Jul 20 2010Parents/Law Enforcement Concerned Digital Drug Use May Lead To Analog Drug Use

Seen here looking a little spacy herself, this is a news report by Adrianna Iwasinkski regarding the dangers of digital drugs leading teens down the slippery slope to analog drugs and, eventually, to turning tricks in the mall parking lot to get their next fix (been there done that, amirite?). If you're unfamiliar with digital drugs, you can read the old Geekologie article about i-Doser, or jump right into the video. But just a heads up (in case my parents are reading): Geekologie does not condone drug use of any kind -- be it digital, analog, digilog OR analital. Except booze, which isn't so much a drug as it is a miracle elixir that keeps me sane ($5 HJ's if you bring me an Orange Julius).
Hit it for the parental fear that's sweeping the nation.
Thanks to Megan and rhino, who don't need drugs because they're content huffing paint thinner. Save a rag for me.

note that at around 2:19, the time displayed on the ipod/iphone is 4:20. "oh shit, it's 4:20, time to GET HIGH on BINAURAL BEATS!"

6. ORLY - July 20, 2010 7:11 PM
These tones and beats have been around since the start of digital music. Listen to my Last.Fm here.
http://www.last.fm/user/MrFusco
It's called AMBIENT music. They might as well make indian wood flutes with a babbling brooke in the background illega too. Or what about the sounds of an ocean or thunder or rain? So any and all of these relaxation songs are now "idrugs". God damn stupid idiot kids getting "high" because they are a bunch of emo puss's.
I've been listening to ambient music for years. This is nothing new, and I swear to God if my music gets banned for this reason, I'll *uck someone up!

Oklahoma: Where inbreds get high off of annoying sounds...
11. wes - July 20, 2010 7:31 PM
Hey man, don't knock the beats, man. You don't know what its like. Picture a rainbow world with unicorns. Now picture the opposite of that. A droning sound that bores you endlessly.
They get me really high. I'll suck your dick if you got some beats on you.
12. Ace - July 20, 2010 7:31 PM
So this is equivalent to ACTUALLY doing the drug that these media deemed "Digital Drugs" seem to imitate?
It's not a narcotic you morons. It has no ingredients and wasn't cut with anything. It's an MP3 file! And unfortunately for you stupid fucking assholes who want to control every aspect of your children's lives, MP3's are not illegal.
Would you rather them use their headphones to get high or a bong? Or would you prefer a needle? Pills maybe?
Yeah, those are a much safer bet.
13. wes - July 20, 2010 7:40 PM
This video makes me want to smoke really bad. Fucking hate America. Kids see this shit, and they think "these assholes freak out about everything." And then they do the drugs that they really don't want them to do. You know what, thank you moronic news station.. maybe this is one small step for legalizing marijuana.

17. The Sero - July 20, 2010 8:07 PM
See, while I think the whole "proven safe" will be exaggerated, and should be tested further, the whole "soft drugs leading to hard drugs" argument is as shit as it ever was. People either will, or wont, and not a damn thing you've (governments) ever done has changed that.

21. Aaron - July 20, 2010 8:28 PM
Its a binural sound wave. These parents are fucking retarded. Its complete harmless noise that induces somewhat like effects comparable to actual drug effects. Complete harmless effects, completely natural high the same way you get addicted to a certain band or song. Its ulimately the kids choice at the end of the day to either stick to binural or move onto harder drugs. Banning these sound files ewill not keep kids safe because there will always be a new way or craze on getting high for teenagers and students. Parents need to slacken up and remember that if kids want to get high, they WILL get high.

Proof that the REAL GW has left the building.
He would never put some pussy disclaimer about drugs in a post.
He would condone alcohol AND weed in most posts.

@ 4 & 17 that 4:20 on the iPod/Phone clock is priceless! What is not priceless, however, is this dirty hippie music.
This news clip is a great example of people's ignorance of science and technology fueling their jackass fears.
I had an MRI once and as I lied listening to the machine do it's thing to me (oh yeah), making some rhythmic sounds, I got really zoned out. Now I'm hooked on horse tranquilizers!
29. Matheus - July 20, 2010 11:06 PM
This iDoser thing is actually very, very old. I used to try it when you were supposed to dwnload a program to decode the "dose files" and there were very few doses. Didn't really work for me or my friends, so I stopped.
30. bobabooi - July 20, 2010 11:09 PM
I straight up driveingthe 112 miles to the only orange julius I know of.
31. CPT Obvious - July 20, 2010 11:33 PM
I know this prostitute down the street who lets me pay her in drugs. Boy is she gonna be happy when I give her this I-dose I just downloaded for here fix for the day!!!
This is perfect, now I can give her the I-dose on a floppy disk and I get to keep the cocaine and the whiskey all for myself!!!
32. Binary_Beatmaster - July 21, 2010 12:00 AM
So I've downloaded iDoser and listened to the preinstalled "drugs" because ain't no shit way I'd pay for fake shit. So I listened to alcohol, which if there are kids who do this instead of drink, they are stupid. So, I listened I was getting pissed off and went to get off of the couch. I couldn't move my head. I could move every part of my body but when I tried to move my neck all that would happen is my muscles tensed and I couldn't move it. So I didn't want to try it again, even though I was sure noise couldn't seriously harm me. My friend talked me into listening to the ecstasy one. Once again nothing, but after it stopped and I took out the headphones, everything sound weird. Which I assume was because my eardrums were still vibrating. Eventually that stopped. There was this one sound that wasn't from iDoser but a similar thing and it was super relaxing. It made my friend and I super calm. But this would be a good way to get kids to not do drugs and alcohol, just tell them they could by listening to music. And even the news report would get gullible kids interested. "If the news says it's bad Imma try it!"
33. Ocean_EXPLOSION - July 21, 2010 12:31 AM
Where is the real GW I'm getting sick of this lame crap.
34. Pwnsauce - July 21, 2010 12:32 AM
I've done i-Dosing with a lot of success, some doses work better than others. I've heard that binaural sounds only work on about half the population, much like hypnosis only works on a certain percentage of people. I really like the dose Lucid Dream tho, helps me when i cant fall asleep. BTW I would never pay for any of it, torrents are the way to go. Especially when they try to charge you like $200 for the "Hand of God" which just made me pass out and wake up like 6 hours later completely confused.
35. Volume+ - July 21, 2010 12:35 AM
I got hooked on this stuff.... It was destroying me and my family. I was hurting people to feed my habit. I robbed and murdered, so I walked up to into a rehab and they told me "you are retarded."
36. ThaHandyman - July 21, 2010 12:49 AM
hey Reeyah, homo, how bout you come down to Oklahoma ya panzy. And all this looks like bs to me.
37. JJtoob - July 21, 2010 1:58 AM
I haven't tried this yet, but I do believe sounds can have an effect on a person's brain. I don't really want to screw around with stuff that is explicitly made to alter a person's mood. And one more thing: can everyone please stop making stupid crap like this? Quit feeding the public with reasons (legitimate or not) to take away our freedoms.
38. Ed - July 21, 2010 2:25 AM
HAHA, It's just like that game Rapelay, some one bitched on the news about how horrible it was and a million people thought "awesome" and DL'd the torrent. These stupid people are promoting idose whether they know it or not.
BTW World of Warcraft still the most addicting thing on the internet.
39. Nappy - July 21, 2010 2:36 AM
Ehhrrr is this a spoof on southpark? The're cheesing! :D
40. Stupid people should be shot. - July 21, 2010 3:01 AM
So what they are saying is that if you do the fake shit for free and it gets you high and there are no consequences, we are automatically going to go out and do REAL drugs that cost money and have life consequences?
That is like saying he who watches porn will eventually have sex/be a rapist.
tl;dr The government trying to take something else away from us that doesnt even matter/work.
41. cH3Ri - July 21, 2010 3:01 AM
So l listened and after a bit I thought.... "hmmm, maybe I am starting to feel a bit of something." Then I remembered I had taken my nightly Ambien right before logging on to Geekologie for a bit of bedtime reading....
42. Dumb Asses - July 21, 2010 3:40 AM
Wow, sometimes, I forget how stupid or willingly duped people are... Remember kids, don't do drugs, so you will be the perfect work drone and Jesus will let you into Heaven! Possibly. Or maybe he'll send you to Hell for listening to idiots too cowardly to question garbage.

44. Matt - July 21, 2010 4:57 AM
@People who are saying this is old:
It isn't about i-Doser, it's about peoples' reactions to it. It isn't old.
45. Nexus - July 21, 2010 6:12 AM
i-Dose does not work, the reactions must be psychosomatic.
46. idoserurmom - July 21, 2010 6:38 AM
i've never heard of i-dosing, but now im planning on trying it.. you know if fox news would keep a few things a secret (what it is, how it works, the effects, the fact that it's popular, where to get it, how to use it, how to hide it at school, ect...) this type of thing would probably remain a secret for longer..

69. Ickorus - July 23, 2010 7:12 AM
Hey look, the media is trying to demonize computers again, what a surprise.
70. I-dosing - July 24, 2010 1:12 AM
I-Doser is a new online service that sells musical tracks for prices between $1-$5 per track.
I understand that some people might use I-Doser as sort of a gateway.
Regardless of whether or not you will get a high from I-Dosing, there is no question that if you want, you are able to change your mood. This is due to the fact that anything can alter the way we feel. Music is one common method people use to change their mood in a natural way.
On the other hand, a loud construction site could change your mood also. I don't know if I-dosing really gives you a high, or if it simply changes your state of being. So don't go take out a payday advance to purchase I-Dosers, just turn on your radio.
71. ClaudS - July 24, 2010 1:14 AM
I am not saying how the I-Doser will or will not give you a high, but I am saying they will alter the way you feel. Some question the credibility of this method, because many things can alter how we feel from one second to the next. Take music in general, it often changes the state of one's emotions within a simple seconds. Sometimes noises in general change your mood, like whenever you hear non-stop loud sounds you are able to sometimes get annoyed. To me the I-Doser essentially gives you a chance to change your mood through sound, not necessarily get you high. So don't go take out a payday advance to buy I-Dosers, just turn on your radio.
72. Cat Casanova - July 28, 2010 12:52 AM
They were probably doing hard drugs and blamed it on that so they wouldn't get in trouble.
