Dec 9 2010 Daft Punk/Disney/Monster/TRON Headphones

tron-headphones-1.jpg

I can't really wear headphones because my left ear's like two inches lower than the right and I look like Sloth and Quasimodo's lovechild, but -- oh I'm sorry -- am I making you hot? Moving on. Monster, best known for hocking immorally overpriced HDMI cables, has teamed up with Disney and Daft Punk to produce these TRON-inspired headphones. Admittedly, they do look cool, but they also cost $350 AND ARE THE RESULT OF A MONSTER/DISNEY MASH-UP, which I, for one, refuse to endorse. "But GW -- I thought you'd endorse anything for the right price." And no, I have ethics and standards now.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! Ethics and standards. God, I almost blew the back out of my sweatpants trying to keep a straight face. Send me a pair and the endorsement's yours.

Hit the jump for a couple more product shots.

Monster builds Daft Punk Edition Tron Headphones, unwittingly unleashes moral quandary of a generation [engadget]

Thanks to Dany H, who had wireless headphones implanted in his ears and sometimes picks up truckers' CB conversations. Cool! "This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there."

pretty sweet.

i think these ar pretty un useful i mean they only light up and its kind of boring so dont get it

@2 Yes, these would definitely be more useful if they played music or something.

Why the hell are headphones getting bigger? And where's the red version? And $350? GTFO. Man I sound like Walter this morning.....

Those headphones look like they belong in tron less than the fat tron guy in tights

YEEEEHH I bring daft punk to the geek readin kidss

I WILL find a way to not pay so much for these.. and they will be mine.

and when I put them on, I'll open my eyes to blue streaks, derezzed pumpin and daft punk handin me champagne! EXTENSIVE FANTASIES FTW

These would be cool for a disk jockey playing at a rave ") that's all....

Head phone, phone head, blah! I'd rather play frisbee with Quorra the Explorer.

I love merch-an-dise Tron-yy

I'm all for product promotions and mashups, but if you just saw these headphones without any details, is there anything that says "tron" or "Daft Punk" to you about them?

They just seem like an overly styled set of headphones that Monster got a promotional merchandising agreement for.

I'm just waiting/hoping/praying for this trend of "sterile white/jet black/neon cyan" color schemes in product design to fade away. I'm so sick of seeing every new piece of technology looking like a Wii.

and I'm sick of the Wii looking like Apples entire line of products from 10 years ago.

If the edges we're blades one could use them as pizza-cutters! Or not!

I hear ya McFeely, I feel the same way (@5) This tacky, downspiral trend is just another reminder to me why the world is going to end in 2012.

I dunno, I think this ones are better:

REAL tron headphones would float an inch from your head while lasering the audio directly into your eardrum and without any attachment cables

THESE poshy, icebar looking muffs belong on a breathmint dance party commercial

@16 well since what you're describing doesn't exist for another eight thousand years or so, I think for now these will do.

these would get jacked so quick , glowing lights that say "steal me"

@17 They won't do DH, they are unfortunately unacceptable & didn't hit the mark. Everyone would be like 'zomgsaux' ect if they did. They were stolen from a hip hop dj at a party in an ice cave doing a breathmint commercial with strippers pole dancing on giant icicles. I was there

It also shouldn't take eight thousand years before craniutation devices such as headphones, smartbuds (nano-phones) go mainstream, but since so many things in tron float around - these powderpuffy headphones shouldn't hug your skull like todays headphones do

Dont get me wrong though, I've seen tron over a dozen times & am a huge fan, I'm just fearful that the new one is going to be another 'clash of the titans' letdown. But I hope these headphones do pop up in the movie sometime and I end up liking them..... preferably during the breathmint scene though when they slide down an ice tunnel & stumble upon an underground party or something

@ 16 I would pay $350 for those !!

These are not Tron or Daft Punk at all, plz try never again!

That side shot (#2) looks like it needs wing support.

@4: getting bigger? Not sure what you mean. Sennheiser, AKG, Audio-Technica, Sony, Beyerdynamic, Ultrafone, Denon, etc. have been producing full size open and closed headphones for decades.

Check out the Beyerdynamic T1, the Sennheiser HD800, the Audio-Technica W5000, the Sony Z1000, the Denon D7000, the Grado PS1000, the HifiMan HE6, etc. $350 is not outrageous for high-end, extremely refeined, extremely detailed headphones. Unfortunately, the Tron phones likely can't hold a candle to any of the above in the sound department.

Nearly bought some beats today... then didn't. I suggest others do likewise.

@22 Agreed

I have the Sony Noise cancelle and I would never pay 100 plus for anyting without noise cancelling

If they had a version with a microphone, I'd seriously think about it...
