*sigh* It's becoming more repetitive and uncreative yet. The monsters look like they had no concept at all, as if someone had explosively diarrhea'd against a wall and they kept making new pokemon out of it. They all look the same, really, except those, which look like a reskin of some of the Gen2/Gen3/Gen4-monsters.
I miss the times of Red/Blue, when every pokemon had its own traits...

Ok, to those calling these uncreative, fucking look at Voltorb, electrode, Dugtrio, magneton, ditto, Dodrio, ekans, and arbok...seriously if anything these new abstract pokemon are more creative, they are just outside your liking range, so what others like them, as do I, and I've been playing since red and blue >:(

Pretty sure the little blue one with the beard on the mid-left of the homepage image was inspired by The King of Town from Homestar Runner.

I think these may actually be better than the third and fourth generation designs, on average. The fire and water starters are pretty terrible, although the water one's evolutions are okay, even if its final doesn't remotely resemble the first two. The fire one, though... ugh. A pig, really? But I actually think quite a few of the others look solid.

Also, I think the idea that Pokemon designs have been getting worse is fueled mostly by nostalgia. I mean, Jynx, Mr. Mime, and Porygon are all pretty ridiculous looking. Granted, Nosepass is just unforgiveable, but I don't think the designs have really been declining all that much.

One thing that gets me: this fire starter is the third one in a row that has had fighting as a secondary type. Meanwhile, the grass and water ones get no second type love. C'mon, the grass one's a snake for crying out loud; it should totally be poison. Grass/poison just works, yet there hasn't been one since Bulbasaur.

While some of the above Pokemon look retarded, theres always been Pokemon that look that way likeeee Bidoof, FOR GODS SAKE BIDOOF WAS HORRIBLE. There has also been good ones from all the batches of Pokemon, hell some of these are cool looking. I just wish Game Freak would change the overall game and make it so you don't catch Pidgey and Rattata knock offs for the first hour of the game, Also maybe i don't wanna start off from the smallest damn town in the game? Should also be able to pick or create a character, just sayin'.

I like the hermit crab, the metal ant, the fire pig... some of them are actualy pretty neat.

Even though the pokemon keep getting worse with each generation, they souldn't stop. New generations of children need to have something of their own to enjoy. Sure we got the good ones from back in the day but they also need to enjoy pokemon like we did when we were kids.

I've been playing since red and blue and it does seem like a lot of people are just jaded about everything after the first two generations or something. In every pokemon game there's always been a handful of stinkers and a handful of cool looking ones, it's just a case of how many. Personally I like a lot of the new ones and I'm not gonna immediately dismiss this one. I know it's already been said, but to everyone claiming they're lacking in creativity: VOLTORB AND ELECTRODE BITCHES.

Them looking like shit has nothing to do with nostalgia, it has to do with them looking like shit. I have honestly seen dozens of fake pokémon that I loved a load more then what they have come up with. Granted though, there are some pretty good ones in there as well. I'd say I like about 2/5 of them.

Thing is, the designs just don't make sense, or they're just ugly. And they're lazy too. I know we had Dugtrio and Magneton in the 1st gen, and that's all the more reason why we shouldn't have more of that crap again with those Gears or icecreamcone. That hermit crap is literally just parasect but instead of a mushroom it has a giant rock on its back.

As for the starters, they had so much potential and they threw it away, such a shame...

Water type: Although I can somewhat understand the evolution, they should have continued into making him an even more badass, on 2 feet water fighting type. Its also just weird how drastically different his final evolution is compared to the previous 2 forms.

Fire type: I don't really have problems with despite the fact that this is the 3rd fire/fight type starter. A Fire/Ground or Fire/Dark and an awesome boar design on FOUR feet would have looked much cooler and made more sense.

Grass Type: I'm totally ok with how he evolves into a giant snake, but the design on his final evolution is just Urgh. IT could have looked so much nicer and instead it looks like a snake that has been thrown up on.

I could do this for every single one on this list but I'm just not gonna bother more, just repeating myself one more time: It's because the designs are shit, not cause of nostalgia, cause the first gen had its share of shit designs as well.

These look amazing and Pokémon is awesome. You can hate all you want but it will be a great game! Paint me exited :)

I've always been into Pokémon games (NOT the show) and I must say, I don't like these. Too much of the previous pokémon has been recycled. Yes, they've become lazy, a lot look just plain stupid, uncreative and just friggin' lame.

However, I like some and as always, I'll play the game for about 100 hours and then throw it aside like every other Pokémon game. =D

Imo Silvr was the best but I still like the new pokemon, sure some of them look like they were high when they created them, but some are cool

Some of them are good but others are just god aweful. Like a friggin Zues like thing that comes in three different colors or the two with wierd faces that look like they could be Dunsporace evos. And the worst thing about it is the Luvdisc/Torous/Cacnea looking evolutions dont even evolve from them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come on for craps sake! And the mijumaru final evolution makes NO sense! It looks like a Norwal and a dog mixed together. I am a fan of the chandaleer ghost thing, the three types of monkeys, tsutajas final evo, hydra thing, mole knife thing, and for some reason the pinkish fighting type that kind of looks like a cat at 16 down. But then again a lot of people hated the 4th generations at first so maybe they'll grow on me, but i kind of doubt it.

Firstly, compare the 2nd gen with the 3rd gen and the 3rd gen looks completely different, but it turned out to be a pokemon revolution.

When i first saw some of the 4th gen pokemon i thought they were dreadful, especially floatzel and bidoof, but some of them like carnivine and roserade made it really worth while and i grew to love them.

I think the same things are going to happen this time. I mean, some of the pokemon look quite bad (yes, i am looking at the ice cream cone, tbh, mime jr looks more like a delicious dessert than those icicles) but some are really worth it, i mean, octopus with a mustache, a chandelier and monkeys, yes epic monkeys. Plus theres the cute squirly fluffy thing, an electric eel, an electric spider and to top it all off a sarcophogus.

But even if the pokemon arent all to your taste ( ahem, bin bag) there are still loads of new twists and the best 3d handheld games graphics so far. Isometric design, eat your heart out. The new elite 4 rotation is brilliant, plus there's new evo methods, the dream world and the proffesor is a young woman (finally) with a really cute freind (makomo: glasses girl fetish fuel for the win).

Not to mention the pokemon record breaking feautures including biggest city, biggest dessert, most gym leaders and first time you become the champion by not defeating the champion!!?? Guess they haven't become as mass produced and dull as you might think. Looks like this time they decided that since the game is going through such a revamp that the pokemon deserve a major revamp too (hence why none of the new pokemon are evos of old ones).

People complain 600+ is too much to remember. I ask are you the kind of people who can't remember thier own phone number? Or maybe you're one of those people who only bothers to remember the names of the 'strong' pokemon? Either way, if you can count to 1000 you can remember more than 600 things, so really it's just laziness.

The first 250 pokemon were all designed by one guy. Look it up. He's no longer designing them solo, and it's hard to believe that a team of artists can't top his original designs, but, there it is.

Still, I think this generation is much better than the last one. That Sarcophagus one is pretty neato.

This is still a bunch of freakinmg crap it all sucks mega balls plus some people would want to not show all pokemon so they could be a bit suprised.

These pokemon look horrendous!
Pokemon use to look realistic its just that they have elemental powers.
Even some pokemon in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum are acceptable.
They really fucked up on this generations pokemon though.

The sunfish for example should of been some dark blue color.
