Aug 19 2009 Awh: A Sentimental Super Nintendo Tattoo

I would never think to associate video game tattoos with sentimental memories, but apparently it happens.
My Super Nintendo controller tattoo. It says "Mom Mom" because I got it in memory of my grandmother who died 06/08/04. I grew up playing Super Nintendo with her. It's real patchy & I need to get it touched up because that grey color is a b, but it means a lot to me.
That's cute. Now I don't feel so bad about getting a tattoo of my first dog with a Game Boy for a head. *sniff* Miss you, Tetris face.

Thanks to Jonah Ray, who got a tattoo of Garfield humping a Dreamcast because it means something to him.
Jul 15 2009 It's Aliiiive!: Zombie SNES Mod Still Functional

French modder skadrums71 went and busted up a Super Nintendo and modded it Frankenstein style into an undead console. Amazingly, it still works. Per my tipster's translation:
Of course it works! it would have been non-sense to mod it!! we can plug in and out the cartridge without any difficulties!! the power button can be moved without difficulties... nevertheless, the eject button is blocked (it was already blocked before the mod process and the reset button is doomed (just for fun)
Well that ain't bad! Of course, I don't know how I'd feel about having another cartridge eating zombie running around the house. I'm looking at you, zombie dog. Damnit, you're slobbering through your neck again.
Hit the jump for a bunch more shots, some with the lights off for full effect.

Jun 16 2009 I'm On To You: SNES Really A PC In Disguise

It may look like a Super Nintendo, but really IT'S A TRAP! PC. I particularly like the CD slot.
...here is a cool case mod by quangDX and DuPPs. Using the Super Nintendo and the Acer Aspire One A150, they have created a SNES PC Case Mod. The controller ports have been converted to USB adapters (via a faux controller cable), the cartridge is a CD drive and the cables are plugged in through the back.
Now as good as it does look, I must admit to being anti-stuffing one console into another one's body. It leads to identity crisis -- and identity crisis leads to hookin' on the street corner for pirated software. And if you're reading this: please come home my little MacBook Dreamcast!
Hit the jump for several more shots of the trickery.

Mar 23 2009 The Super Nintoaster Burnt My Cartridge :(

The Super Nintoaster is a Super Nintendo in a toaster's body. It's similar to that time I dressed as a woman and solicited men at the bar (Friday), but nowhere near as good looking. It's maker, Mr. Vomitsaw, discusses:
Built from nothing more than a Super NES, a toaster, four different types of adhesives, magnets ripped from a broken hard drive, six orange LEDs, a bunch of resistors, plexiglass, and many many spare wires. Not too dissimilar from my previous toaster, only this time the temperature comtrol knob DOES serve a purpose! If for some reason you feel the need to adjust the brightness of the orange LEDs, now you can.
Good looking, Mr. Vomitsaw. Or should I call you Mr. Barfblade? Pukepruner? Heavecleaver?
Hit the jump for a video of the SNES toasty-ness.

Jan 16 2009 What If The Dark Knight Was An 8-Bit Game?
This is a video of what the opening sequence of an 8-bit Nintendo Dark Knight game may have looked like. I've heard arguments it's more SNES looking, but whatever, I'm not here to argue, I'm here to pick up vulnerable women. I just ran over your cat, wanna grab some coffee?

Thanks to cool-slayer and Dave, both of whom fight crime without the assistance of masks or capes because that shit's for ugly people and those who can't fly naturally.
Jan 2 2009 DIY: Make Your Own SNES Cartridge Wallet

Some guy went and made a wallet out of an old SNES game cartridge (that shit better not have been A Link To The Past). The cartridge comes packed with emergency LEDs, videogame sound effects, and enough room to carry cash, cards, keys and a USB memory stick. Granted, it's not the coolest wallet I've ever seen, but I'm biased since I made one out of an entire Wii console. Plus, if i rock it in a front pocket, it makes my junk look bigger. And rectangular-er. Which, according to my latest poll, 6 out of 5 women on the bus find freaky deaky.
Hit the link for a picture of the insides and a link to the Instructable.

Aug 4 2008 Legit Looking: Handheld Super Nintendo

This is a handheld Super Nintendo made by some guy that frequents the BenHeck forums (Ben Heck being that guy that's always modding the hell out of controllers). As you can see, it's looking pretty sleek. Way sleeker than the portable Gamecube, and of equal sleekiosity to this Dreamcast. But how does it compare to its wooden brethren? Well that's up to your personal taste. And feel. Some pirates prefer a modern, plastic prosthetic when they lose a leg in battle, but I'm a purist -- pegleg all the way. Oh shit, and a parrot. Gotta have a parrot. And it should be able to cuss. And have a patch-eye and a tattoo of a naked mermaid. Otherwise, you aren't a freaking pirate, you're just an exotic pet owner with a missing leg.

May 21 2008 Classic Controller Belt Buckles For Sale

Want a NES or Genesis controller belt buckle? Well they're available. And so are SNES, Atari, and NES Advantage (the big arcade style controller) ones. Ranging in price from $30 to $50 (just like dog wigs!), they're all guaranteed to hold your pants up. But they're not guaranteed to come with a belt, so the company sells those for $5 extra. While I was kind of digging the classic NES buckle, I think I'm gonna hold out for an N64 one -- with a functional rumble pak attachment. *bzzzzzzzzz* Oh yeah, that's the stuff.
Pictures of all the different models after the jump.

Dec 21 2007 Artist Sells Nintendo Themed Collages

Chris Lange is a Washington DC artist and Nintendo lover. He makes made-to-order collages of your favorite characters out of old Nintendo Power magazines. A 30" x 20" collage will set you back $250. He'll do any character you want, and will also take custom orders in different sizes. Awesome. Now I hate to steal any of Chris's business, but I just recently started selling nearly identical Nintendo collages for only $150. My dedicated staff of illegal child laborers skilled artisans are ready to take orders, so call today.
Two more collages after the jump, a Yoshi and a Waluigi.
Dec 17 2007 Handheld SNES Console Is Wooden

Some modder went and made a handheld wooden SNES out of, get this, wood. That's right folks, that's not a cheap wood print on a vinyl sticker, that is actual tree right there. Allegedly the modder yanked the display from a PSOne, which makes it a sort of video game console hybrid freak. Sort of like if Pac Man banged Princess Peach and they had kids. Which of course is impossible because he'd just gobble her up before they could do it.

Dec 5 2007 Nintendo NES Actually A PC, Emulator

Some man in France stuffed a PC into an old NES console and packed the thing with emulators for NES, SNES, N64 and PS2. The computer has "a 1GHz CPU, 256MB of RAM and 40GB hard drive." The man claims he spent over $1,200 and 50 hours of labor on the unit. It's for sale on eBay France, and is currently at about $920 with 4 days remaining. Included in the auction are all the controllers for the various systems, along with the connectors necessary to hook them up to the PC. Pretty cool, but too rich for my blood. Although I do have a fondness for PC based emulators. They really helped pass the time in college classes, particularly Ocarina of Time. I remember a professor called on me to answer a question once when I was in the water temple and I had to scream at him for disturbing my concentration at such a critical moment. I think he failed me. What a dick.
Two more pictures and a video after the jump.
Apr 25 2007 Super Nintendo Wii mod

French modder Kotomi created this Super Nintendo mod based on the Wii which he calls the Nintendo Super Nii. It plays classic SNES cartridges and looks, well, awesome. Although I can't decide if I like this NES mod better. I guess they both made me cream my pants equally so let's call it a tie.
A couple more shots of the Nintendo Super Nii after the jump.
