Feb 3 2010They're So Talented: Little Birds Playing Guitar

This is a video of little birds playing guitar as part of some wack-ass French (of course) art exhibit.

For his installation in The Curve, Boursier-Mougenot creates a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other musical instruments. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape.

Hmm, I dunno. Is a bunch of little birds playing guitar really art? Did I serve as the model for Michalangelo's David? That was supposed to be rhetorical. But since I've piqued your interest, yes, I did. Except for the wang (I had mine thrown over my shoulder).

I don't think I want to hear that thing when the strings have become encrusted with bird poop.

Birds!!! Zebra finches are awesome.

I loved the one trying to build the nest in the guitar. Efficient use of the instrument!

Long live the robtos.

COOL!!!

From now i'll play using a branch!!!

I think they were attempting to play Smoke on the Water.

woulda been cooler if it was a dj set. wouldn't mind hearing finches scrickle-scratchin' that sh*t up.

Sounds like a Nirvana solo

i have hummingbirds lick the inside of my penis hole. hence my name.

pretty cute birds

cuuuuuuuuuuuuuute!! wanted to squeeze them!!

Fucking dumb. That bird had the right I idea, just not enough branches; to fucking stifle this awful noise!

Great, now my job's being stolen by a bunch of fucking birds.

I used to have zebra finches like that, non of them could play the guitar, but they loved Dream Theater and Metallica ...and Justice for All.

When I was a kid we had a friend that had a finch that looked just like these. When he and his family went on vacation we took his bird to our house and told him that we would take care of the bird while they were gone. One day we went to the store and when we came back our cat had knocked over the cage, the bird got out and yes, the cat ate the bird. I'm sure it was a real treat for my mom to explain to his family!

Ah, childhood memories...

When I played this video my finches went insane

My mom had finches when I was younger. One day she had the brilliant idea to clean the bottom of the cage with the vacuum tube. The birds flew around like crazy until one of them got sucked in. (Well it kinda stuck halfway, then got sucked fully in after it did a bird scream) My mom shrieked and ripped open the vacuum bag getting dirt everywhere. Needless to say the bird died...
It was sad and funny at the same time. Poor bird...

I don't know art and I don't know birds, but I know what I like. That wasn't it. Actually in the context of an art installation I suppose it had some merit. I kept waiting for it to turn into something witty like a compilation of the birds playing different notes arranged to perform "Stairway to Heaven".

In short: It was cute for about 10 seconds. Then it became French.

@21 "sad & funny at the same time"... kinda like when a clown dies?

if you think that is amazing, you should see what i can do with MY bird!.... just sayin

hrm...if those finches can jam on the guitar....I wonder if mine would get jammin' on the piano. oh hohoho I'll have them play "Hall of the Mountain King" >:D

This reminds me of a movie about killer pigeons

reminds me of Dead Man with Johnny Depp (great movie): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z0TlPh2jlGk

Interesting thing!

go finches. now throw in a keyboard in there and peter murphy.

Those birds should form a Drone metal band, could be very lucrative.

Wow, that bird with the twig really knows how to wail!

like most art, it's already been done.... The Peckers by Ron Tran, 2004... he did it with pigeons and had drums and a keyboard too...

Awe they are cute............I want me some geetaaar playin chickapees.

I had two canaries when I was younger. When one died for no reason the other refused to eat and died as well, fun story!

The birds play better than the average girl band...........

It's not really birds playing the guitar as much as it is birds plucking strings. They are cute though.

This is just a Sun 0))) performance sans robes.
