Apr 25 2010Cool: Geekologie Reader's Time-Lapse Tattoo

timelapse-tattoo.jpg

NOTE: Jump video is after the jump.

This is a two-minute time-lapse video of Geekologie Reader Joshua getting a steampunkish mechanical owl tattoo on his taint arm. The whole process took six hours, so basically you're watching at 180x. It kind of reminds me of Bubo from the original 'Clash of the Titans', which is an awesome movie and I won't have you bad mouthing it. Of course I've avoided seeing the new one because I don't want my childhood desecrated. And by "don't want my childhood desecrated" I mean I'm banned from the closest theater for exposing myself during 'Avatar'. 3-D makes me crazy!

Hit it for the video.

Thanks Joshua, now how about a Geekologie tattoo? WELL SOMEBODY SHOULD DO IT. Not me.

awesome!

FIRST

damned internet connection slowed down :( awesome tattoo though

I give it a week before someone takes GW seriously and gets a Geekologie tatoo.

(Not me either)

Love it!!!

The colors don't match too well, but it still looks awesome

That would look great as a part of my skin cape im creating. MMMMmMmmmmMm skin cape..............

I just skipped to the end ^^

Would have been much better if it didn't have the colors in my opinion.

@6, 9
I feel like the colours are all awesome except for the blue which doesn't ring a lot of steampunk bells in my opinion. Hmm, steampunk bells, I think I just gave myself a tattoo idea.

Haha, awesome! Thats me! Thanks GW! Personally I love the colors, but I'll explain a little of why we did the blue, since some of it is negative space, and browns and yellows are hard to make "pop" on skin, an easy option was to throw in some blues in the background in order separate the colors from the skin. In person, the blues are a bit deeper but the main photo is pretty accurate.

Thanks again everyone and GW for posting!

I'd also like to say thanks to Monica at Alex's New Tattoo for the great work.

who gets visibly tattooed by someone without visible tattoos?

tattoo=cool
back acne=ew

@13 the artist has plenty of tattoos, just not on the left arm. haha and yes, back acne=ew. i agree. haha

neat tattoo... but the "time-laps" is not a time-laps :)

Looked better as an outline IMO.

Wow, wonder how much that tattoo put him back and #18!

looks like its from one of the bosses in the okami game. amirite? really nice tat tho

way too fk'n long for the interweb. my attention ran out before i hit the start button.

I agree (20)

Disappointing. I was expecting at the end the tattoo would spring to life and kill everyone in the room.... :(

Did anyone else think Clockwerk from Sly Cooper?

bacne ftl?

What is so special about this video? The fact that its stop-motion doesn't do anything for me. No matter how slow or fast you view it, you're still just watching a guy getting a tattoo.

I'm just wondering... why is the moustache below the beak?

Personally I think it looks awesome. how many of you guys critisicing actually have tattoos?

props to the artist aswell, I know a few tattooists who couldn't pull that off, not that thats saying much because they're crap tattooists.

This is a really cool tattoo! I love it. To all those not liking the blue, it's awesome because it's the bronze's (orange and yellow) complementary color. Makes the tattoo stand out even more.

GW: DON'T SEE THE NEW CLASH OF THE TITANS!!!!! IT WAS HORRIBLE.

ok since no one else said it i will there is nothing steam punk about this tat and yes i have one that i designed myself with some sizing help from my ex who does dimensions better than i... hey at least i admit it... now back to the point... there is nothing original about this tat but the gears set around boobo the owl from clash of the titans THE ORIGINAL yes its geeky kudos on that but steampunk and original NO....suck on a nutsack all who thought it kool and cutting edge....btw mine has black light ink!!!! love ya gdub

I fully support those who do not wish to watch that remake...

First off, who gets an owl ink'd on them without a tootsie pop anywhere in sight?! Second, how do I address that bad boy on your back? Can I call him Gus?... Can I call you? Zing!

This is not a steampunk tat, its freakin Bubo the mechanical owl from the original clash of the titans in a top hat.
Certainly not the worst tat I have ever seen but far from original.
Neat vid tho.

As 19 said, this looks exactly like the 'Clockwork Mechanical Owl' boss from Okami. God that was a great game, even though it was a Zelda ripoff.

Can't wait for the sequel on the DS!

#19 Zesty, isnt it just like lechku or nechku from OKAMI?

tattoo looks like hell! the idea was there but the tattoo sucks.

awesome tat

I too am wondering how much that set him back.

I'm loving the 50/50 split on this! Its interesting actually...

@31 - Gus would be fine.

@the non-steampunkers, it does say steampunkish...haha, I have no valid come back for that one so HA!

@The price wonderers, I got a hella deal on this. That's all I'm allowed to say or else I will have my tongue gouged out with a spoon, and we all know why it would be a spoon.

Thanks for all C&C everyone!

I usually disapprove tattoos because I'm that cool, but this is a fine one for sure. Wouldn't get tired of it.

Beautiful, plain and simply.

Dude needs to stay outta the tattoo parlor and get some sun on that pimply fishbelly pasty white skin.

now that's a nice tattoo. I'm usually against them, but this ones cool.

amazing artwork. I wonder if the blue shading faded in properly once it healed? It looks a bit choppy in this pic, but I'm sure it came together. Looks great. To those who are critiquing - you care about the "steampunkness" of it, why? Steampunk is a mutation of another genre, so what would be the issue with mutating the mutation? Unless of course, you want everyone to be different, just like you're different...
Clash of the Titans had potential, and failed horribly to meet that potential...

what an awesome tat!!! your right about jason and the argonaughts
