R/C Superheroes Fly Around NYC To Market Movie

fake-superhero-flight.jpg

To market the soon-to-be-released coming of age superpowers story Chronicle, Fox hired viral marketing agency Thinkmodo to deliver a campaign. Aaaaaand this is what they came up with -- flying three R/C superheroes around NYC trying to freak people out. Me? I would've hired a sky writer to spell out 'SUCK IT' and pocketed any money left over.

Since the three main characters of the movie have the ability to fly, we came up with the idea of staging a few "flying people" sightings around NYC. We achieved that illusion by having 3 custom-made aircraft (which were shaped like human beings) fly above designated areas in NYC and NJ.

Were people actually fooled? From the looks of some of them in the video, my guess is yes. But what did you expect? People are dumb as shit. I mean, besides you and I. We're the only real smart ones here.

Hit the jump for the video.

Flying People Spotted Over New York City...Film At Nine [techcrunch]

Thanks to kipperdoo, Seth and Bugsy, who would be surprised if they DIDN'T see people flying around the city (I've been drugging their breakfasts for years).

Didn't apple try stealing this idea to use for the next ipad launch?  I heard they did but instead chose to line up a bunch of dummies with camping gear, iphones and twitter accounts outside of best buys across the nation

I wonder if the studio execs demanded both the slo-mo sequence of the "filmmakers" walking across some winter grass and also teh dubstep 'soundtrack'.

i had a gun somewhere ... shoot them down  :D

Flying guys are boring. But on the other hand... it looks like the construction of the new World Trade Center building is coming along nicely.
