This is a video of an experiment called 'Puppy Pulling Power' that helps determine which breed of dog women respond to most. Basically some guy attached a digital camera to a dog's collar that takes a picture every time it detects a smile. Or breasts. Quite possibly breasts. Whatever the case, I'm adopting everything the pound has to offer. Cats too. Ladies?

Feb 26 2009 It's A Little Early: Hole-y Halloween Costume

It's never too early to start planning your next Halloween costume. In fact, I've got my costumes planned through 2016: Link, Link, Link, a Goron, a Zora, Link, a pirate, Dracula. Awh yeah, baby. But if you want to go as a guy with a wig on and a hole through his gut, go for it. All you need is a little LCD screen and video camera.

By using a travel DVD player strapped to my stomach, with video coming from a digital camera strapped to my back, it creates the illusion that I have a very large hole in my stomach.

Flickr user 'evanbooth', the creator, calls the costume the 'The Gaping Hole'. Which, ironically, is what I call the ex. *swish* Count it!

Feb 9 2009 Invading The Real World!: Fake Parking Tickets Used To Spread Computer Viruses

Hackers operating around Grand Forks, North Dakota (not to be confused with Giant Spoons, South Dakota) have been issuing fake parking tickets in order to get their victims to download viruses from a website.

Drivers found the following message on the yellow ticket on their windscreen: "PARKING VIOLATION This vehicle is in violation of standard parking regulations".

The ticket then instructed drivers to visit a website, where drivers could "view pictures with information about your parking preferences".

Anti-virus firm McAfee says the Vundo Trojan then gets users to install a fake anti-virus scanner.

Listen folks, if you don't want to fall victim to this sort of scam, you need to do what I do: not be a senior citizen.

This is a digital camera made out socks by Netta Amir. Unfortunately, it can only take really fuzzy(!) pictures and is kind of a pervert (foot fetish). Wanna make one yourself? Look under your computer desk -- balled up socks? Well wash them. Then stitch them together and, if you're anything like me, PRESTO -- you're bleeding. Ha, I wasn't supposed to put them on first. But they were so warm and fresh out of the dryer! Alright, let's try this again. Ah, there we go -- eight socks sewn together. Kind of looks like an octopus. Hmm, I guess there are actual skills involved. But not gloves -- save those for the video camera.

Jan 25 2009 Eye Candy: A 1,474 Megapixel Inauguration Photo With Sweet Zoom-In Capabilities

Oh man, you can actually zoom in on faces in the audience and see the snot dripping.

But what you're looking at is not a single image. The photo, which was shot using a Canon G10 and Gigapan Imager, is comprised of over 200 different shots that were then combined over the course of six hours using Gigapan software. The final product has a resolution of 1,474 megapixels and a TIF file size of almost 2 gigabytes

Pretty freaking awesome. So go HERE to explore the image for yourself. It's fun, I spent the better part of five minutes celebrity-hunting in the audience. Thought I spotted Oprah, but it was just some no-name with a turkey drumstick.

Modular plastic god LEGO has "teamed with Digital Blue to bring out a line of digital cameras, PMPs (portable media players), and walkie talkies for children". Dropping sometime this summer, the devices will run $19 - $60 and not be made of actual LEGO blocks. They'll look like it though. And looking, my friends, is half the battle. Touching is the other, trickier half.

Jun 17 2008 Tornado Picture Taken By A Crazy Woman

When I see a tornado I think, "holy shit, I'm gonna die and I haven't even seen a real-life boob", definitely not, "let me grab the camera and snap a couple shots." Well last tuesday, Lori Mehmen of Orchard Iowa did just that, and this is the result. Not sure if she was planning on documenting her trip to Oz or if she just had a death wish, but either way she ended up with an amazing shot. Thankfully, no one was injured in this particular tornado except some green hag that had a house fall on her. Yeah, and when nobody was looking I ganked her shoes. Later suckers! "There's no place like the strip club, there's no place like the strip club..."

UPDATE: So it turns out this isn't a tornado after all. It's just a "very picturesqe supercell with a pronounced low hanging meso". HA! -- "pronounced low hanging mesos". I've got a pair of those.

May 15 2008 Underwater Camera Mask Is A Great Idea

The SeaLife SL321 ECOshot is (allegedly) the world's first underwater camera built into a snorkeling mask. It packs a 5 megapixel camera and is good up to depths of 15 feet. It even has crosshairs in the eye pieces so you can frame up your shot and goes for right around $100.

Sweet. Mine just arrived so I'm gonna head down to the pool and see if I can't score some shots of the college girls swim team in action. I'll post any sweet derrières I manage to capture.

UPDATE: So I was the only one in the pool. Which was weird, I mean there wasn't even a lifeguard around. I guess I missed the sign on my way in, but the pool was supposed to be closed for disinfecting. Which explains the floater in the deep end I snapped a pic of.

Feb 26 2008 Adobe To Start Making Hardware Products?

Adobe recently displayed a camera lens they've developed that's capable of taking 19 different depth of field pictures with a single snap. Then, using their custom software they showed how you can manipulate a picture's focus and potentially bring objects at farther focal lengths into focus with nearer ones, etc. Pretty freaking neat. Adobe built this prototype to show off their software, but similar products could be on the market in a few years. And I'm going to buy one, damnit. I'm tired of all the hot girls in the background of my vacation photos turning out blurry because the camera decided to focus on my boring girlfriend.

Jan 10 2008 FOZI Tripod Is Plastic, Foldable, Fits In Wallet

The FOZI tripod is a little piece of plastic you can keep in your wallet. When you need to take good naked pictures of yourself to send to internet love interests you fold it, insert tab A into tab receptacle B, and presto -- a tripod. It can hold cameras, phones and portable media devices at four different angles, depending on if you're going for an above the waist shot or the full monty. They cost $6 shipped in Australia and $9 to the US, Canada, UK or New Zealand. It might not be a bad idea to have a little plastic tripod in your wallet at all times. Could come in handy. Like the time I got drunk with Bigfoot and a chupacabra and wanted to take a group picture but didn't have a tripod. Oh those were good times. Well, until Bigfoot called Mr. Chupacabra a pussy. It was an epic battle, but Bigfoot went down in the end.

Because shooting things is almost as much fun as stabbing them, I like guns. So why not fire some bullets through household objects and catch the action with a high speed camera. Sure, it's not a new concept, but I'm not letting that trivialize the quality of my boner right now.

Sep 17 2007 Triops, The Throwable Digital Camera

German designer Franziska Faoro has developed the Triops digital camera, which is a digital camera with three fisheye lenses. It can take panoramic photographs, or be thrown to take really blurry photographs. Yes I said thrown. You're supposed to toss it around for "an active, spontaneous and playful photography experience." It responds to sound and movement to take pictures, which are wirelessly transmitted to a separate display unit. Franziska is still searching for a manufacturer to produce the unit, so we'll see what happens. Of course if it goes anything like the "throwable audio equipment" I invented, I think it's safe to say these won't be hitting shelves anytime soon. Just the floor. And breaking.

Now I'm not a big fan of posting the latest camera or phone or what have you unless it has something real unique about it. And well, this one does (even if it is a sham and doesn't work and is a lie and is stupid). The new Sony Cybershot DSC-T200 has a smile detector. Don't believe it? You're not alone. But Sony insists.

Using Sony’s proprietary algorithm, this innovative intelligent auto shutter system responds actively to smiling faces. To start, just choose SmileShutter from Scene Selection, then press the shutter fully on the subject to be taken; the camera automatically detects the smiling face and closes the shutter. To detect the different degrees of smiles by your subject, you can set Smile Level sensitivity to “high” (to detect a faint smile), “medium” (for a normal smile), or “low” (for a hearty laugh).

While this sounds like a very interesting feature, I don't smile. The batteries will die in the camera and the earth will turn to dust before I do. Smiling is for the weak. Showing that much emotion in a photo basically means your mom dresses you and you're a monster sissy.

You may have already seen this because you're much hipper than I am, but you're not more attractive. Captain Handsome bows to no one in the good looks department. Anyways, someone has developed a technology that allows hidden messages to be printed on shirts, and only show up through a digital camera. According to the company,

Kameraflage is possible because digital cameras see a broader spectrum of light than human eyes. By rendering content in these wavelengths we are able to create displays that are invisible to the naked eye, yet can be seen when imaged with a digital camera.

So basically you can now wear a t-shirt with dirty words on it that will only be visible when someone takes a digital picture of you. Which is pretty brilliant - or so I thought. Let's just say my grandparents were less than impressed with the Kameraflage "Eat a Dong" t-shirt I mistakenly wore in our annual Christmas card photo.
