Holy Smokes: Super Impressive Steampunk Portal Gun

steampunk-portal-gun.jpg

DeviantARTist robin-n-raspberries batman-n-bananas went and built this ultra impressive steampunk Portal gun out of found objects (read: junk). It...is better than the steampunk Portal gun I could build out of pieces designed specifically FOR building a steampunk Portal gun. The ingredients:

2 antique clock movements, 1 +1/2 hangers, Metal teapot stand, plastic mechano, plumbing parts, 1 plant pot, 1 hair gel pot + various lids, plastic tub (those ones you get nuts in the the supermarket), plastic tubing, lots and lots of nuts and bolts, miniature storage box (for the battery compartment), pocket laser disc (you can get them on ebay if anyone's interested), 3 lightbulbs, carboard tube, metal covering from an old hairbrush, AV socket, tons of odds and ends from my parents garage, oh and of course the usuals - milliput, humbrol and warhammer paints, hot melt glue and about 6 gallons of superglue. ...that's about as much as I can remember... enjoy!

Not gonna lie, I've actually put all those things together before and it didn't look anything like a Portal gun. But you know what it DID look like? A yard sale. I made a nickel!

'Outside Aperture' is a 8-minute Portal fan film. It's really good. Like the muffins my elderly neighbor used to bake and bring over before I found out she made them with kitty litter (I thought they were pistachio bits!). I don't really want to ruin anything for you, so jus... / Continue →

This is a video of the Beetle Juice roller coaster Youtube user nuropsych1 built in Minecraft creative mode on an X-Box (wow). No screencap could really capture the scale or trippy visuals of the coaster though, so if you're going to watch it, watch it, and if you're not, that... / Continue →

This is a series of realistically painted Pokemons by DeviantARTist arvalis (aka RJ Palmer -- check out his page for ultra high-res shots). It says in his little bio he likes dinosaurs, so we're pretty similar. Except I LOVE dinosaurs. I am dino fan numero uno. My buddy Ter... / Continue →

  • Soooo steampunk is basically what a normal object would look like if Fred Sanford made it.

  • It definitely has elements of both the Portal gun and Half Life 2's Gravity gun. It's like an combination of both.

  • Chad Hauschild

this is definitely the gravity gun.

  • NoveltyFishHead

ah, I wish I had a robotic garbage disposal...wait what it's a Steampunked Portal gun?

  • roxygirlfiction

I wouldn't call that steampunk, it's more cyberpunk.

  • n11

Niiice. I'd love to have that, great work on it!

Okay... now this is just going to make me imagine the Space Core wearing a top hat or Chell in a corset...

...or the Space Core in a corset... mmm...

    (Who's your daddy?  SPAAACE!)

  • All I can see is a binder clip with a bunch of burnished junk tacked on to it.

  • Doesn't look like steampunk at all, actually it looks like the gravity gun.

  • i was just about to say that

  • Joseph Vilain

That is awesome....although I thought steam punk was about taking modern tech (or future tech) and powering it with steam...and brass/bronze. Is that wrong?

  • Steampunk tech is future tech as we envision that Victorian Era people envisioned it...
