Japan Sets World Record For Most Dancing Mascots

This is allegedly a video of Japan setting the Guinness World Record for the most mascots dancing at one time. As you can see, everybody's favorites showed up for the record-breaking attempt, including, uh, that McDonald's Hamburger headed dude's girlfriend, Pedobear on drugs and in disguise, and...fine, I don't know who any of these characters are. Also, despite three years of high school Spanish I never picked up any Japanese so I couldn't read the subtitles in the video. This could be a clip from a mascot prison exercise program for all I know.

Thanks to Mnemosyne, who heard Disney tried to set the world record for dancing mascots but the air conditioning in Goofy's suit failed and he collapsed taking Donald Duck and Minnie with him.

    Haha, I love the serious people walking between the mascots, they're probably the organizers or the Guiness people, but when you've got a giant foam vegetable dancing beside you...

    They're meant to be mascots from each prefecture or region. The subtitles basically say that if they can get all of the mascots doing the same dance for over 5 minutes, they can break the record - and then they fail twice - and finally they achieve it at the end.

    I went there on holiday and was actually offered some as soon as I stepped out of the subway in Shinjuku. I didn't take the dude up; I'm guessing the Tokyo cops do not mess around. Though to hear it from expats living there, my experience was not common.

  • I only recognized the sunflower from Plants Vs. Zombies...also, was there a previous record of this? I don't think any other country has that amount of mascots...or mascots at all.
