Sleep Texting: Apparently People Are Doing It

November 28, 2011 / cell phones, damn technology, doing things you regret, not waking up, one time i actually left the house while asleep true story, really? because one time i called a phone sex line in my sleep and spent $80 (jk jk that's just what i told my parents), sleeping, sleeping through a fire, text messaging, you were drinking and you know it

You know how many mornings I've woken up and had zero clue what I did the night before? Every single one. But now allegedly sober people are claiming to be sending text messages in their sleep. Wow, can't say I'm surprised. Or good looking. :/

Dr Cunnington described sleep texting as the result of people having too much to do during waking life.


"People are doing so much during a normal day that it can mean that they feel like they're 'on call' even at night," he said.

"Because it's so easy to receive emails constantly, and get notifications from smartphones, it becomes more difficult for us to separate our waking and sleeping lives."

  • I've honestly had this happen on more than one occasion. Someone would ask me later, "What were you talking about?" I look at the texts I sent previously, and can't come up with a valid reason. I have no recollection of sending them or that I even texted that person.

    Yeah I do this ROFL.  But it has nothing to do with having too much to do during the day, that's crazy talk.  It has to do with a friend who keeps VERY strange hours (for no apparent reason) and will routinely text me at 3-4 am, asking me questions.

    I've sleep texted before! Once, a friend texted me saying "What's Up?" and I replied "Not much, Just waiting for all of these people to leave so I can go to bed!" ....at 3AM....while I was sleeping. Alone, in my bedroom...
