Feb 3 2010They're So Talented: Little Birds Playing Guitar
This is a video of little birds playing guitar as part of some wack-ass French (of course) art exhibit.
For his installation in The Curve, Boursier-Mougenot creates a walk-though aviary for a flock of zebra finches, furnished with electric guitars and other musical instruments. As the birds go about their routine activities, perching on or feeding from the various pieces of equipment, they create a captivating, live soundscape.
Hmm, I dunno. Is a bunch of little birds playing guitar really art? Did I serve as the model for Michalangelo's David? That was supposed to be rhetorical. But since I've piqued your interest, yes, I did. Except for the wang (I had mine thrown over my shoulder).

I used to have zebra finches like that, non of them could play the guitar, but they loved Dream Theater and Metallica ...and Justice for All.

When I was a kid we had a friend that had a finch that looked just like these. When he and his family went on vacation we took his bird to our house and told him that we would take care of the bird while they were gone. One day we went to the store and when we came back our cat had knocked over the cage, the bird got out and yes, the cat ate the bird. I'm sure it was a real treat for my mom to explain to his family!
Ah, childhood memories...

My mom had finches when I was younger. One day she had the brilliant idea to clean the bottom of the cage with the vacuum tube. The birds flew around like crazy until one of them got sucked in. (Well it kinda stuck halfway, then got sucked fully in after it did a bird scream) My mom shrieked and ripped open the vacuum bag getting dirt everywhere. Needless to say the bird died...
It was sad and funny at the same time. Poor bird...

I don't know art and I don't know birds, but I know what I like. That wasn't it. Actually in the context of an art installation I suppose it had some merit. I kept waiting for it to turn into something witty like a compilation of the birds playing different notes arranged to perform "Stairway to Heaven".
In short: It was cute for about 10 seconds. Then it became French.

It's not really birds playing the guitar as much as it is birds plucking strings. They are cute though.
