Mar 10 2011HELP: Terminator Dog Needs Adopting

This is Hachi. Hachi is an Akita/Chow mix that was badly burned in a house fire, leaving him looking like a Terminator. A TERMINATOR THAT JUST MELTED MY HEART INTO A PUDDLE.
County fire fighters brought Hachi into Affordable Animal Hospital in Torrance with third-degree burns covering over 60 to 70 percent of his body. He was nothing but a sweetheart from the time he was carried in - black and charred with the pads of his feet literally falling off.
Luckily, he responded well to treatment and luckily for someone else, he is ever so sweet. He will make a certain someone or family a very special companion. He is loyal and a totally devoted animal.Much of the burn areas covering his face and body will never grow hair back, there is not much left of his ears either... but we are looking for someone who can overlook what many may find unsightly on the outside to see what a jewel he is on the inside and be reminded of all those that are good in the world:
* Fire fighters willing to risk their own lives for that of another and especially that of "just a dog."
* The vets, technicians, groomers and staff at Affordable Animal Hospital that helped him along in his recovery.
* The county shelter for footing the bill of this special dog's lengthy road back to health.Hachi is ready and waiting for a home as special as he is.
Okay, who's crying? Because I can't even see my monitor that's how bad that got me. For a second I actually thought I was underwater. Now, somebody (CAPABLE AND NOT A DIPSHIT) go adopt this dog or I'm not writing for the rest of the day. "You wouldn't!" HA -- you think I won't just go out drinking and forget about you people?! Do it every night.
Hit the jump for a closeup of Hachi's face and a link to his Petfinder page if you live in or around El Segundo, CA and want to give Hachi a new lease on life.

Thanks to allis, who likes animals more than people. Hey, I'm with you. Unless we're talking romantically in which case, BTDT, they have my picture up at the petting zoo.

8. Max Big-Dog Boivin - March 10, 2011 11:50 AM
Hoo... I would take him but, I live so far away!!
9. Greenman - March 10, 2011 11:54 AM
Well what happened to his original owners? Did they die in the fire? If not, why would he have been taken away from them? It's terrible that he got burned but you can't necessarily blame the owners for abuse or neglect. House fires suck but shit happens.
10. Shelbon - March 10, 2011 11:54 AM
I would adopt him but my current dog would eat him, literally eat him.
11. McFeely Smackup - March 10, 2011 11:54 AM
So...what happened to the people who USED to own him?
Were they named Conner by any chance?
12. Toby Lewis-Hammond - March 10, 2011 11:54 AM
I'd have him if he wasn't a number of thousands of miles away.
Lovely little fella.
13. Christian Tearanny - March 10, 2011 11:55 AM
<3 Loyalty & Love. What more could you ask for??
14. Shiffy - March 10, 2011 11:55 AM
I would, but i'm not allowed more than 3 dogs in my city. We already have 3, all shelter dogs. I wish I could though.
15. FragMePlz - March 10, 2011 12:00 PM
If I still lived in California I would have gotten in touch with them the instant I realized where he was.
16. Dinosaur Rex - March 10, 2011 12:01 PM
Poor homeless doggies ; _ ; , I would take it if I had a bigger house.
17. naas - March 10, 2011 12:01 PM
poor doggeh
18. Thumperchick - March 10, 2011 12:08 PM
Wrong side of the country for me to adopt, but he's a cutie! I would take him just to scare my jackass brother in law.
19. Bambi - March 10, 2011 12:11 PM
Awww no :( He's still absolutely gorgeous despite the burns and unfortunate resemblance to a Terminator. I would adopt him if I didn't live in the UK.
I hope he isn't adopted by a dipshit who just wants a Terminator dog. Here's hoping he's adopted by someone capable and loving.
20. hipuppy - March 10, 2011 12:19 PM
Burns? What burns? :D What a cute puppy. :) I want him. :D
21. Gaetan - March 10, 2011 12:22 PM
It really makesme sad to see such companions having so difficult lifes.
A dog, or any other inteligent pet, is a friend forever, it doesn't care about who or what you are, he will always love you. It's the best loyal and non descriminating, raccist or anything else companion, and in my opinion, more worth saving than some people on this planet.
If I could I would gladly take him, I'd even empty the animal shelterS.
I hope Hachi finds a great home with loving owners, because that's what he deserves :)
22. inkpwn - March 10, 2011 12:24 PM
Still cute :) did you say how old he was?
23. hipuppy - March 10, 2011 12:24 PM
And the fact that his name is Hachi(ko) makes him even cuter. OMG. TEARS.
24. OU812 - March 10, 2011 12:27 PM
Can't have goggies where I live. But if I could it would be my mission to get Hachi. I hope he finds a really good home and it loved to pieces.
25. Claire - March 10, 2011 12:37 PM
I have cats and I live in GB... So much against me getting him but so much WANT!
26. Ollie Williams - March 10, 2011 12:41 PM
GW should adopt him since he lives in CA anyway. Make him the official Geekologie mascot. That'd be badass.
27. Biwamaru - March 10, 2011 12:52 PM
Perrobot!!!
28. ... - March 10, 2011 12:52 PM
Well if someone here is able to adopt him. Send the pic to Geekologie!
@26 That would be awsome! But he does live in LA and LA people(not me) don't seem to own anything bigger than a mouse.
29. Potzer - March 10, 2011 12:58 PM
Should name him "Wolfy"... (T2 ref!)
That dog is all cute and all, but wait til someone snaps out a zippo and the dog flips out tearing half your face off.
30. President Obama - March 10, 2011 12:59 PM
Can it pop balloons ?
31. Ollie Williams - March 10, 2011 1:04 PM
@28
I am fairly certain GW owns a dog or two. ;)
32. Fjord Prefect - March 10, 2011 1:24 PM
SOOO SAD!!!
33. Boost - March 10, 2011 1:39 PM
I would adopt that dog in a second if I lived near it.
How sad, yet awesome.
34. steve - March 10, 2011 2:18 PM
Did the firemen save the dog and not the owners?!
35. Ed - March 10, 2011 3:24 PM
It's not orange all the way down?
Also, I bet he plays great with Voldemort cat.
36. Anthony - March 10, 2011 3:41 PM
I live IN El Segundo, CA!!
How have I not heard of this? Poor guy needs a home.. i'm literally crying now...
37. Katie G - March 10, 2011 4:37 PM
His owners likely gave him up if they were unable to afford the cost of his care. Happens a lot with injured animals, unfortunately. Just when they need you the most....
38. Deacon Jones - March 10, 2011 4:53 PM
That headline is hilarious!
This dog will get picked up, no doubt
39. Amber - March 10, 2011 5:31 PM
There are so many tortured and hurt animals out there. I work with an independant rescue for cats that has a little orange cat named Griffin that had his tail and backside destroyed by someone exploding a firecracker in his butt. See our Petfinder page here: http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/17044708
40. Tora - March 10, 2011 6:13 PM
I would absolutely take him! He's adorable! Too bad I don't live in CA or i would.
41. Deacon Jones - March 10, 2011 6:15 PM
@39
I feel guilty as hell for laughing when I read your post.
42. mike - March 10, 2011 6:20 PM

43. Gunnit - March 10, 2011 6:55 PM
I knew GW had a heart. He just drinks in an attempt to kill it. MEEEEEE too! I'm thinking of contacting the shelter even tho I live in TN.
44. Bec - March 10, 2011 8:06 PM

47. clarazinet - March 11, 2011 12:36 AM
@1 is that a lord of the rings reference, or am i just that determined to see lotr references everywhere...
48. u all dum - March 11, 2011 12:44 AM
I understand the sentimentality involved in this, but honestly, if you saw a child with 3rd degree burns, you wouldn't adopt it. Admit that you're a bad person for it, don't adopt the dog because of the guilt you feel, or that you know you should. Pets are great, but until you're contributing to the continuation of humans, you have no right to have one. The extraneous creatures should be put down humanely.
49. Rob - March 11, 2011 1:00 AM
@48 Bro what the hell...how can you justify the ending of one life for that of another? Thats not cool. You can't focus on one problem or you'll lose focus of all the problems in the world. And what's with the put downs? Come on man....don't be a dick.
50. Joakestser - March 11, 2011 1:40 AM
@48 Funny, I'm finding you to be a pretty extraneous contribution to the human race....dick.
Nice post, GW.
51. Kerak - March 11, 2011 8:42 AM
Voy bu kuchu terminator emas hapanator bo'b qobtiku. Holasela man bu kuchukni boqib olaman. Hachi bechara Arnoldga etudim uni ko'chaga chiqarma dib.
52. dan - March 11, 2011 8:50 AM
If i did not live in the UK i would adopt in a second.
53. mirroredcactus - March 11, 2011 9:47 AM
i will adopt him and change his name to T- 100
54. Srini - March 11, 2011 9:56 AM
Put it on my FB status. Hope this helps the poor doggie. Would have surely adopted him if I were in the US
55. Rataxes - March 11, 2011 10:25 AM
I would adopt him. He's adorable.
And I'd name him Skynet. Seriously.
56. The Cheese Stands Alone - March 11, 2011 10:32 AM
If I had a place that allowed dogs I'd adopt him without even thinking about it.
57. The Cheese Stands Alone - March 11, 2011 10:37 AM
@48 - You're a moron. For one thing, not everybody wants kids. And for another, adopting a child and adopting a pet are hardly comparable for many reasons, not the least of which is the expense associated with each. Get a fucking clue.
58. Vico - March 11, 2011 11:28 AM
badass cuteness!!!
59. for animals - March 11, 2011 12:56 PM
Shared on FB. Hope the baby finds a home soon.
@ 48 - Get a life loser, if you cannot, go fuck yourself.
60. u all superdumb - March 11, 2011 7:13 PM
how much money was wasted on this dog? i'd be pissed off if i lived in the county that just pissed money away on this
61. Catcat - March 11, 2011 9:11 PM
He looks like a sweetie. He'll find a new home. And everyone so ready to take in a new dog, I encourage them to go to their local shelters. There are tons of dogs that need homes just as much as this guy.
I won't even bother to worry about the stupidity of @48.
That much ignorance is beyond remedy.
62. Srini - March 12, 2011 10:55 AM
@ 48 STFU and get a life dumb dickhead
63. Asocena - March 12, 2011 1:17 PM
A few more minutes in the fire, and with a little onions and garlic, he would have been delicious.
64. Srini - March 13, 2011 12:00 PM
@63, yeah right!. With you as the side dish
65. S11 - March 13, 2011 6:19 PM
Well, that's the Terminator time! I've found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tpe0iEl3NmE
66. Amber - March 14, 2011 11:25 AM
There are people who's pets ARE their kids and they're perfectly happy with no human children. People may think those people are sad or losers, but I think everyone in this forum will agree that @48 is the biggest loser of them all. It's really sad that you feel that was a waste of money when there's obviously so much love for this animal.
67. John Connor - March 14, 2011 11:23 PM
Terminator dog knows now why you cry, but it is something he can never do.
68. Bobtheslow - March 16, 2011 3:04 PM
His new owners nicknamed him Mr Burns. Yep definitely one of our geeks who adopted him.!
