Best Buy Employee 'Outs' Straight Man On Facebook Who Brought His Phone In For Repair

May 4, 2012 / best buy, come on now, doing it wrong, facebook, fail, good one you idiot, may the fourth be with you and all that jazz, oh man one time i called the geek squad for a house call i'm lying i didn't do that, wtf is wrong with you, you are so funny!, you won't believe what i just did lolololol

Rich Dewberry, who, despite his name is allegedly straight, was recently falsely outed on Facebook by a Best Buy employee who was supposed to repair his phone but instead posted a message on Rich's already-signed-in Facebook account. The Geek Squad: maybe not as professional as we'd like to think. The offending employee has since been fired.

Rich Dewberry said he brought in his mobile device to get fixed and was given a new phone. Shortly afterward, his Facebook status read, "I am gay, I'm coming out."


"The phone just started ringing constantly after that from [an] ex-spouse to friends," he told ABC's Denver affiliate, KMGH.

"Just having to explain it to certain people that I haven't been in contact for a while," he said. "I feel I shouldn't have to do that."

Listen Rich: people thinking you're gay isn't the worst thing that can happen to a person. As a matter of fact, on several occasions it's allowed me to see some boobs that I never would have been able to see otherwise. *girl that's a friend changing* "You ARE gay, right?" OMG, sister -- THE GAYEST.

Thanks to Suzanne, who agrees updating somebody else's Facebook status on an auto-logged in device is like the LOL-iest! Jk jk, f***ing lame.

  • It was the store in Denver that is closing due to Best Buy's terrible business decisions over the last few years. The employee was probably angry, and did a douchebag move, therefore losing the chance to transfer to another store, or to get a severance package. TAKE IT!

    People have thought I was Gay for years. I'm not and it was only around 4 weeks ago people figured out i'm not gay. I never said anything like "Im gay" and have constantly been going on to friends about females I like yet they thought I was gay.  7 years later "Oh, your not gay, well do you want to go out".

    Really?  This isn't news.  This is just a juvenile prank.  The same thing happens everyday on high school and college campuses when kids forget to logout, or whenever someone leaves a phone unlocked at a party or bar.  Big deal.

    Evidently not only is he gay but an he's imbecile as well..

  • The lesson here: Don't have your auto log-in activated before sending it for a tech repair.  Not every employee abides by their company privacy policies.

  • I've heard and read reports about employees taking information from customers' computers, etc. The Consumerist has an article about them, too. Do a Google search and you'll see what I mean.
