Oct 27 2009 World's Largest LEGO Mario Up On eBay

mario.jpg

You probably already know this because you searched "giant LEGO Mario" on eBay this morning, but for those of you that didn't, the world's largest LEGO Mario statue is for sale on eBay.

Biggest Lego-Mario in the World - (Size over 5 ft 9 / 70.8 in)

Game Mania Started the build of this statue with aid of a professional Lego builder 2 weeks before officially revealing it at the LEGO WORLD fair 22nd October 2009. This statue measures 70.87 inch (5.9 ft / 180 cm), contains more than 40.000 Lego bricks and weights over 110 lb (50 kg).

Profit will be donated to charity: The Ronald McDonald House Charity in The Netherlands.

Mario has been completely glued together so he doesn't arrive like that pre-built LEGO castle I ordered and is currently at €3,250 (~$4,800). Anybody own an arcade? Because I think he'd look great standing outside an arcade (not unlike a cigar store Indian). Haha, like arcades even exist anymore! Wait -- what do you mean your mall has one? ZOMG CAN YOU GET YOUR MOM TO DRIVE US?!

Hit the jump for a couple more shots and a link to the auction.

Oct 21 2009 Stop Motion Of Papercraft Link Construction

This is a little stop motion video of a papercrafter constructing a Link model. The model is amazing, and so is the build, so you should check it out. But you shouldn't check out library books that will get you blacklisted. Or women on the street. BECAUSE I AM AGAINST THE OBJECTIFICATION OF WOMEN. Women are people too, you know. Except those crazy bodybuilding ones. They're wild animals.

Thanks to Jessica, who once made a papercraft model of the Geekologie Writer and then burn it as an effigy. Gee, thanks.

Oct 13 2009 I Said Protect The Leftovers!: Plasticdragon

plastidragon.jpg

Raise you hand if you like dragons. Whoa, that's a lot of hands. Okay, let's try this -- raise you hand if you don't like dragons. What the hell's the matter with you -- HOW CAN YOU NOT LIKE DRAGONS!? What about Falkor the Luck Dragon? Yeah, I bet you feel stupid now, don't you? Well you should. Anyway, meet Plasticdragon. He's best friends with Metaldragon. Unfortunately, they had a falling out with Leatherdragon, which is a shame because dude's cool as shit.

A Dragon made entirely out of Plastic Kitchen Utencils (Spoons, Knives, Forks abd cups glued together using a glue gun)

approx 80 hours
material cost: all from 99 cent store

completely freestyle - no plans/blueprints/drafts

Plasticdragon was made by DeviantARTist ~toge-NYC and protects leftovers in the breakroom from hungry coworkers. Which is a good idea. Just sayin', you ever been stabbed with a plastic fork before? You have? Jesus, what were the circumstances?

Thanks to sham, who doesn't need a dragon to guard her leftovers because she booby traps the fridge. Smart.

May 18 2009 Geekologie Reader Make USB Gluestick

usb glue 1.jpg

Young Geekologie Reader Izzy Slypig went and made himself a 1GB gluestick flashdrive. It rotates up and out of the container as you twist the bottom. That is all. But, if you've ever wanted to steal computer files from preschool, now's your chance.

Hit the jump for three more shots of the drive in various states of twist.

Apr 6 2009 I Like The Sound Of That: Huffable Chocolate

huffing chocolate.jpg

Normally I'm an airplane glue kind of guy, but hey, chocolate could be good. Good mixed with airplane glue! That's what I'm talkin' about -- double fist style! Anyway, Le Whif breathable chocolates are supposed to give you the same sensations as eating chocolate, but probably nowhere near as good. An analogy: Breathable chocolate:chocolate::porn:sex. With both breathable chocolate and porn you get no ass! ZA-ZA-ZA-ZING!

Over the centuries we've been eating smaller and smaller quantities at shorter and shorter intervals," says (David) Edwards who, coincidentally (yeah, right) has a new novel out at the same time. It seemed to us that eating was tending toward breathing, so, with a mix of culinary art and aerosol science, we've helped move eating habits to their logical conclusion. We call it whiffing.

No, we call it huffing, Dave. Whiffing is when you try to punch somebody and miss. If you're interested, Le Whif huffgun shells are available in chocolate, mint chocolate, chocolate raspberry and chocolate mango and sell for about $4 a pop. No word on how much huff you get out of a single canister, but if I had to guess, I'd say one...two...three... *CRUNCH* three.

Hit the jump for a video of some bicycle-seat whiffing in action.

Jan 28 2009 Make Your Own LEGO Valve Steam Caps

lego-valve-cap.jpg

Want to make your own LEGO valve stem caps for your full-scale LEGO car? No problem. Take a LEGO block, hollow it out, glue in a regular cap, and PRESTO, some jerk steals them within the first week. Which reminds me, remember when you used to steal the hood ornaments off luxury cars and wear them as a necklace? Well I still do that.

Hit the jump for another picture in case you're dying to know what one looks like on the inside (who isn't?!)

Jan 19 2009 Wood Is Good: A Scrabble Keyboard

scrabble-1.jpg

Ever wondered what a keyboard would look like if it had Scrabble tiles for keys? This. Finally, you can sleep at night.

This keyboard was commissioned by a couple of friends of mine from back east (NJ) who are avid Scrabble players. Most of the keys are made from real Scrabble tiles that were all hand-beveled (truly an exercise in patience/masochism!) and built onto a USB, clicky, mechanical-switch keyboard. This keyboard was going into a Mac environment so I decided to use brushed aluminum for the casing and round all of the corners to keep with the sleek, simple Macintosh styling. Near the end of the build, I decided that the keyboard looked a little too minimalist so I added some silver hardware and a seam to put a slightly industrialized twist on the design.

Alternatively, glue Scrabble tiles to your current keyboard. Just make sure you put the correct letters on. O YJOML O YXDEW IT IO! That's a bingo, count it.

Hit the jump for a bunch of closeups.

Dec 22 2008 Instant Decorating: The Christmas Cannon

If there's one thing I hate about Christmas it's that fat bastard Santa and his lack of presentry for yours truly. I swear, you write one too many dirty jokes and the boubon-soaked skeezeball (trust me, I could smell his breath when I sat on his lap at the mall in '85. Also, I'm now spreading a rumor he touched my butt) passes your apartment. If there's another thing, it's decorating. It's time consuming, and, come May, you have to take everything down again. That's why the Christmas Cannon is so genius. You just lather something in glue, pump up the cannon, and BAM -- you just Christmas'd that shit. It's as easy as shooting yourself in the foot trying to shoot fish in a barrel. Which, haha, is easier than you think (read: I'm missing two toes and have to wear a special shoe).

Nov 24 2008 Bullets And Paper Cuts: Hellboy's Samaritan

paper-gun-1.jpg

This is a papercraft model of Hellboy's revolver, the Samaritan. It's pretty freaking wicked and features a working hinge, loadable bullets, and complicated instructions. Hit the jump to see another pictures of the intricacy. But if there's one thing I've learned during my brief tenure on this planet we call f***ed, it's this: don't ever bring a paper gun to a knife fight -- you're gonna get stabbed.

Hit the link for the 14-page printable instructions.

Sep 9 2008 Make Your Own Mario Hat -- From Paper!

mario-paperhat.jpg

Always wanted Mario's iconic red cap but hate fabric? Well how about a paper one? That's right folks -- for the low, low price of some paper, printer ink, and Band-Aids you too can have your very own Mario cap. Looks too complicated for me though. The last time I made a paper hat it broke and my girlfriend got pregnant.

Jul 21 2008 Papercraft Fun Frustration: Batman's Tumbler

paper-tumbler-1.jpg

Ah, Papercraft. A hobby that involves two of my favorite pastimes: cutting things, and glue. Did I mention I huff glue? I huff glue. Did I mention I huff glue? Freaking love that stuff. Anyway, this is a Papercraft Tumbler. It looks complicated and I could never make it. Not in a hundred years. I could cut the tip of a finger off though. Or, if the price is right, a toe. "You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. Hell, I can get you a toe by 3 o'clock this afternoon...with nail polish." While I have no Papercraft skills, my roommate has been up for two days straight working on this thing. I just peeked in his room and he's passed out on a pile of dirty clothes with one ball hanging out the fly of his boxers. But the car looks finished. So while he's sleeping I'm gonna tape a couple fireworks to the back and shoot it down the street.

UPDATE: So it, uh, burnt up pretty quick.

Hit the jump for several more shots and a link to the PDF's if you want to make your own.

Feb 29 2008 C-3PO Papercraft Looks Good, Strung Out. I Could Never Make It In A Million Years

c3po-gold.jpg

This week's earlier Papercut Art really got me thinking about paper in a bad way. Needless to say I've been looking up Papercraft stuff since then and wishing I was more patient and skilled with my hands. But alas, God gave me club-hands and they're good for very little but playing Whac-A-Mole without the mallet. At least I can still look at these marvels of paper. Well, not technically, since I was born with peg-eyes. My girlfriend describes them to me though, and they sound super awesome. Except I can't really hear because God forgot to cut out my ear-holes, so she just punches me in Morse-code. You know, sometimes I wonder if life could get any better.

Three more cool Papercrafts after the jump, one of K-3PO (C-3's bastard cousin), one of the Links from 4 Swords, and a really clever one from Paper Gear Solid (which might be considered cardboardcraft).

Dec 17 2007 Canned Air - For Huffers And Other Deviates

canned-air.jpg

I love huffing model airplane glue as much as the next guy, but this product is ridiculous. Big Ox is canned oxygen that comes in flavors like Citrus Blast, Mountain Mint, Polar Rush, and Tropical Breeze. Each 3.5 gram can of "power oxygen" costs $9.99 and will guarantee you a seat in the principal's office if you bring it to school. I remember when oxygen bars were all the rage, and I never thought they were cool. And neither is someone hunched over on the bus with a bottle of Big Ox in their face. What is cool you ask? Doing whipits at the grocery store with the whip cream cans. Fun, free, and classy.
