Mystery solved. You can't have more than two links TOTAL in your comment (including the 'Your site's URL' line). The 'Bad words' rejection is just the standard 'You did something wrong'. It doesn't necessarily have anything to do with bad words.
It does explain why my individual comments went through, but the whole comment did not.
Sorry for messing up your comments section, GW. I am not good with computers.
