Mar 4 2010I'm Suing, My Neck Hurts: Roller Coaster Hits 60 MPH In 1.8 Seconds, 120 MPH In 2.8 Secs

Apparently the Top Thrill Dragster roller coaster has existed at CedarPoint amusement park (Sandusky, OH) since 2003, and you all know what that means: it's just about time for me to get around to posting it! Anyway, this is a point-of-view video showing the acceleration (NSFW link) to 120 MPH in just under three seconds. WHEE! And by 'WHEE!' I mean 'BLAAAAH!' and sorry to everyone sitting behind me. You know I can't resist amusement park hotdogs!

Thanks to Blaqk Panda, who really did get sick on a roller coaster once and ruined a family's Disney vacation.

-R.T. I think i figured out the problem.
This order's going to Columbus.
That's a one day delivery, but you've got it marked down for two.

-That's because it's going to Columbus, Georgia, not Columbus, Ohio.
You see these letters by the city? That's called a state.
What else you got, Wonder Boy?

-That's pretty much it for now.

-Tommy, maybe you should go back to college for another seven years and study a globe.

Roller coasters are awesome.

Top Thrill Dragster is freaking awesome. I love roller coasters and I will make the pilgrimage to Cedar Point someday. Love the Power Tower in the background, that's an amazing ride too.

been on it a bunch of times.... it is incredible

I've ridden on it 4-5 times and the video doesn't do it justice. Your face gets pulled back and yo may get a bug or two in the face. It also includes a seriously quick slow down.

The scariest part is that if there isn't enough weight, it sometimes doesn't make it over the top and comes back down backwards. If it does, they let people get off if they want and send it back up again. I've seen it happen but never experienced it myself.

yea.... kingda ka is 456 ft tall with a 420 ft drop and goes from 0 to 128 mph in 3.5 seconds. and it has a second hill that's 130 ft tall. and i know all that off the top of my head.

DO WANT!!!DO WANT!!!DO WANT!!!DO WANT!!!

the most thrilling and fastest 20 seconds (total) of your life.
Unless you count sleeping with GW which is like 16.5 seconds and really not thrilling ( read: unsatisfying) just fast.

Best roller coaster I've ever been on.

hell..yes.

@8,

ROTF... Speaking from experience? =p

This is the only ride that ever made me scream involuntarily, and by scream I mean roar like a f*#@ing berserker.

@12 Metal face. Pretty girl think sexy.

Yeah, fuck that.

Oh yeah, Cedar Point! Way to show Ohio love, GW! Anyone not from around here should really visit it, the Dragster isn't even the best ride there. The Raptor is. And the Millennium Force. Actually they are all great. Everyone who loves roller coasters should visit Cedar Point at least once in their lives. Best theme park, and it doesn't have stupid disney characters!

@#6 I was going to say the same; Kingda Ka is nuts, and in my home state

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingda_Ka

The only problem with the ride is that it's closed about half the time due to high winds. BWAK bwak bwak bwak bwakkok! Sissies.

yeah that 2 hour wait in line would be sooo worth it.

goes so fast, you can barely breathe, it kinda catches your breath and holds it until the acceleration stops

tied with millenium force for best ride

@11 Yea but i got my money back so its all good.

@15

I also grew up 15 minutes from Cedar Point, and I kinda take it for granted. But you're definitely right that Top Thrill is not the best ride there. Millennium, Raptor, even the tried-and-true Magnum are better in my opinion. Those rides have class. Top Thrill while fun is just raw speed and height, no finesse.

Everybody go to Cedar Point!

This roller coaster is old and busted...Kingda Ka is 45 stories tall and 128 mph and the current record holder for the tallest/fastest coaster on Earth.

OMG, I will never go on that ever again!!!! I really like roller coasters, too!

That was the scariest sh*t of my life. When you're going down, you're STRAIGHT down and the poles feel like they're going to rip your head off.

Makes me sweat just thinking about it....ughhh....

@21, I agree...Millennium was a great ride!!!

@1,
Tommy: Hey, what's your name?
Helen: Helen.
Tommy: That's nice, you look like a Helen. Helen, we're both in sales. Let me tell you why I suck as a sales man. Let's say I go into a guy's office, let's say he's even remotely interested in buying something. Well then I get all excited. I'm like Jojo the idiot circus boy with a pretty new pet.
Tommy: Now the pet is my possible sale. Hello there pretty little pet, I love you. And then I stoke it, and I pet it, and I massage it. Hehe I love it, I love my little naughty pet.
Tommy: You're naughty! And then I take my naughty pet and I go...
Tommy: Uuuuuuh! I killed it! I killed my sale! And that's when I blow it. That's when people like us have gotta forge ahead, Helen. Am I right?
Helen: God, you're sick.

This is a great coaster. It's not worth it if the line is super long, though, as the ride is over in like 10 seconds. It breaks down all the time though, so you can usually jump on when it's short! (They fixed the issue with the breaks though, don't worry. :P )

It's really fun to watch them run it in the morning when they're still adjusting for weather conditions, as sometimes the cars don't make it over the top and they fall back down the launch side and have to be re-launched until they get it right.

It also got stuck one time, and a guy had to climb all the way up by hand to push it off, but then the wind blew them over finally right before the maintenance guy made it all the way up! It's gotten stuck at the top 3-4 times. I saw it sit there for about ten seconds once in person, buit the wind nudged it over.

It's hilarious, if people put their arms up for the launch, they delay it and play a recorded message that goes, "Arms down! Arms down! Arms down!"

But then as soon as it launches, everyone puts their arms up anyway because it takes your picture right after launch.

Dodonpa accelerates even faster (0 to 107mph in 1.8s) and I can tell you, there is no way you can get ready for this by watching videos. It's insane.

What are the specs of this vs king-da-ka? I ve been on that. Fun as shit nipples (thats good). I asked the operator if it ever got stuck at teh top and he said the record was 14 seconds :P

i go every year live in detroit and that roller coaster is so quick i remember going on it the first day when they opened it the chain kept snapping good times they build a new roller coaster every 2-3 years

I live pretty close to Cedar Point too, the dragster is fun but the Millennium is definitely my favorite. (Had you really never heard of it before?) The line is always a lot shorter than they say it's going to be.

Actually, it hits 120MPH in 4.8 seconds. I can't wait to get lucky number 13 this year. Also, there are 2 coasters faster then this. Kingda Ka which reaches 128MPH. And some F1 ride that reaches 135MPH.

HA. First time i rode that my chest actually did indeed hurt a little, but i continue to ride it every summer

That looked nightmarish. I've only been on one rollercoaster - the Superman Ride at Movie World in Brisbane - and i almost pissed my pants.

The ride is crazy...but it is a POS and breaks pretty much daily, and if it rains it is shut down because aparently the raindrops kill you or something--and the best ride at Cedar Point is Magnum, which is, of course, named after Derek Zoolander.

GW, post a vid of the Millenium Force! It's like... the Millenium Falcon, WITH THE FORCE. Plus we'll get to watch a ride that's more than 20 f*cking seconds long.

I've rode this like 3 times, and it is epic.

The experience is 20x more awesome than this lame video.

Great ride, as stated video doesn't do it justice. The maverick was definitely the best ride there though, followed by the millenium force of courseee

This is an amazing ride. The wait from when you're rolled up to the starting lights to when the ride starts is half the thrill. Such anticipation. I love Cedar Point and try to go every summer. I must say though, Millennium Force is much better, if not the best coaster. The new one Maverick is also really good. I highly recommend every coaster fan to visit it!

YEAH CEDAR POINT, YEAH STEEL DRAGON!!!! Wait oh the dragster...what about it, came in a couple of years ago...When I rode it the first time I was high and I literally shit myself a bit, the girl next to me gave me a funny look I don't know if it was because my creepy pedo stache I had going on or the smell. Either way, the mantis woops this rides ass and steel dragon fucks it up because it has 30 minute lines, seriously you ride it jump off walk back in the line and you can jump on, one time the guy let us ride twice in a row at night because no one was in the line....I'm rambling.

As other posters said, The King da ka is faster and taller!! I call this "fastest" "tallest" coaster a LIE!

Glad to see some Cedar Point love on here! I worked there for two summers in college (on Mantis, mostly), and rode this thing a bunch of times.

The awesomeness-to-wait time ratio is much higher for Millenium, though.

Top Thrill Dragster is still better than Kingda Ka because you don't have the stupid shoulder restraints, just a lap bar.

It does look like Kingda Ka. But I'm paranoid. I prefer the shoulder restraints to just a lap bar :/

Kingda Ka is the best rollercoaster hands down.
