DJ MC Escher: Arms Attached To Turntables Draw Picture

dj-art-drawing.jpg

This is a mesmerizing video of an arm attached to two record players drawing. What's it drawing? 'DIE DIE DIE DIE DIE' over and over. Just kidding, it looks like a worm-hole or something. And speaking of worm holes: one time I got a worm to eat a piece of string and then when it came out the other side I tied the string in a knot and wore him as a necklace. He would do little laps around my neck constantly eating the string! Then he dried up.

Hit the jump for the video.

Thanks to Mark, whose CD player promised to draw him something for his birthday but then it forgot to so he smashed it to bits and got an iPod.

This is a video of a piece of red scarf dancing around in the air vortex artist David Wertzel created with a bunch of fans. It's pretty mesmerizing to watch, and several times you'd swear it was a ghost. So I guess it could even be considered erotic for those of you that are ... / Continue →

Note: No screencap can do the thing justice, just play the video and skip around. This is the 'Horse Riding Fitness Ace Power' exercise machine from Korea. It's supposed to emulate the action of horseback riding, but it looks more like a cross between booty-grinding somebody'... / Continue →

This is a 3:21 video of a Slinky on a treadmill set to epic battle music that sounds straight out of Braveheart or 300. Fun fact: I haven't seen either one of those. "You're such a loser." No, I am A CHILD and those are both rated R. I thought this video was a great metapho... / Continue →

I've got two turntables and an Escher-sketch...

    spyrograph!

Now, for the bonus: What's the equation of this graph?

  • i'm actually really curious to find out the answer to that, seeing as it's periodic, based on when the two turntables return to the original starting position.    assuming 33rpm and 45rpm, the Least Common Multiple is 495, so, after 495 revolutions the period for the pen's path will have started over, right?    Did i do that right?  i haven't mathed in a while lolol

It looks to me like they are both set to "33," but one arm is fixed closer to the center than the other which makes them turn at slightly different speeds.

  • If you follow the "via" links, they indicate that the two turntables are running at 33rpm and 45rpm, respectively

  • Could I just get one of these in Green pen, framed? Shut the heck up and take my money.

  • Didn't they used to sell these in stores? I feel like my sister had one... and I always used it when no one was home >.>

  • I was thinking that myself. There was a toy where you put the gear into the window and drew similar designs. What the hell was the name of it?

Totally thought there was going to be music...
