Aug 7 2009 You're Doing It Wrong: Dell Shipping Options

dell-shipping.jpg

I don't even want to know how much this shipping option is, but one thing is certain: it's not worth it. Not only is the box being crushed, but it's upside down! Dude, you're getting a Dell broken computer.

Thanks to Todd, who, for actually taking the picture, receives today's unsafe driver award. Congratulations!

Jul 9 2008 More Geek Tattoos That I Would Never Get

tattoo-1.jpg

Here at Geekologie we've seen gaming tattoos, laser-etched tattoos, a dude with a Zune tattoo, and even eyeball tattoos. And here comes another installment of geeky ink. Apple, Google, Microsoft, Dell, they're all here, along with a few others. Make sure to hit the jump and check out my favorite, the Game Over tattoo. Also, I'll be posting pictures of my wicked Geekologie tattoo just as soon as I get it. Still waiting for the payday loan to clear.

Hit the jump for a bunch more and the link to a couple other smaller ones.

Feb 15 2008 Dell Employee Taunts Customer, Calls Him A Little Girl. This May Or May Not Be Real.

This is allegedly an "actual leaked phone conversation" between a customer and Dell sales rep. That authenticity can be debated all you want, but I'm posting it anyways. Mostly because Roberto, the sales rep, calls the customer a little girl -- repeatedly -- because the dude backs out of a sale. Now call me a bit extreme, but I would have reached through that goddamn phoneline and ripped Roberto's windpipe out had this happened to me. I swear, where's Officer Rivieri when you need him?

Jan 9 2008 Dell XPS Goes Blue Screen Of Death At CES

dell-bsod-1.jpg

Well Dell was showing off their latest and greatest at the CES, including some systems running Crysis, and lo and behold an XPS system goes down in a blaze of Blue Screen Of Death. The funny thing is nobody seemed to do anything about it. It definitely sat there long enough for the Techeblog reporter to take a bunch of pictures. That is just completely unacceptable on Dell's behalf. Do they not train the employees displaying their products at the show? If I was there and had a computer go Blue Screen on me somebody better dive on that bitch like it's a live grenade about to blow up the platoon.

Another up close picture after the jump, so you can read the screen.

Sep 5 2007 Laptop Fire Case Study 2

dell-laptop-fire-1.jpg

Well I'm sure you all fondly remember the first laptop case study, teaching us what not to do in case of an electronics fire. Well here is case study number two, which illustrates the proper way to respond should your laptop burst into flames. This case study comes to us from Shanghai. Sure China is trying to kill all our children with lead based toys, but damn can they handle a laptop fire with gusto!

Laptop fire Step 1. Don't move the laptop from its original location. This is vital (and often overlooked because you don't want your house/office to burn down), but you will see its importance when you move to 2. Ignore putting out the fire for the time being and start taking as many digital pictures as you can. With the laptop in its natural habitat, we can really get a feel for the moment. At this point there is an optional step 3. which consists of inviting friends over and/or cracking a beer while you watch it burn. After inhaling your fair share of fumes, you can now 4. go ahead and put the damn thing out. Stomp it, pour something/urinate on it, or use a fire extinguisher (less style points for that though). Lastly you should post the pictures on the internet and eat that now chemically laced pomegranate on the desk and wash it down with your tainted coffee. Thanks for the lead China, and for the awesome laptop fire know-how!

A few more pictures after the jump.

Aug 27 2007 Laptop Fire Case Study

laptop-fire.jpg

Well by now I'm sure you're aware that laptops and cell phones have been blowing up all over the place recently, and I present to you this case as an example of what not to do when something of yours explodes.

Douglas Brown, a computer network administrator from Columbus, Georgia said his Dell 9200 wide-screen laptop's batteries exploded into flames, it "looked like fireworks which would have been cool had it not been in my house." Brown called 911 and the fire department responded with two pumpers, a ladder truck, the HAZMAT unit, an ambulance and the battalion chief.

Now I've told many women I've met in bars that I'm a forensic scientist, so I practically am. And based on my expert opinion I'm going to have to say that this Douglas character should have his "man" status revoked and be demoted to "infant". Look at that fire, does that look 911 worthy? I've put out bigger flames on birthday cakes. In the time it took him to dial 911 I'm pretty confident he could have put that fire out with, well, anything. So, when something of yours goes boom, don't be a Douglas, stomp the damn thing like any normal person would.

Jul 28 2006 Another Dell explodes

dell-explode.jpg

Not sure what's going on with Dell lately, but not only has their customer service and support gone to hell, but now their computers are exploding on a regular basis.

Jul 17 2006 Dell and Alienware put together XCS concept

dellxcs.jpg

Alienware probably has the greatest computer cases available. Dell not so much. Put the two together and what do you get? The weirdest looking computer you've ever seen. Dubbed the XCS, the case seems to use peripherals like cartridges, possibly allowing for the swapping of harddrives or anything else you might want to swap. Although I doubt this case is ever going to actually make it to consumers. It's too different from current systems to ever catch on. They might as well be presenting a raw fish and saying "This is the next generation of computer!"

Jun 21 2006 Dell computer explodes during conference

dell-banger1.jpg

If you happen to own a Dell laptop try to make sure it doesn't explode, because that's exactly what happened at a conference in Japan. No explanation has been given yet, just some witnesses who say the thing suddenly burst into flames and produced "several more explosions for more than five minutes."

This exact same thing happened to me and the laptop I built using firecrackers and lighter fluid. And I was so convinced booting up with a match would've worked.
