Jan 20 2011Jurassic Park Theme Played 1,000% Slower

Note: The most romantic hour of audio to make sweet, prehistoric love to is after the jump.
This is John Williams' iconic theme to Jurassic Park slowed down 1,000%, stretching it out to just under an hour of pure, unadulterated sensuality. Just kidding, I adulterated it right before starting this post. FIRSTIES! Now I wanna hear it played backwards to see if it contains any secret messages about how to actually make dinosaurs. "Step 1: put your penis in one". DAMMIT YOU KNOW I'M STARTING FROM SCRATCH!
Hit the jump and prepare to be lullabied to sleep at your desk.
Must Listen: 'Jurassic Park' Theme Song Slowed Down To Create Hour Long Symphony [slashfilm]
Thanks to Patouh, who once had a friend listen to the entire 'Twilight' soundtrack backwards hoping to hear a secret message from Edward. *facepalm* YOU DON'T NEED FRIENDS LIKE THAT.

5. STFUP - January 20, 2011 10:43 AM
1000% slower? That's impossible. 100% slower would mean it's stopped playing, so what the heck is 1000% slower?
-
You can say it's been slowed down by a factor of 1000 (which it hasn't, actually), but you can't say it's 1000% slower.
6. Slim McLean - January 20, 2011 10:45 AM
wow stfup way to complain about shit that no one cares about.
7. bun - January 20, 2011 10:45 AM
No, 100% slower would mean it's doubled.
It's too early for math, you jerk.
8. shruup - January 20, 2011 10:49 AM
yeah can have 1000% slower it means its 11 times as long as it would be if played normally :)

19. the_tof - January 20, 2011 11:18 AM
1000% slower? Who talks like that? That was just intended to confuse everyone. Why not just say it was played at 10% of the original speed?
Cos GW thinks its so frikkin cute to say really big numbers. Like those stupid kids whose parents praised them for every little thing and now they think they're so precious and it just makes them that much more annoying.
GW: Jurassic Park times a billion times infinity plus one! (puts fingertips in dimples)
Me: (slap GW's spoiled brat face)
The content is blocked on our network, but if it's played at 1/10 speed wouldn't that make the piece be 50 minutes long? Also, it would have to be time stretched, not resampled, cos otherwise most of the notes would be subsonic...
20. BlackMetalChocobo - January 20, 2011 11:22 AM
Someone should do this with a Sunn O))) song, but I think that might create some sort of wormhole and we would all die.

Great, suddenly everyone is into classical music now
22. JB - January 20, 2011 11:32 AM

I'm pretty sure Audacity will do this, and I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they used. Audacity is open source and free to download.
25. dirtdan - January 20, 2011 11:54 AM
heard this a week and a half ago .... starting to feel like I should stop following this blog. It kind of sucks that everything that gets posted is stale.... Constant ranting by the author about dinosaur sex got old very fast.
26. McFeely Smackup - January 20, 2011 11:55 AM
"7. bun - January 20, 2011 10:45 AM
No, 100% slower would mean it's doubled."
that's even worse nonsense.
percentages are inherently a fraction of the original value, saying "x% slower" is already incorrect, like a double negative.
50% would mean it's doubled...as in it's being played at half speed. 1000% would mean it's 10x faster. 1000% slower...well, that just doesn't mean anything, any more than saying it's 10x slower.
People could really benefit from understanding the concepts of percentages.
27. Jonathan - January 20, 2011 12:09 PM
@McFeely: Your logic is 1,000% less accurate than Bun's.
28. your mother is great at math - January 20, 2011 12:24 PM
Ok ladies: PERCENT = Fraction of 100 denoted as 1/100th. The symbol % is used to denote percent and usually follows a number, for example 50% (literally meaning 50/100). So 1000% = 1000/100, and surpriZINGly easy to comprehend.

This was done using Paulstretch. A free and extremely small audio stretching program. Works on windows & mac OS.

This sounds like those binaural sounds that cults use, what a monotonous mess.

I've seen this elsewhere. Why is this making the rounds on the web? Sooooooo boring and lame...not to mention it's over 50 minutes long! Who has the time and patience to listen to this crap?!
38. Sup3rGr4n7 - January 20, 2011 3:20 PM
You can do this with a program called sound hack if your a mac user, if not then ProTools has a very effective time stretching feature.
Awesome sound though, really great use of the technology
39. The_tof - January 20, 2011 3:36 PM
26 is correct, but 23 who is also correct makes a much better point.
40. Calhoon - January 20, 2011 3:45 PM
You all need to chill and maybe get laid! I mean does it really fucking matter what percentage its actually slowed down by? No it doesn't! So take your thumb out of your ear and shove it back up your ass and spin for awhile. Anyway... It's a little long winded, but not bad.

You all are a bunch of tiny dick fags. Go do something constructive like clean out all the sticky moldy cottage cheese like substances, bugs, roting fetuses, rats and years of jizz buildup from the walls of your mothers very abused vag with your tongues or go ass rape yourselves with a loaded hair-trigger double barrel shot gun! Bunch of pathetic geeks. No wonder the only woman that will fuck you morons is your sex starved retarded ugly ass RuPaul lookalike mother. Go fucking drown yourselves in a pot-a-potty!

Oooooh, THAT'S why I stopped reading the Geekologie comments.
47. Really? - January 20, 2011 8:15 PM
@44, Let me start by saying.... it's PORT-a-potty retard,
secondly, if you are willing to put that much hate and passion behind a post to a bunch of people that you so call worthless. I think your original assessment of hating them is wrong, I think you actually subconsciously love them and you are so desperate to be one that you lash out over the fact you can't do it.. For whatever reason... Simple fact is people don't do things like you did out of hate. If you hate something you don't attack it head on, you ignore it and remove it from your life.... and yet, here you are.
48. FatmanPlayingwithhimself22 - January 20, 2011 8:42 PM
Giggity
49. Yokodimo - January 21, 2011 12:17 AM
@48 Then let me say this... Yes I know it's spelled port-a-potty! It was a simple typing error you worthless piece of shit. I'm so fucking glad that you're so perfect and never fucking had a typing error. Now as for the rest of the shit that you said. It's all a bunch of stupid nonsense. If anything your mother should of removed you from this life when you were a baby by shoving you worthless ass into a garbage disposal and chopped your ass into small chunks. How dare you say anything about my post anyway. Who in the fuck do you think you are Jesus Christ?
I'm allowed to say and hate anyone I fucking want because the good Queen of England says that I can you fat fucking limp dick piece of (c)um wad! So you sorry twat why don't you do us all a great favor and go end your life via shoving your damn head into a meat grinder! People like you make me want to bash your worthless ass heads into a brick wall. I swear you're probably a fat ugly jobless nerd who lives in his mums basement. You're a nobody you're worthless and you should suck off a donkey till your face turns purple and eyes pop. I hate lil cumsuppering fags like you. From now on don't ever open your fucking mouth about what I have to say again. Just stick to jerking off and fucking pigs because that's all you're good at anyway well besides licking your whore mums twat and asshole clean of all the (c)um that's built up on inside of them after walking the streets the night before.
That's the only reason why your mum keeps you around, you're not good for anything else from what it seems. Now STFU you fat cock sucking (c)um loving bitch and go back to taking it up the ass and sucking off random men to make money for mums coke habit. I swear people like you should be ripped from your mothers stomach when your just a fetus and tossed in a blender. The world needs to band people like you and like you mother from breeding period! All worthless scum of the earth that should be burned at a stake.
50. WorkSmarter - January 21, 2011 12:47 AM
I saved myself 55 minutes by just listening to the Jurassic Park theme at normal speed. And now I can listen to another dozen songs.

hey yokodimo, you're extensive use of adjectives reveals you've thought long and hard about the subject. Does OUR use of the internet bother you that much? I mean seriously....you're talking shit about people who use the SAME SITE YOU DO. derp.
also, the queen of england is a fucking slut.
54. marcus - January 21, 2011 1:52 AM
also, why do people tell the guy "good job" "you did just an amazing job keep it up."
he slapped on an eq and a volume control and called it a day. That little girl in the windows commercial could do it.

59. dur - January 21, 2011 9:34 AM
Great.. not only was this on reddit, originally, over a week ago, but I Watch Stuff had it up already. Ripping off your sister site without giving them credit. Nice.
60. Kassandra - January 21, 2011 10:33 AM
Reminds me of something they would play on the Prince of Egypt soundtrack. Its actually quite beautiful! :)
61. JJtoob - January 21, 2011 5:24 PM
Percentages aside, you can only slow down a digital track so much without artifacts (Just like digital zoom produces artifacts from doubling pixels in pictures), so either this came from an analog source, or they have a nice plug in to smooth out the rough waves.
62. JJtoob - January 21, 2011 5:56 PM
Nevermind, I thought audacity couldn't do this, but it can. Using Change Tempo effect does a straight out streching of the audio without fixing the gaps that occur from doing so. The best option to use is the Sliding Time Scale/Pitch Shift.. effect, which fills in the gaps so it sounds smooth as butter :)
63. Deorum - January 23, 2011 1:15 PM
You know, I don't think anyone has a problem with percentages here, the problem is defining the "slowness" of something. That's why it's silly to say it's x% slower. If you define it as how long it takes to do something (like finish playing, in which case slower pretty much means longer) then 1000% slower means it's been time stretched by a factor of 10.
And actually, if the original is 3:21 minutes (according to one youtube post) and this is 54:13, then (54*60+13)/(3*60+21) = 16.184, so it's more like 1600% slower (stretched by a factor of 16)
64. NinjaLombax - January 23, 2011 9:49 PM

That is beautiful. You have to listen to Brooks Was Here slowed down. It sounds brilliant. It is soooo peaceful and chill. Please listen you will not regret it: http://soundcloud.com/rolandmasisobando/brooks-was-here-800-slower
68. Wyrd Darcnyzz - February 2, 2011 9:44 PM
You know what? I'm in massage therapy, and math is only required for counting expenses. You know what I say to all of your complicated nit-picking at percentages? ~Dr. Evil voice~ "This song is one MEEELEON DOLLAARZ, err, percent slower." So there. It's a beautiful song, so just listen to it.
