Jul 29 2009 Honey, I'm Gonna Need That Ring Back: Nano-diamonds May Help Heal Wounds

nanodiamond.jpg

Seen here is Dr. Manhattan's conception a nano-diamond attracting insulin to help a wound heal quicker. Neat, but I'd still douse it with Blue # 1 just to be on the safe side.

Northwestern University scientist Dean Ho and his team discovered that nanodiamonds are very attractive to insulin, best know for helping regulate blood sugar. Insulin, however, can also accelerate healing processes and stave off infection in wound sites, according to Ho:

Insulin accelerates wound healing by acting as a growth hormone. It encourages skin cells to proliferate and divide, restores blood flow to the wound, suppresses inflammation and fights infection.

Nice, but I can't even get my insurance to cover regular bandages at the doctor, so I can pretty much forget about DIABANDAGES©. Haha -- pay me, suckers!

Nov 19 2008 Keep Your Money Secure With A LEGO Safe

lego-safe.jpg

This LEGO safe is made out of modular plastic blocks called LEGO bricks. And it has a Mindstorm NXT unit attached to handle its secret combination.

Five double digit codes protect your valuables, and the dial goes both ways, so there's a left and right entry for each number -- hence, over 305 billion possible combinations. Moving the safe will trip motion sensors and set off an alarm, and bars inside strengthen the structure.

Not bad -- as long as you're only locking up old Halloween candy or your little sister. But what if you need to protect something a little more valuable? That's right -- always cover your nuts with a free hand.

Video after the jump.

Jan 31 2008 Buy This Computer And I Will Hunt You Down

dumb-computers.jpg

Zeus Computers, which I'm pretty sure was a company set up to steal money from stupid rich people, is selling two ridiculously priced ridiculous computers. The first one is platinum and is studded with diamonds to resemble constellations. It is stupid and costs about $750,000. The second computer, priced at a modest $560,000 is gold with diamond accents. What kind of computer bang do you get for that buck?

Intel’s 3GHz E6850 Core 2 Duo CPU, 2GB of DDR 2 memory and a whopping 1TB hard drive. Zeus clearly hasn’t made its mind up over which format will win the HD war, so it includes a dual Blu-ray/HD DVD drive. The PC runs on Windows Vista, Ultimate edition of course, and ships with a 24in 1920 x 1200 resolution monitor.

Pretty impressive huh? Nope, it's not. I swear if anybody buys one of these I will hack the company's database, get the customer's information, hunt them down and steal their computer. Then I'll do something sensible with the machine, like melt it down and make a wicked set of grillz. Then I can finally make the video for my rap song. It's called I Love Dem Gadget N Gizmo Hoes.

Is this the world's most expensive desktop PC? [registerhardware]
