I just want to aknowleage how strong this earthquake was. I'm chilean and I lived first hand this massive quake, And to it be abile to shift the earth's axis just make you think of the destructive power. We are a country that are prepared for quakes but nobody could prepare for this.

I don't want to bring you down, I'm a loyal follower of Geekologie, I love this page and I always lmao with GW I even try to help with tips. I would like to ask people to spread the word. I leave you with the google page to help and get info:

So the north and south poles both moved about 3 inches. Santa and that reflecting ball at the south pole will have to move. Tho not the GPS satellites.

I assume that both poles moved. Although it'd be interesting if just the north pole moved. Maybe we can move both poles to Hawaii, or even all 4 poles. (5 if you count the SSE pole, which I don't.)

I searched, and some places say 1.26 MILLI-seconds, some say 1.26 MICRO-seconds.

That's a big diff btw.

And anyways, the moon slows down the earth's day by 22 microseconds each year.

That big-arse Three Gorges Dam they built in China held back so much water that it actually threw the Earth off and caused it to wobble/slowdown. So if this event sped it up, we should be right back where we started.

If its 1.26 seconds and we only have 86.4 million seconds in a day...

We only have 68,571,428.57 days til we speed up a whole day!

Which is (Rounded up) 187,867 Years!
Maybe itll be a leap year outside of the normal 4?

Now I'm pretty sure I didn't do the math right (or even have decent thought process) because
A) Math + Work never mix
B) I'm still half asleep
C) I suck at math :)

@30 It slowed by 1.26 MILLIseconds, not 1.26 seconds.
There are 1,000 milliseconds in each second..... so in the span of about 3 years, we'd notice about ONE extra second.... just sayin

dude i'm chilean... the earth shook like there was no tomorow, i truly thought that that was it. Plus electric post cables touching each other and spiking all around, it was like a fucking war zone. And the sound... dude the sound... it was like a friggin' volcano was coming up from down the earth.
Pretty amazing experience if you ask, i guess that if 2012 mambo-jumbo turns out to be real, i would not be as scare as other people around the world. or at least much more prepared.
And it's a bitch that after a week from the quake, we still have little(5.0+ richter!!) quakes multiple times each day.
So if you wanna have your world rocked-out, come to Chile! Just kidding, stay away some time for god's sake!
