Nov 22 2010What, No Pliers?: Belt With 6 Integrated Tools

The $55 Snow Toolbelt from skate/snowboard clothing manufacturer 686 was designed for men of winter who don't want to carry around a pocketful of screwdrivers for fear of falling and puncturing a lung. Which is a very real possibility. It feature 8, 10 and 11mm wrenches, a bottle opener, and flat/Phillips head screwdrivers. It comes in three different styles (original, small stud and large stud) and sizes M (30-34) L (34-38) and XL (38-42). Now I know what you're thinking, and yes -- you could probably get away ordering an XL and punching a few extra notches in it. Whatever the case, your ass WILL show when in use. Now would be a good time to learn how to wipe.

Thanks to the TOASTer, who agrees it needs a small axe in case you get lost in the woods and need to cut down a tree and fashion a pole vault so you can launch yourself above the canopy and get your bearings. Survival 101.

7. Richard McBeef - November 22, 2010 11:53 AM
anyone that buys that thing likely doesn't have any need for tools and is a huge tool in and of themselves.

Can also be used as a garrote.

That studded belt is really gonna set off my Marty McFly vest
15. Libby - November 22, 2010 12:18 PM
This belt has been out for 6 years now...Seriously. 686 started making it in like 2003 or 2004 and everyone had one.

18. me.vicky - November 22, 2010 12:42 PM
The only problem is, you have to unbuckle the belt to use it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the whole point of wearing a belt was to keep your pants from falling off.
19. McFeely Smackup - November 22, 2010 12:50 PM
great, so all you have to to is take your pants off to turn a fucking screw?
Is clipping a leatherman to your belt such an onerous thing?
20. Domino - November 22, 2010 1:07 PM
This belt is nothing new. I've had one without the studs for over 5 years. It has come in hand many times. I advise anybody to get one... but look for a better price... I got mine for $30.

This idea was taken (cough stolen cough) from a friend.
23. ciao - November 22, 2010 2:11 PM
Wear this toolbelt with a tool-belt. :D
24. kmath - November 22, 2010 2:50 PM
I don't know. I find belts may not be what you want to handle, especially a belt bottle opener. A belt is where your hands go after the toilet ..but before the sink in the washroom, so I wouldnt want it near the end of my bottle.
25. Gary - November 22, 2010 2:57 PM
People who are talking shit about this are morons. Did you fail to see the part that mentioned that this is marketed towards skate/snowboarders? I am a snowboarder, and I always forgot/misplace my small toolkit that I take to the mountain to adjust my bindings. THAT'S what this is for.
You don't have to take off your pants - just take the belt off. If your pants are so loose that they'll fall right off without a belt, you're wearing pants that are too damned big.
Also, this product is years old.
26. Richard McBeef - November 22, 2010 3:22 PM
@26 - Oh, I see. I thought they marketed it to skaters and snowboarders because they are giant douches and they could use the tools to tinker around with their bolt on vaginas.
27. colton wyndham - November 22, 2010 3:52 PM
fucking knock off, I had one from that company "independent" when I was like 13 years old [22 now]. it was EXACTLY the same.
28. Jennifer K. - November 22, 2010 4:13 PM
Try getting that belt through TSA security...You'd be BODY SCANNED! LOL!
29. Max - November 22, 2010 5:05 PM
Actually have one and have used it for about 2 or 3 years now. Saved me snowboarding when a binding came loose. Also used it for several other "repairs" when I didn't have access to my tool box. And TSA didn't care when I flew in early October.
30. Dr. - November 22, 2010 8:14 PM
@ 12 & 29:
I've had the single driver/non-studded version for about 4 years now.
I go through metal detectors at airports without even a hint of a beep. Never had to take it off for a scan.
31. Agua Bendita - November 22, 2010 8:35 PM
Awesome! Can I have one of this?

This belt has been around for a while, and it is really not all it is cracked up to be.
The bottle opener was a big fail as far as I was concerned. It did not work well at all.
Thankfully I got mine on sale at the end of a season for about $25.
Great concept though.
Now the Reef Fanning flip flops with the opener on the bottom? That works much better. (once you get over the fact it is on the bottom of the flip flop.)

Ummm yeah this is totally more useful and convenient than my leatherman pfffftt. I guess it could work when you have no tools on hand and in dire need of a screw driver. It looks like it's made out of cheap metal and will break easy... I can see how this would be useful for a snowboarder and skateboarder.
41. Hellhound - November 27, 2010 4:26 PM
About damn time they published my idea.

My highschool boyfriend had one of these - TEN YEARS AGO. Way to stay ahead of the times.
