alcohol in the house) and then retire to my luxurious twin-size. Oooh, you like a little role playing, do you? Well then, let me just slip into my Raccoon Mario costume. Okay, now pretend you're a garbage can.

Mar 25 2009 Sure, Why Not?: Turning The 8-Bit Gameboy Metroid Into A 16-Bit Full Color Version
Remember when Metroid II: Return of Samus came out for the Gameboy (1992)? I remember it like it was yesterday because I have a time machine and may or may not have stopped in the early 90's on my way back from the Jurassic era (best singles cruise EVER). Anyway, Project AM2R (Another Metroid 2 Remake) was undertaken to turn the 8-bit Gameboy game into a 16-bit, full color joint. This is a video demo, which I'm not afraid to admit gave me a nostalgic boner. Did somebody just say pogs? *BOING!*

Mar 12 2009 I'm In Love: New Samus Cosplay Girl *Swoon*
Sweet mother of Metroid, will you look at that. In competition for sexiest Samus Aran ever is deviantartist and cosplayer Yukilefay (26-year-old Thaís Jussim). What do you think? How does she compare to the current reigning Samus? I have to admit, I was hoping she'd have a Zero Suit too, like Jenni did. Regardless, great freaking job.
The beast of a bounty hunter suit is lit by 73 battery powered LEDs and set Jussim back $350 in material costs.
Jussim, who created the suit with the help of friends and family, says the suit weighs about 23 pounds and is surprisingly not very comfortable. Who would have guessed. Jussim also reveals that there's, uh... Zero Suit Samus cosplay in the works, by the way. It's her next project.
Oh snap -- I hadn't even read that when I was writing the opener. Hot damn! I will have to reserve final judgment then until after I see the Zero Suit. But for right now, at least according to the bone-ometer, Jenni's still up by a head length.

Nov 3 2008 Samus Cake Is Mmmm, Nom Nom Nom
If there's two things I love in life it's Zelda and cake. And women. And long walks on the beach and off short piers. Did I mention beer? It's in the top two. Along with my dog and stimulating conversations. Oh snap, and road trips. Anyway, this is a Super Metroid cake made to look like the lovely Samus Aran's head. Or helmet rather. Allegedly it's a wedding cake, but I find it a little hard to believe there's a woman out there cool enough to let this fly on her special day. Which can only mean one thing: gay marriage. Congrats guys!

Aug 18 2008 Yes Please!: Samus Aran's Zero Suit
As a guy who was raised on Metroid and just finished Corruption on the Wii last week, I have a special fondness for Samus Aran. And it's not just that sexy beam-cannon she sports either, although it certainly helps. Well, here's the same chick (whose name is Jenni Källberg and actually made the suit) that we saw previously in the entire Varia suit, but this time sporting Samus' more basic Zero Suit. Which, incidentally, I got to see at the end of Corruption because I went for 100% completion. I probably wouldn't have though if a friend hadn't told me I'd get to see her naked. That guy, such a prankster. I choked him to death with the nunchuck cable.

May 29 2008 Goofy Suit Is Actually A Musical Instrument
The Pacer Suit is a musical instrument that looks like a goofy spacesuit (because that's what it is) that I would never, ever wear -- not even if I lost a bet (I'd just renege and let them beat me up or cut my fingers off).
The Pacer suit receives electro impulses that appear when muscles are activated (movement), amplifies them and turns them into sound with the help of the sensors attached to muscles. Each impulse is goes through the sensors via amplifiers (boxes on the back) to control panel where we can control volume, type of sound, select rhythm to follow...With this suit it is possible to produce harmonious rhythm and melody by dancing. These sounds can be heard through headphones connected to the control panel (box on the front) or through the speakers connected to the control panel by infrared rays.
That's pretty neat. I bet it sounds awesome too. And by awesome I mean worse than my girlfriend's incessant blathering about how much she hates her coworkers. Speaking of which, she just pulled up. Later folks -- I'm diving out a window and running to the bar.
