Dec 1 2010TRON Light Cycle Replicas, Now With Video

lightcycle.jpg

Note: Video of the cycle's maiden voyages after the jump.

Remember the replica Light Cycles that Parker Brothers Choppers (not to be confused with the makers of Monopoly, Clue and Sorry!) were selling commissions for on eBay? Well the first couple have been made, and there's a video to prove it. Also, that aliens exist, BUT THE GOVERNMENT WON'T RELEASE THAT ONE.

The bike is supposed to be street legal, but it appears to have very little steering and it looks like it would lever over if you lean at all. The bike weighs 474 pounds and is a bit over 100 inches long and 23-inches wide. There are four of the ten bikes built left and they are going for $55,000 each now.

They do look impressive to say the least, although I was more than a little disappointed nobody took one full throttle. What is this, amateur hour? I'd have taken that puppy to light-speed(!!!!!!!!) AND THEN TURNED MY ROCKET PACK TO 11. Just sayin', they don't call me Evil Geeknievel for nothing! Actually, nobody calls me that. I did get called a wanker last night though, so there's that. Knock first -- you know the lock is broken!

Hit the jump for the video.

parker brothers choppers rides real tron light cycle [technabob]

Thanks to Jerry, who not only would have taken that thing to top-speed, he'd have jumped like eighty school-buses. Hardcore, HARDCORE! And to cameroni, who once set himself on fire and jumped through 20 hula-hoops. In a row. Without touching the sides. And to Matt, Watch-303 and rudy, who paid $5 to watch the show and all agree it was money well spent.

neat

i feel like they should have went over 3mph... just saying...

Meh

right angle turns my ass.

Yeah, I was really hoping to see one blasting by at around 88 mph. Sparks start flying, then a single trail of flame left behind...

... oh, wait... wrong geek mythos. Dammit.

@ 2 & 5: Ditto. That sure looks *really* slow.

Imagine what would happen if you came across a gang of bikers riding Harleys!

Man, seeing a normal person riding this makes the bike look so ridiculous haha. leave that shit to jeff bridges my man!

everyone who comments here should die by rectal prolapse and gangrene infection.

i want one

The original bikes were so much cooler.

I like how they have this rockin' music and then the guy rides the bike by kicking his feet. WTF?

Looks cool... till they start moving,

poor craftsmenship along with horrible designs where you can't even turn on that thing while looking like you are getting buttfucked by the bike. What a disaster and design fail, it doesn't even come close to the actual bike. If you look at the clip you can see how fucked up all the measurements are especially around the wheels.

That looks uncomfortable...

Looks like they might ejaculate if they hit the 10mph vibration.

these guys are asshats. they tried to sell these bikes before they even welded a single piece of metal, stole a bunch of Disney marketing photos to fool people into thinking they actually had something to sell, and lied about basic stuff like "street legal" and "fully functional street bike".

I'm not sure what state licenses bikes with no headlights, turn signals, or brake lights for street use...but it's probably the same state where roads don't have turns and the speed limit is 10mph.

@13 & 17

Indeed.

At 474 lbs I'm assuming it must have SOME sort of guts to it. But, if you can't turn it, you look goofy riding it, and are afraid to go over 10 mph what's the point? Plus why doesn't it sound like it hardly running? LOL @ the ebay buyers.

I'll be waiting for Disney to make the official release ;)

it really needs a street bike engine not a chopper one... + turning must be a bitch

They need to build the bike from AKIRA!! Infinitely cooler.

Sweet baby jesus, why did they put a v-twin in it? Besides the million other reasons that make this bike a piece of trash....a V-TWIN?!?! Fuck you, Parker Choppers. Stick to jerking off Harley customers.

they put a v-twin in it (I got $100 that says it's an off the shelf S&S engine) because that's all the custom bike shops do. They bend tube steel, weld it together, bolt on off the shelf engines and other parts. bam, you're a custom bike shop.

That's not to downplay the creativity that goes into it, but it's just not as complex as people seem to think.

These guys also claimed to be offering this bike in an ELECTRIC motor...no sign of that though.

It's an upgrade 4 Batman. lol

Cant wait to see this movie!!

Yes, def bad choice of engine. Watch this to see what this bike could have sounded like - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cuyUWHozAvM

So it goes 20 feet.. almost the distance it looks like they pushed off on a downgrade with some engine noise added in later.. What a piece.

Hey! this thing doesn't turn at 90` angles, fail. Oh btw GW a lot of vids (including this one) are getting nerfed over some corp dick suck not approving the idea of it being shared.

@ 29. Yes, it's a v-twin, not and S&S though, they used a Suzuki TL 1000 engine, aka the widow maker. However I agree that it looks like crap, wheels look all sorts of just plain wrong, and doesn't turn, and seems rather slow (that may just be the squid riding it).

Perfect for Florida!

:)

LOL

A Unicorn would be more practical to ride than that piece of shit.

I like how the foot rests only work if your applying pressure against them, so if you were for instance going at 12mph, and you relaxed your leg, gravity would shove your foot, toe first into the ground.

Nothing more than a modified motorcycle with a light cycle shell over top of it. I could see the front tire as it was coming straight at the camera. definitely not worth $55K.

Is this bike going faster than 3mph?
If not, they should have made it with pedals

If I paid $55k and got that thing, I'd be furious. And that music is terrible. I'm so tired of rappers taking classic rock songs and putting a silly hook on it.

this thing looks hueg

I'd love to know how it would feel to die spread eagle on that 'bike'. Not to mention the back pain that follows.

Regardless of looks, I'm only 5'9'' so that would be the deal breaker right there hahaha, this looks like to you need to be at least 6'3'' to ride.. at least

It looks like you have to be about 7 feet tall to be able to drive the thing.

$55k for a custom motorcycle that would lose a race to a 3 year old on a bigwheel = FAIL

The reason the thing is only shown moving in a straight line at 5mph is any kind of turn is going to be greeted by the sound of fiberglass grinding into asphalt. There's no clearance for that thing to lean into a turn.

I don't know that I'd buy a bike from people who don't know bikes lean.

i like thats enough

i like thats enough

At least they played it in SLOW-MOTION so we could see all the action...

Sounds like a bunch of Haters on here. Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate Hate!!! Testing the bike means exactly that... testing it, not racing it on a track somewhere. Besides, I bet nobody here could even afford one even if they weren't sold already so... Keep on Hating!!!!
