I'd say yes. That's adorable. Video game related proposals (dating or wedding) are always win, but in general its about doing something that you know is meaningful to you as well as him/her. Yeah, its going to fall flat if he/she's not a gamer or detests the game of choice. Like all things, its about showing the other how well you know them.
