Aug 19 2010If Historical Events Had Facebook Pages

Note: This is only two of several, hit the jump to see all of them.
What if historical events had Facebook pages? I'd have a lot more friends, that's what! Psyche, they probably wouldn't even accept my requests. THE BLACK PLAGUE DOESN'T EVEN WANT TO BE FRIENDS? WTF?! Oh my God, it's happened -- I'm officially a loser. Kidding! It's been official for years. I swear, one day I'm gonna move out of this basement and really make something of myself. And not a crash-test dummy either, although I am open to that if the money's good. I call the trunk!
Hit the jump for the rest.

If Historical Events had Facebook Statuses [coolmaterial]
Thanks to Marcos and teknikflickan, who're convinced the government sends them top secret spy intel through their mini-feeds. Okay, you two are officially crazy (WTF are you doing -- don't blow our cover!).

Waitaminute, sorry for the triple post, but why is the "original" status update pretty much at the time it happened, and the comments only a few days, hours, or minutes ago? If we go with the fictional Facebook status updates, and the post was originally at the time it happened, the "friends" would comment promptly wouldn't they? So most everything would say about the same lenght of time ago as the original update.

@5, 11, 21, 23............You think them doing a space shuttle explosion is a little too much???
7 people died when the Columbia exploded on re-entry and you dont like that mentioned but the titanic one doesnt bother you?. Ignorant history FAIL.
Roughly 1,517 people died. 50 of those were children. And unlike the astronaughts who were probably instantly obliterated, those on the titanic probably went through minutes, perhaps longer of mind bending terror before being plunged into freezing water in the middle of the night and drowning.
In case you only find Columbia distressing because you think it was 'just Americans'.....there were 119 Americans that died when Titanic sank.
Not sure if "Jack" was one of them.....i have a feeling he was made up.
28. DH - August 19, 2010 11:08 PM
@27 THANK YOU. I was about to throw shit down as well
they are ALL hilarious. you cannot laugh at one disaster and history and not another. it's either all terrible or all funny. AAAND IT'S THE LATER HAHAA
29. Lixie - August 20, 2010 1:44 AM
I don't know why the Columbia one seems more sad, at first I thought it was because they were written as the astronauts...but then I realized Abe Lincoln is to....
so... I don't know why, but it makes me sad :(

36. meh - August 20, 2010 5:35 AM
I thought they were all pretty funny.. I think the reason most people see the Columbia as being sad is because it was relatively recent and many of us remember it happening, watching it on the news and witnessing the disaster. The Titanic sinking happened before we were born so it seems more fictional and less of a disaster (even more so after the movie).
What does it matter anyways? Who cares if someone else thought it wasn't funny and you did? ... O wait, 4got I waz on teh interwebz :X

Hey J
Ya know, I will be the first to admit that I completely overlooked that fact and I am glad you brought it to my attention. While I did find the Colombia one funny I just thought it was messed up, but in the grand scheme of things that would make the titanic one messed up as well... but it isn't. I take back my original comment, and they are all great!
Thanks for pointing that out sir.
40. Sizzle - August 20, 2010 8:01 AM
They were all funny. Yes, even Colombia.
And yes, agreeing with whoever said it first - it seems more fucked up because most of us remember it happening. I find it awesome that whoever did this "went there." Good thing there wasn't one about 9/11!

49. http://www.confessionsofamanwhore.com - August 20, 2010 1:08 PM
Most of them were pretty funny, but that shuttle one was just super bad taste. How is 7 astronauts dying ever going to be funny?
50. Alexandra♪ - August 20, 2010 1:22 PM
lol the church hates facts.
51. Courageous - August 20, 2010 1:46 PM
So 7 astronauts dying is not funny, but 1500 passengers on the Titanic is? What about the millions of innocent dinosaurs that died when the meteor struck? Or poor Julius Ceasar? Thay are historical facts that happened. Just because they are more recent doesn't make them less funny. Actually, it would have been funnier if they had included the Columbia shuttle as well... then NASA could have said: "Fuck... not again"...
Lighten the fuck up!!
52. SoulHonky - August 20, 2010 2:14 PM
Hilarious. All I would add is the Church responding with "your an idiot" and then someone correcting their grammar (and then the Church loses their shit.)
53. Gargald - August 20, 2010 2:57 PM
The Columbia one is in bad taste.
54. Gargald - August 20, 2010 3:04 PM
@ 51. Courageous
Julius ceasar was a corrupt totalitarian ruler. The Dinosaurs, as cool as they are, are just fucking dinosaurs. The passengers aboard the Titanic were people who paid to go on a giant ass boat for their selfish entertainment.
...The astronauts on Columbia risked and tragically lost their lives for the efforts of the betterment of mankind. There is nothing funny about that.
55. FiveOh - August 20, 2010 3:36 PM
@54 A majority of the people who died on the Titanic were crew members and third class passengers just trying to get to America. But it was a fancy boat so I guess they all deserved it.
56. yellowcamaro - August 20, 2010 4:34 PM
Titanic one is NOT FUNNY.
57. CaptainWrong - August 20, 2010 4:55 PM

58. LaTuFu - August 20, 2010 4:55 PM
Nope, sorry, completely disagree with the people that can't find the humor in this.
Well done, very funny.
If you can't laugh at this, you need to study human nature in more detail.
59. Maxwerm - August 20, 2010 5:13 PM
The people crying over the Columbia joke are wacko patriot types who call every fire-fighter a hero and have "these colors don't run" bumper stickers.
Show me in the joke where is celebrates the astronauts dying.
Sometimes life shits on you. Pretending it isn't shit doesn't makes you an idiot, it makes you humorless.
60. lolsaurus - August 20, 2010 5:25 PM
Uh... Columbia sad? Titanic sad? HELLO. ALL THE DINOSAURS DIED. NOBODY FINDS THAT ONE SAD? Rewatch Land Before Time.
61. Paul - August 20, 2010 5:30 PM
Why are most of you tearing this thing apart. If you don't like it, keep it to yourself. Besides, if you can't learn to laugh at the darker times of our history, or at least accept that people will use them for humor, you are being as ignorant as the one making the joke. There were far worse events in history that have been the butt end of a joke, some of them being on going problems. So just lighten up. This isn't a battle of the morals of humor.
62. Michael - August 20, 2010 6:26 PM
The reason the Columbia one is worse than Titanic is that the Titanic is a ship talking about itself while the Columbia says "on OUR way back" which makes one immediately think of the passengers on board.
Plus we're not as desensitized to it like we are to Lincoln's brains painting the theater walls.
63. Sally - August 20, 2010 7:31 PM
@15 I noticed, too.
@31 Nope.
@Everyone who thought Titanic and Asteroid were sad as well as Columbia, I agree.
But at least the cockroaches survived.
64. Sally - August 20, 2010 7:34 PM
Oh, and I also agree with @62. True, true.
But yeah, this is pretty funny.
65. DH - August 20, 2010 8:28 PM
@59 BINGOO
sad that some people can't grasp the magnitude of older tragedies. "ohhh well the columbia accident happened in our lifetime, we still remember it thus it's more tragic and compelling than older tragedies!"
Bull shit. Over a thousand people died on the titanic, whether it was in the nineties or the 1910's, it happened.
and @54 you seriously fail dude. "their own selfish entertainment" yeah, go tell that to the people who worked day and night for years, could barely feed their children properly and lived absolutely miserable lives JUST FOR THE OPPORTUNITY to make it to America and try to have a proper life for their family. yep, soo selfish.
66. Dave - August 20, 2010 9:05 PM

68. ooga booga - August 21, 2010 12:14 AM
Pretty much all FTW, though in some cases it was a close game. Here's a suggestion for another: the end of the US Civil War, using this sauce material
http://www.eyewitnesstohistory.com/appomatx.htm
The Biblical Exodus might work along the following lines.
Pharoah: Blood? Frogs? Lice? WTF
Yahweh: More where that came from. LMPG!
Pharoah: Enuf already. Beat it!
Moses: We're outta here
Pharoah: After them!
Moses: OMG! This way guyz!
Yahweh: Trust me, I'll take care of the water.
Egyptian Army: No submarines for like millenia. We are so F*ed!
Jews: 40 years till we get home? Who made these maps anyway? FAIL
etc.
69. gargald - August 21, 2010 12:39 AM
@65
Are you seriously even thinking of comparing poor immigrants lives to those of astronauts? I don't think you really know what it means to be an astronaut then. An astronaut is pretty much the best human being there is. I know this is subjective, but probably every life single life lost in the Titanic isn't worth the life of a single Astronaut.
70. Lakawak - August 21, 2010 1:37 AM
"hit the jump" is a meaningless expression that signifies to the world that you should not be taken seriously as an intelligent adult.
71. Melly - August 21, 2010 8:17 PM
#69, normally such a pleasant number, has been ruined by a complete fu@kwad. Thanks a lot you tool.
72. cmj123 - August 22, 2010 5:51 AM
Lets just wait until the Astro-titanic sinks and we'll all have something to laugh about!
73. Anonymous - August 22, 2010 8:28 AM
I honestly think that most people laughed at the WORDING, not the events. Wording DOES affect how humorous or serious something is. It's how language and human nature work. Think about euphimisms. "Kicked the bucket" sounds less harsh than "died", right?
74. Jelly - August 22, 2010 9:07 AM
I'm a youngster and I don't know much about the Columbia RocketShip thingy. Why is everyone touched up about these guys?
75. Amanda - August 22, 2010 5:47 PM
The Galileo one is priceless! And I love the subtle Newton one :)
Keep em coming!
76. Courageous - August 23, 2010 8:48 AM
Gargald,
I guess you did not read my entire post, because you totally missed the part where I said to "Lighten the fuck up!"
Only a compete moron would demonstrate publicly what a complete ass-hat he is.
Now, once more for the tards: "Lighten. The. Fuck. Up!" This shit is funny. Either accept that, or go let the crap that you perceive to be thought be typed out on a site for morons such as yourself. I have a low tolerance for stupidity and you have gone way over the limit you complete waste of oxygen!
77. Katie - August 23, 2010 7:22 PM
@69 Astronauts aren't "the best human beings." They certainly aren't the only ones who risk their lives on a daily basis. I agree they are people to be looked up to, but placing their life over 1500 others is awful.
You could argue people on the Titanic bettered mankind too. They taught mankind about boat safety in the harshest way possible and showed us glimpses of the best of mankind. "Dressed in our best and prepared to go down as gentlemen." Poise in the face of certain death; something all of us could do with learning from.
By the by, I thought all of it was funny. :P
78. Courageous - August 24, 2010 10:31 AM
Katie,
You rock! There I said it!
79. Mrmaginz - August 26, 2010 3:09 AM
Ummm....haven't tragedies been used for entertainment since man could walk? I mean seriously, drama itself is about turning people's problems into entertainment. Look at reality shows. Shallow drama.
Anywhoo, laughing at tragedy is the same knee-jerk reaction some get when some total douche-bag totals his bike when doing some lame trick for his GF, then cracking his ass-bone in the resulting crash. Misfortune is funny when it happens to other people.
Yes, that sounds heartless. But it's also true.
80. Evan - October 26, 2010 3:40 AM
@69
You're an idiot, just because they were astronauts doesn't mean they were "better people" than anyone else, including people on the Titanic, so hows about you shut the fuck up, before you go on saying stupid shit?
kthanks
ANYWAY
I don't understand why some people don't think the columbia one is funny, but the others are, I mean, sure roughly 1500 people died in the sinking of the Titanic, but hey, who knows how many dinosaurs lost their lives to that big scary meteorite, amiright?
81. DJ Manni - November 9, 2010 1:22 PM
The titanic one is by far the funniest lmao.
The arguments on this thread are absurd, it's all just an hilarious joke so just enjoy it.

I found the Columbia one disturbing, regardless of what you tell me i SHOULD feel. The titanic was funny because I didn't watch it happen live. The Columbia wasn't because it happened too recently and so it's just disturbing and sad.
And to all of you like #27 and #28, if you're going to call people out on stuff, make sure you can spell/use proper grammar. I would have respected your comments/opinions if you had been able to formulate a sentence correctly, but since you can't i find that despite myself i regard you with mild contempt and annoyance.
Other than the Columbia, the rest were all really frickin funny. I especially liked how Will Smith was John Hancock. xD (That movie was great, btw)
I couldn't make it through my boring high school classes if i didn't have Geekologie. Thanks, GW! :D
