Feb 9 2009 Cake!: Rocking Out With Your (Wedding) Band

Ed (not Norton) and Ursula (not from The Little Mermaid) recently got married and decided to tie the knot with a Rock Band themed wedding cake. As you can see, it's a not very 3D drum set. Wow -- I hope you stoned the baker, because I would have demanded that thing stand up. But seriously, congratulations couple, and Ed -- you can kiss your fantasy about a life of meaningless sex with groupies goodbye. As the tour bus leaves the arena, a guitar pick falls silently to the asphalt.
Sep 25 2008 Play The Drums -- On Your Shirt!
That's right folks, ThinkGeek is selling this $30 Drumkit T-shirt so you can rock out with your high-hat out anywhere you go.
Hit the drums on this shirt with your finger and they play through the built in speaker... simple but amazing. With 7 different drum sounds you're ready for a personal drum solo on your chest.
Hell yes, personal drum solo on my chest! Any of you lovely ladies interested in a duet?
Thanks to Brad and Sarah, who don't need drums to know how to rock.
Jun 19 2008 Robotic Band Actually Plays Pretty Well
While not as cute as the lovable little robot drummer, The Trons actually play with four part harmony...and feeling. The best thing about robotic bands is there's no chance of them turning into a bunch of strung out heroin addicts and nodding off on stage. Now I'm not saying I'd pay five dollars at the door, but I would sneak in the back and drink the band's beer while putting the moves on their robotic groupies. You ever touched a metal tit before? They're freakin' legit.
The Trons: self-playing robot band totally kills our self-esteem [engadget]
Thanks Ryan, I call dibs on the one with the bald head and that's leaking oil, you can have the rest.
Jun 3 2008 Crazy Computer Desk Looks Like A Drum Set

We've already seen all sorts of ridiculous computer desks here at Geekologie, and here comes another -- the V1 (V for Vision, not Vagina). It looks like the bastard child of a three-way between a car seat, computer desk, and drum set.
The V1 computer desk is dynamically designed to be the best computer desk system on Earth. Comfort, quality, and customer satisfaction are our primary goals here. Three years of planning and development has brought the V1 computer gaming desk to this certain point. It can now be yours.
They start at $1,700 (sans monitor and speakers) but can be customized with different options all the way up to like a billion dollars. Maybe it's for you, but it's not for me. That thing would take up the whole damn room. Although now that I think about it, diamond-treaded foot rests could come in handy during a particularly volatile porn session.
Hit the jump for a few different setups and a link to the website.

Apr 28 2008 Acoustic Drum Machine Is A-Okay In My Book
Sure I could make beats with a drum synthesizer on the computer, but honestly, that's a little too digital for my tastes. Now I know what you're thinking: short of actually playing the drums, how can I get around this obstacle? Simple -- you make little robotic drums out of coffee cans, toss those mothers in a bomb-looking briefcase, make sure there's lots of sketchy wires hanging out, and then have them controlled by MIDI from a sequencer. And as easy as that you have your own acoustic drum machine. Pretty awesome, huh? I thought so. But I actually posted this though because I'm acting as matchmaker for Little Yellow Drum Machine, and I think this briefcase is right up his alley. What do you think my little robotic friend? *tink tink ta tink TINK* Ha, he said he'd attack that ass like a gong. Do I know him or what?
Thanks to the self proclaimed King of the Computer Geeks, for the tip
Mar 27 2008 Drum Table Makes Noise If You Bang On It

The Musical Rumba Table, from MusicalFurnishings.com, makes noise when you bang around on it. That's because it's actually a table with different percussion instruments attached to the underside of the individual tiles. You can even customize your piece by choosing from the 12 available percussion modules (cowbell, tambourine, snare, bongo, etc.). They come in sizes from 2' x 2' ($800) to 4' x 4' ($2,900) and might be worth it if you can't eat dinner without musical accompaniment. Or you could, oh I don't know, just eat a lot of beans. Toot toot! Seriously though, this seems like a great buy. Just look how much fun those people in the picture are having. Tons. It's like an African drumming circle, but a square. And with no Africans, just a bunch of pasty white people.
Video of someone beatin' the ol' blocks after the jump.

Mar 24 2008 Robot Drummer Is Cute, Makes Me Emotional

Whenever I see a cute robot I always get a little emotional. Mostly because of that movie with the little robots in it where the one gets injured and dies. Or maybe it doesn't die, I can't remember. I just know I was sadder than hell. What was the name of that movie? Let me do some searching. BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED! *sniffle* Oh my God somebody give me a box of tissues.
Okay I'm holding it down. Meet Yellow Drum Machine. He's a little robot that cruises around the room running into things. When he hits something that seems like it might make a pretty noise he bangs on it a couple of times and takes audio samples. If he likes what he hears he busts out with a little beat using his metal tinker and another butt bopper. He was constructed by robot hacker fritsl out of a bunch of random parts, including, but not limited to: a PICAXE 28 microcontroller, a sound sampler, and a cheese crate. Damn is he cute or what? If I do ever have a child with my Roomba mistress, I can only hope he comes out looking half as handsome. And with treads. So I can ride on him like a tank. Tankboy, take me to the liquor store.
Two worthwhile videos after the jump, one of him playing a glass of fruit punch, and another of him playing the wall in somebody's bathroom.

Sep 7 2007 Drumpants Are Drums In Your Pants!

Odbol (Tyler Freeman), a guy who looks like he's playing with himself where ever he goes, has made a pair of drumpants. Drumpants are pants that have Piezo transducer triggers in them that become MIDI data, and are then pushed to a drum machine. So you basically play the drums by beating yourself in the legs repeatedly. It's a neat idea, but I'm up in the air about its coolness. It's weird, you'd think the person who made these pants would be a hardcore drummer, and be able to wail on those things. Instead, it was made by a kind of leprachaun who plays like my niece.
Video proof after the jump.
