Jul 16 2010If God Of War Was A Wes Anderson Movie

This is a movie trailer for God of War in the style of a Wes Anderson film (Rushmore, The Royal Tenenbaums, The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou). It was really well made. And I'm not just saying that only because I love the song they used, but I did just marry it. WE'RE GONNA HAVE THE SEX!

It's pretty obvious that the original Geekologie writer is either on vacation, quit, or fired. Sigh, I'll miss him.
Good luck original GW. I hope you come back. Or at least keep in touch. And keep writing!!!

Ill donate the first dollar to this project.

@6 on the nose. I was thinking the same thing. That was like an emo band's music video.
@7 YES!

What happened to the real GW? I am not even coming back to this website if he doesnt.

Heh... cyclops...
13. Dishy - July 16, 2010 4:05 PM
@11 Snoop, maybe he's just on his honeymoon.
We should probably go easy on the new GW -- he's probably a summer intern. If he's permanent he'll eventually develop his own voice.
If original-GW is gone for good I'd like to know if he has another blog somewhere. Naas, are you listening, any ideas on this?
14. Jake - July 16, 2010 4:07 PM
@6 Yep.
To be honest, I'm not even sure what's being parodied here. No part of this has a recognizable analog. Sure, I can see the genre influence, but it has none of the specific cliches or touchstones of either Wes Anderson or God of War. Take off the makeup and tennis rackets and it doesn't seem like it could stand on it's own as anything more than an homage to hipster cinema.

Wow, a thread filled with bitchy posters trying their best at being sarcastic, witty, disinterested, etc. ... how original.

@15 DISINTERESTED ISN'T A WORD!!!!!!! it'S UNINTERESTED LEARN HOW TO USE A PREFIX PROPERLY BEFORE USING ONE!!!!!!!
phew, had to get that off my chest. But seriously people, if you're not sure what prefix goes with a word, don't use it. Next time, if you can't remember which prefix to use with interested, just say "not interested" k thx.
20. Brick City - July 16, 2010 4:44 PM
with better actors this could be all right
21. Math - July 16, 2010 5:34 PM
@19, yr comment is totally disinteresting.
22. sboot - July 16, 2010 5:36 PM
@19 What? Disinterested is absolutely a word. Go check a dictionary.
23. sidburnd1 - July 16, 2010 5:44 PM
this was perfect in parodying wes anderson films or hipster cinema in general, and i like some of his films.
24. TCG Sterling - July 16, 2010 5:53 PM
Hey @#19, you are retarded

25. Compound9 - July 16, 2010 5:58 PM
@19
Is not. It is. !!!!!! Okay and thanks.
Just as you did, I too felt the need to point out some things about your post that bug me. The only parts that would technically be wrong is your lazy as fuck way of writing "Okay" or "Ok" and "Thank You" or "Thanks".
One more point of contention the I must express with your post is your egregious overuse of the exclamation point. Stop. Just Stop. One will do, One will get your point across.
Your post contributes nothing towards the thread itself. Therefor what you wrote is of disinterest to us.
Thank you

28. ArsncLacd - July 16, 2010 7:40 PM
This is SPOT ON, I don't care what you say. I like Wes Anderson's movies (Rushmore is perhaps one of the best comedies of all time), but let's be honest, this is just too accurate for words.
29. Tiffany - July 16, 2010 8:20 PM
This was more like an obscure indie version of GOW. The music was too trendy and new. Not enough vertical shots. Nothing in slow motion. Shitty color scheme. NOT Wes Anderson-like at all.The guy just put in a couple of altered scenes from Rushmore and The Royal Tenenbaums like they were the only two movies he's seen. It would have been funny if I've never heard of Wes Anderson.
30. Justin - July 16, 2010 8:23 PM
It would be more accurate to say that this is "if God Of War was an indie dramedy".
While there are some Wes Anderson references, very few of them are specific. The two moments at the pool (everybody jumping in except the main character, and the female lead swimming on her back, in her underwear) and the "bunch of worshippers who miss the same imaginary beings" line (clearly translated from "a group of people who miss the same imaginary place") are straight out of Garden State, which is not a Wes Anderson picture. And the title card at the end is clearly an Away We Go reference which Wes Anderson also had nothing to do with.
31. largeman - July 16, 2010 8:38 PM
Definitely more Zach Braff/Garden State than anything else, just a parody using God of War's characters. Many of the shot compositions are direct spoofs, as are more than a few lines. Check out the trailer (http://trailers.apple.com/trailers/fox_searchlight/garden_state/) for comparison, if you're bored or looking for something mildly interesting to tell your friends about tonight over fondu and vino. Well done, for sure...just not that original. Nice use of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes, though!
For what it's worth, all these years later I think the Garden State teaser trailer is still my fave, ever...
32. sdcxc - July 16, 2010 9:10 PM
Who cares!!! My boyfriend thinks the same with me. He- is eight years older than me, lol. We met online at an age gap dating site [A_g_e_m_i_n_g_le @ c.//o.//m]---a nice and free place for Younger- Women and Older Men, or Older Women and Younger Men, to interact with each other. Maybe you wanna check out or- tell your friends

I'm gonna go ahead and say this is actually pretty funny and I enjoyed it? Please don't make fun of me for saying so?
36. Jibba - July 17, 2010 3:03 AM
@34
great song. was kinda shocked to hear it here.
@the rest of you, while it may not be the most accurate Anderson parody, can you honestly say that you didn't get the references? I found it entertaining and mildly funny, just as I think it was intended.
37. White Ted - July 17, 2010 12:05 PM
Kratos ain't no kracker, well maybe he would be in an Anderson film, but thats bullshit. One of the studios needs to pick up God of War and make those movies, just not fucking Disney. If only there was an actor that looked like Vin Diesle, but could act.
38. ObamaPacman.com - July 17, 2010 4:40 PM
Looks like a fun movie.
Damn the teaser with no date.
39. Bloody Bitch - July 17, 2010 6:35 PM
"WE'RE GONNA HAVE THE SEX!"
Good MST3K reference
40. Yuggles - July 17, 2010 8:27 PM
@37 I vote for Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, or Ray Liota depending on which direction it goes in.
41. NotJonGreco - July 18, 2010 11:06 AM
This is "if God Of War was Rushmore". Boo.
42. Alec - July 18, 2010 2:08 PM
Awh that was really cool! Totally Wes Anderson! haha, two of my most favourite things put together, the bloody and downright kick assness of god of war, mixed with the large panned shots and soothing dialogue of Wessy. Awesome.
43. miked603 - July 18, 2010 2:23 PM
@37 The perfect image and voice for Kratos would be Kevin Garnett.
Only problem is that no one knows if can act. He probably can't if you assume the best actors are the ones already working, since most of them can't act.
If Kevin can't do it I'll take that guy from Blood Diamond. The one who lost his family, not Leo.
44. pixx - July 19, 2010 10:47 AM
That was sooo....... um.......white.
45. dean - July 19, 2010 12:42 PM
i'd watch this simply because of how preposterous it is.
46. dewilzzle - July 19, 2010 1:22 PM
haha. def followed the wes anderson "how to make a movie" routine.
47. asiantom - July 19, 2010 1:54 PM
I wouldn't even say this is Wes Anderson. Gigantic and Napoleon Dynamite weren't Wes Anderson movies.
48. superman64232 - July 19, 2010 4:48 PM
@ 40 Really? Liota? Have you actually played the game? Besides, Ray'd just suck it up like he did in In The Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. If there is one thing we've learned from his past performances it's that when things get all fantasy and medieval, he starts acting more dramatic than a cutter. I'm never listening to anything you say.
49. Mike - July 20, 2010 1:20 PM
This was good.
50. TojoReeves - July 20, 2010 2:00 PM
Reminded me of Napoleon Dynamite more than anything.
51. kurumais - July 20, 2010 9:22 PM
i loved it great music really cute girl
52. Kris - July 21, 2010 5:03 PM
Totally Garden State-esque. Not Wes Anderson.....
53. Dudeman - July 21, 2010 6:45 PM
The end where it showed all the characters and the "Are you listening to me?" "YES I AM" are both from The Royal Tenenbaums. That's about all I saw.
54. Dudeman - July 21, 2010 6:47 PM
And the beginning when it first shows Kratos is from Rushmore.
55. Tarsey - July 21, 2010 10:15 PM
Pretentious wannabe arts fartsy movie. Neat idea but looks thin. Wish edward sharp and the mag. zeros hadn't licensed their music to be used for this crap
