Mar 24 2010Eye Candy: Nintendo 3DS Gameplay Video
Note: Skip to around 0:50 for the start of the good stuff.
This is a little video mockup of what 3-D gameplay will look like on the Nintendo 3DS. It seems pretty awesome. And by awesome I mean I just want to crawl into the screen and escape from this cruel, cruel world. Kind of like Pan's Labyrinth, except with a big f*** no, absolutely not to ol' eyeball hands.
Thanks to venort, who only plays portable mind games.

Interesting tech - Same old boring games.
*chough*frist*chough*
2. catch22 - March 24, 2010 3:39 PM
neat but gimicky and will be used in no less than 50 pets and brain age games but only once in a zelda and metroid and nothing by 3rd party developers
3. Russell - March 24, 2010 3:42 PM
this is just a game for the DSi, played on a DSi XL, the 3DS gameplay could be more advanced for all we know

I agree with Mr. A. It's a very simple and intuitive solution to make games 3D, but Nintendo will squander it like they do everything else.

I see this being another "Virtual Boy"! Big Flop!
8. J-SIZZLE - March 24, 2010 3:54 PM
I was thinking more like depth perception 3D, not like........ stupid 3D
It sucks! Nothing pops out at you, and things dont actually look closer and further, it just has an accelerometer that lets you pan around a bit. Especially when they say "doesn't require glasses" you kind of expect the same as what you get WITH glasses.
9. Bnjjmnbr - March 24, 2010 3:57 PM
this is just a dsi ware game, not really anything to do with the 3ds..
10. Robot-Destroyer - March 24, 2010 3:59 PM
ya j sizzle has a point. its not like 3d. its more of making the game look like its inside a box. whish albeit is kinda of cool in my opinion. but its not the 3d a mario game would look beautiful with :(
11. Mark4Nier - March 24, 2010 4:04 PM
It's just an accelerometer, nothing new here.

Just as SpecterM91 Said, This is footage of a DSiWare game...Not 3DS.
20. Cup-O-Jesus - March 24, 2010 4:58 PM
yup DSi you wont be able to see the 3d of a actual 3d screen in a video anyways
21. Mario - March 24, 2010 5:04 PM
I think it's lenticular technology (doesn't use accelerometer) like those 3D movie posters.
22. Dinosaur Rex - March 24, 2010 5:17 PM
That's not 3DS, it is a DSiWare game you uninformed geeks.
23. cliff_greene - March 24, 2010 5:38 PM
geez
it's not the hard to realize that this is just a game utilizing the dsi camera. Not a *new* ds system.
24. No - March 24, 2010 5:52 PM
NOT 3DS DUMMIES
25. JFreezy - March 24, 2010 6:16 PM
The one thing I hate about GameBoy/DS is it feels like Nintendo releases one every freaking year!! I was about do trade up my DSi for the DSi XL, but then they announced the 3DS! Geez!!
26. Russell - March 24, 2010 6:20 PM
this isn't an accelerometer, it uses the camera to track your eyes and determine what direction you're looking at it from. there was a post in another blog about this game a month or so ago
27. Nwgn - March 24, 2010 8:31 PM
Fail. I posted a better video yesterday in the other 3DS thread, questioning the actual gain of the 3DS over today's tech. As others mentioned, this is the DSi title "Rittai Kakushi e Attakoreda" using head tracking, released 3 March in Japan. The video I posted was: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h5QSclrIdlE (hoping HTML works here).
This is just a shitty Spanish (?) report by made by shitty excuses for journalists. Probably the ones behind GROG XD too.

Sorry for double-posting, but—

While this is head tracking and not 3DS, it's fully possible to make things pop out at you. Here's an OLD DIY example with the exact same technology for Wii: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jd3-eiid-Uw
Just because this game is created without objects in front of the screen, doesn't mean it's not a possibility.

FAKE!!!!
This is a complete photoshop job. You can tell its a fake because the shadow's are all wrong.
This is exactly like that scene in the movie Never Back Down where Max built a rocket in his barn and then the govt tried to prevent him from getting propellant to fuel it.

Ok, GW. I know you've been "away" for awhile and maybe you've forgotten. But we speak ENGLISH in THIS country. My Bushmaster M4 can prove it.

Heads up -- this isn't a mock-up, but it isn't the real deal either. This is a DSiWare game that already exists in Japan called 3D Hidden Picture. More info here; http://thebbps.com/articles/content/nintendo-announces-virtual-boy-2.html

@ #28, here's a link to the Geekologie post regarding Johnny Lee's head tracking from Jan 2008.

Looks like Mario is playing with himself while holding the thing.
34. KSquared - March 30, 2010 7:55 AM
When they announced it, I thought they were talking about stereo effect. But simulating 3D with perspective change is actually a very simple solution. I'm surprised it hasn't been done before on a portable system.

I envision 3-DSWare to front the autostereoscopic double-power ROM of the 3DS (pre-lim name). Read Wikipedia for general reference on the 3DS. NINTENDO makes the games wrong on purpose to keep TEMPTING us. (I was born in the same OHIO county as Actress SARAH JESSICA-PARKER, 3 years after she was) Out.
